Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 427: Nothing Happened

We ended up having lunch at a restaurant that had recently opened in the Marquisate of Mulan. A nostalgic scent wafted from the establishment.

“This smell is…”

“The aroma of the spices is intense, right? Apparently, they mix all sorts of spices together to make it.”

It was curry. This was unmistakably the smell of curry. I wondered if Mira, who had a sensitive nose, would dislike it, but she was quietly savoring the scent with her eyes closed. Seems like Mira is more of a foodie than I thought.

It seemed someone had already made a reservation, because we were guided smoothly to our seats upon entering the restaurant.

We were dressed to be inconspicuous, but it didn’t seem to be very effective. Still, it was nice not to have to wait in line outside. Looking at the menu, I saw that they had not only curry, but also rice bowl dishes. Unfortunately, there was no sushi. Maybe it just didn’t catch on here.

“The recommended dish is this curry. I’ve had it before, and it’s really delicious.”

“Then I guess I’ll have that.”

“I’ll have the same.”

“Me too, me too.”

“Kyuu!”

“I’ll share mine with Mira, okay~”

“Kyuu!”

And so, all of us ended up ordering curry. The most important thing to watch out for when eating curry is getting your clothes dirty. I made sure to tie a bib around Fabienne.

Axel laughed at my overprotectiveness, but I said, “You’ll regret it if you don’t put one on,” and made everyone wear one. Including Mira, of course.

“You look good in it, Mira-chan.”

“Kyuu…”

The forcibly attached bib covered Mira from her head down to half her body. She didn’t seem to like it, looking a bit grumpy. Fabienne was trying to soothe her, so I hoped to finish eating while she was distracted.

The curry was brought out. Yep, no matter how you look at it, it was a standard curry. I wonder if someone brought the recipe over? My heart danced at the sight of curry after so long.

“This is… a bit spicy.”

“Yes, it is. But it’s delicious. It has a rather complex flavor, doesn’t it?”

“It must be because of the spices. Apparently, the recipe is a closely guarded secret.”

“Yeah, I can believe that. It tastes amazing.”

I fed Mira carefully to make sure nothing got into her fur. Judging by the way she placed both hands on her cheeks and made a happy face, she seemed to like it. Her mood had completely improved before I knew it. Curry really is powerful stuff.

As expected, everyone ended up with curry on their bibs. Even if people gave us weird looks, I was glad I made them wear them. Even if we have spares, it’s important to take good care of our belongings. After lunch, it was time for dessert. We headed to a place that had cream puffs.

“Hmm, I wish we could’ve let Isidore try this too.”

“Let’s buy some to take back for him.”

“Yeah, let’s do that.”

Fabienne had cream on her cheek while happily eating. I couldn’t just leave it there, so I wiped it off with my finger and licked it. Fabienne’s face turned bright red. Feels like we’re in the middle of youth, huh?

Meanwhile, Mira had gotten cream all over her mouth. Ah, what a mess. It must’ve been that good—she devoured it. The custard cream really was divine.

I wiped around Mira’s mouth and ordered some cream puffs to go.

Since cream puffs are perishable, they don’t last long. We had already visited the place I wanted to take her on our date, so for today, we decided to head back to the mansion. The capital is vast. Soon enough, we’ll head to another date spot.

When we returned to the mansion, something felt different. How should I put it—everyone seemed brighter, or maybe relieved. Even the servants looked that way.

As I reported that we brought back souvenirs and had tea prepared in the salon, Isidore came in immediately.

“Julius, did you hear?”

“Did something happen?”

“A messenger came from the Eastern Frontier. They said that a vicious monster lurking in the Eastern Demon Lands has been defeated. They think the forest will be safe now.”

“Really? Is that true?”

Carol let out a joyful cry. She held both hands to her mouth, her eyes glistening. That’s how worried she must have been. Axel gently wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Ugh, handsome. But still, there’s something that must be confirmed.

“Isidore, you didn’t say anything unnecessary, did you?”

“Unnecessary? Ah!”

Maybe he remembered something—Isidore clapped both hands over his mouth. That reaction, though, is exactly what makes things worse. See? Fabienne is narrowing her eyes at me. How do I get out of this? Nero’s face has gone completely blank. Learn from Nero, Isidore.

“…Julius-sama, what was that reaction from Isidore just now? Don’t tell me something happened that I don’t know about?”

“No, nothing at all?”

“That’s a lie.”

“Yeah, that’s a lie.”

Carol and Axel jumped into the conversation. Their eyes curved like crescents, suspiciously staring at me. Carol immediately called a servant and asked what kind of report had come. But apparently, it was a rushed report, and all they said was that the monster believed to be the cause of the rampage had been defeated.

“I brought a souvenir for Isidore. Cream puffs.”

“Yay! Thank you!”

Isidore sat down with a monotone cheer. I took Mira and sat down too. A servant quickly came to pour tea. Tea is nice, but I feel like having coffee for a change. It doesn’t seem to exist in this world yet, though.

“You covered it up.”

“You totally covered it up.”

“You definitely covered something up.”

Leaving the still-suspicious trio aside, I started eating the cream puffs I bought. Mmm, delicious. I just ate not long ago, but I could still go for more.

“What is this? It’s ridiculously good!”

“Isidore, only one per person, okay? Don’t eat other people’s shares.”

Maybe giving up, Axel took a seat. Prompted by that, Fabienne and Carol also sat down.

Good. Looks like I’ve managed to sweep it all under the rug quite nicely.
