Chapter 419: A Little Happening

If I hurry now, I can plant the seedlings I gathered from the forest before dinner. I could just do it quickly by myself, but Fabienne might want to join me. I rushed back to my room.

“Fabienne, are you back?”

“Huh?”

“Kyu?”

“Kyah!”

Fabienne nearly let out a scream but quickly covered her mouth. If she screamed here, others would come running. She must have realized that would be a problem. I quickly left the room with Nero. Why was she in her underwear?

“What do you think happened?”

“She was probably changing into a dress.”

“Sharing a room comes with issues like this, huh? I should’ve knocked… That was my fault.”

Click.

Fabienne peeked out, now wearing a bathrobe. Somehow, that felt just as provocative. I found myself staring at her face.

“Um…”

“S-Sorry, Fabienne! I didn’t mean for that to happen.”

“I understand. You seemed to be in a hurry, didn’t you?”

“Oh, right. I was planning to plant the seedlings in the herb garden and thought you might want to join me.”

“Oh, I see. In that case, you should have waited for me to change.”

Fabienne’s brows lowered in disappointment. It didn’t seem like she’d be able to change quickly now. I felt bad for her, but I decided to teach her about it another time. After telling Fabienne, I headed to the garden. There weren’t any magic tool lamps, but I could use magic instead.

When I arrived at the herb garden, I found the seedlings already placed there. Lionel and the others must have set them out. However, it seemed they hadn’t expected anyone to work at this hour—there wasn’t a single person around.

“Alright, let’s get started.”

“I will help.”

I planted the seedlings together with Nero. Thanks to my Cultivation skill, the process was quick. Since I hadn’t gathered that many in the forest, it didn’t take long to finish. I also applied some plant nutrients and watered them using magic.

“That should do it. By tomorrow, they should have grown decently.”

“Are you sure? We won’t surprise everyone tomorrow, will we?”

“I diluted the plant nutrients a lot, so it should be fine… probably.”

Nero frowned at my uncertain answer. This was my first time using them, so I had no idea how it would turn out. Whatever happens, happens. Only time will tell.

After finishing up, I hurried back to my room. We needed to change, too. This time, I made sure to knock.

“Welcome back. You’re already done?”

“I’m back, Fabienne. There weren’t that many to plant. I also applied some plant nutrients.”

“Then tomorrow should be exciting.”

Fabienne smiled happily. That made me happy, too.

But even though she knew about the ‘A Tree Grew Instantly Incident’, she had never actually witnessed something like that before. I really hoped there wouldn’t be any problems.

After that, I spent the time before dinner making swimsuits for everyone. Fabienne’s expression while I worked on Carol’s swimsuit was memorable. I wasn’t doing anything inappropriate, but…

At dinner, Marquis Mulan apologized again for what had happened in the forest. I was the one who wanted to go, so I told him I was partly responsible, but he insisted otherwise.

I felt like I was making him worry too much. That meant I had to repay him properly by doing my job well—whether it was making potions, crafting magic tools, or training my apprentices. There was plenty I could do.

That night, Fabienne slipped into my bed, holding Mira in her arms. She must have been feeling weak after the monster attack earlier in the day. I had tried to defeat the monsters quickly and from a distance to avoid traumatizing her, but it seemed she was still shaken.

When I patted her, she clung tightly to me. Between us, Mira looked delighted. If Mira weren’t here…I decided to stop thinking about it before I lost any sleep.

The next morning, after breakfast, I headed to the herb garden. Gile, Christopher, Axel, and Isidore went to the training grounds instead. After what happened yesterday, they probably felt they needed to get stronger.

What they lacked was real combat experience. I wanted them to fight different people and fill that gap

The information about the Big Ape would be shared with the eastern margrave. Hopefully, that would be a clue to solving the forest’s abnormality.

Carol was coming to the herb garden with us. On the way, I told her that I had already planted the seedlings yesterday.

“I didn’t think you’d plant them after all that.”

“If we left them as they were, they’d just lose their freshness. It would be a waste after gathering them, and I’d feel bad for everyone.”

“That’s true, but… What is that…?”

Caro suddenly stopped walking. We followed her gaze—and stopped, too.

Only Mira happily ran toward it, giggling.

A massive mound of something had grown there. From the leaves, it looked like medicinal herbs, detoxifying grass, and mana plants. Ahaha…

“Well, it looks like they grew very well.”

“Julius-sama, you can’t just brush this off like that.”

Fabienne placed a hand on her cheek, narrowing her eyes. She was smiling, but her eyebrows were deeply furrowed. That was a very troubled expression. I was troubled, too. I needed to erase the evidence quickly.

“Julius…”

“Alright, let’s hurry up and harvest! Now we can make lots of potions!”

“Carol, what could have caused this?”

“Ah, um… He also applied plant nutrients.”

“And that resulted in this…?”

Ignoring their conversation behind me, Nero and I quickly harvested the plants. I must not have diluted the nutrients enough. Ugh. Being a skilled potion maker sure is tough.
