Chapter 373: Intelligence Weapon

I thought this topic might be troublesome, so I glanced at my father’s expression. The gaze that had been directed at me was now focused on my father. His eyes turned toward me with resentment, but it seemed like he had resigned himself. He let out a deep sigh.

“From now on, don’t let anyone outside hear about this.”

Father was about to tell everyone about the previous conversation. It seemed that neither Mother nor Alex-niisan knew about the head of the family’s diary, and naturally, they were dissatisfied.

“Max, why didn’t you tell us about something so important until now?”

“Well, you see… this diary has been passed down through generations of the family heads. There are things written in it that cannot be shown to others.”

“In that case, I have the right to read it, don’t I?”

Mother, who pouted in dissatisfaction, didn’t look like the mother of four children at all. She appeared to be a woman full of energy, like someone in their twenties.

On the other hand, Alex-niisan’s eyes were shining. He seemed quite interested.

Indeed, the diary written by the lord for generations would likely contain methods for governing the territory. Depending on the contents, there could be useful information for running the merchant association as well. To Alex-niisan, it must seem like a treasure trove.

“Well, I suppose so. When Alex becomes the head of the family, I’ll hand it all over then.”

“Can’t I see it now?”

“No. That’s a rule in the Heine Frontier Count family. It means that the contents are filled with confidential matters.”

Is that really true? It seems suspicious. Could it be that Father doesn’t want Mother to see it? If I put it that way, even Mother, as a lady, would likely not ask to see it. After all, Mother is the very model of a lady.

“…So, is it really an Intelligence Weapon?”

Mother asked, looking at the sword hanging from Lionel’s waist. It seemed that she had temporarily given up on the family head’s diary. Father’s relieved expression was quite striking.

I wonder what is written in the family head’s diary. Now I’m a little curious.

“Mother, do you know about the Intelligence Weapon?”

Rosalia’s face lit up as she asked Mother. It seemed like she was very interested in the glowing sword. Since Rosalia reads various books, she must have come across adventure tales as well.

“Well, I did read a story once about an Intelligence Weapon.”

“What kind of story was it?”

“Well, long ago, a Demon King appeared in this world, and a hero defeated that Demon King. The sword that the hero had at that time was an Intelligence Weapon.”

Though it was a story from a book, I didn’t really want to hear it. Many of the old stories in this world are not entirely fictional; quite a few are based on actual events. Tales like that of the Holy Dragon and the Spirits are examples.

If that’s the case, the story of a Demon King appearing and being defeated by a hero might have actually happened.

And if such a thing as an Intelligence Weapon truly existed, the chances of that possibility would rise significantly.

“Mother, what is an Intelligence Weapon?”

“Oh, starting from there, huh?”

Mother stumbled. This was quite rare. Father looked surprised as well, so it must be an exceptionally rare sight. After gathering herself, Mother quickly skipped over various explanations and said, “It’s a talking sword.”

“In that case, I can talk to that sword, right? I want to try it!”

Rosalia looked at Lionel’s sword with eyes full of anticipation. But I’m not sure it’ll work, though. Lionel tried to offer the sword to me, but I stopped him.

“Talking to the sword is impossible. I told Father about it earlier, and the sword glowing at that time was just a coincidence. The sword, which couldn’t even cut through reinforced glass, was just being stubborn.”

Mother and Alex-niisan nodded in understanding. However, Rosalia didn’t seem convinced. She kept glancing at the sword. Maybe she thought she could make a new friend. I’m not really sure.

Dinner was over, and the only things left were the bath and going to bed. I was planning to take a bath with Fabienne today, as usual. It seemed like Mira was sticking to Fabienne like a clingy little bug, perhaps planning to join us in the bath too.

“We need to trim Mira’s fur. Tomorrow, while testing reinforced glass with the knights, we’ll also give her a fur trim.”

“Kyuu!”

Mira, startled by the mention of trimming, hid behind Fabienne. Fabienne gently pulled Mira into her arms. The scene looked just like a saintly figure. It was so picturesque. If only there was a camera here, I’d want to capture it. …Should I make one?

“Mira-chan, it’s going to get hotter and hotter from now on. If that happens, Mira-chan will have a hard time, won’t she? Julius-sama just wants to make Mira-chan a little cooler.”

“Kyuu.”

Mira, persuaded by Fabienne, looked at me with her big round eyes. I nodded reassuringly, as if to say that it was okay. I wasn’t even thinking for a second about using the Holy Dragon’s fur as material for a new magical potion.

It seemed like Mira had come to an understanding. She no longer hid behind Fabienne.

Today, I’d need to make sure to wash her thoroughly in the bath. If her fur is silky smooth, it’ll be much easier to trim tomorrow.

“Julius-sama, will the Intelligence Weapon really talk?”

“I wonder? For that, you really need to own the sword to know. But I don’t plan on owning one.”

“Why not?”

Fabienne asked, clearly wondering. She tilted her head slightly. Normally, one might want to own such a sword if they had the chance. But I’m not normal.

“If I owned something like that, I’d really be made into a Sword Saint next time.”

Fabienne blinked in surprise for a moment, then started giggling. I joined in the laughter. Mira, too, seemed to have fun, flying around joyfully.
