Chapter 372: Isn’t it sharp?

While my father was still lost in thought, unable to come up with an answer, we were informed that “dinner is ready.” Since there was nothing we could do, I urged my father to head to the dining room. It seems that Lionel would be joining us for dinner today as well.

When we entered the dining room, everyone was already waiting. We were apparently the last ones to arrive. As usual, my father sat down with a grim expression on his face.

“Max, what happened? Did Julius do something again?”

My mother looked at me with a concerned expression. While we had arrived together with my father, I couldn’t help but feel a little offended that she immediately assumed I had done something wrong again. There was even a possibility that my father had asked me to deal with some troublesome matter.

“Well, that’s true. But more importantly, let’s eat. The head chef has worked hard on the meal. Let’s not let it get cold.”

Following my father’s words, everyone began eating. Fabienne, looking worried, glanced at me, so I quietly explained what had happened. Since my father hadn’t specifically told me to keep it a secret, I figured it was fine. Nero had been there as well.

“Intelligent weapons? That’s the first time I’ve heard of it. Can they talk or interact with people?”

“Who knows? If it were possible, I think it would have been written in the diary I mentioned before.”

“That’s true. So, can Julius make such things?”

I wasn’t sure. In the game, it was possible to create sentient golems or homunculi. With the right materials, there was a good chance it could be done. But creating life itself could lead to serious problems in this world.

“…You can make them, then?”

“No, I can’t. I just thought it would be interesting if I could. That’s all.”

I laughed, trying to defuse the situation. Fabienne, isn’t she sharp? The more time I spent with her, the better she seemed to understand me. Even now, she was looking at me with a somewhat doubtful gaze.

I needed to change the subject, or this could become troublesome. If Rosalia joined in, it would be even more complicated.

“Fabienne, this soup is exquisite.”

Ah, Fabienne is giving me a smile that isn’t quite a smile. Maybe I was a little too obvious? But since the soup was indeed superb, we both enjoyed the golden-colored soup.

After a while, as our meal continued, my mother, perhaps getting impatient, finally spoke up.

“So, Max, what happened?”

With my mother’s smiling face, my father, looking flustered, began talking about the reinforced glass I had created. Since we were already aware of it, we didn’t react, but Alex-niisan seemed surprised and intrigued.

“That’s amazing. I’d love to use it for the carriage windows.”

“That’s a great idea. The glass we’ve been using until now has been unreliable, and we’ve only been able to make small windows.”

The conversation between Alex-niisan and my mother flowed smoothly. With this, it seemed I could avoid talking about the sword. Maybe I’d gotten through it after all? My father, who had apparently sorted out his thoughts, joined in the conversation.

“Julius, that reinforced glass, it’s weak to fire, isn’t it? Is it safe?”

“It’s fine. I made a magical potion that can make it resistant to fire. If you apply that potion, the reinforced glass will become fire-resistant.”

“That’s amazing!”

“Right, right… huh?”

I noticed that the lively conversation around the table had suddenly quieted. When I looked closely, I saw that my father and the others were all staring at me.

Did I just make a mistake by saying it could be made fire-resistant?

“Julius-sama, is what you just said true?”

“Huh? Yeah, well, it’s true. The magical potion takes time to bond with the reinforced glass, so I was planning to have a test done tomorrow…”

Ah, Lionel is holding his head in his hands. Did I mess up? Maybe I should have left the weakness of the reinforced glass as is. But, for now, I’m the only one who can make the strongest reinforced glass. Normally, it would be about the same hardness as the items made by the mages.

When I explained this to Lionel, it seemed he understood, as the tension left his face.

Well, that’s true. If the enemy used it, it would be a big problem. At this rate, I shouldn’t try to sell the reinforced glass I imbue with magic. I’ll just make the necessary amount.

“Julius, you didn’t mention this before?”

“Well, that’s because I hadn’t done the test yet, so I didn’t know what kind of effect it would have. I was planning to report after the test tomorrow.”

My father looked at me with a suspicious gaze. He doesn’t believe me. But it’s true! Depending on tomorrow’s test results, this might end up causing him even more stress. Who would’ve thought that something I did with good intentions would lead to this…

“You really can’t take your eyes off Julius.”

My mother squinted her eyes, smiling with a troubled expression. She wasn’t angry, but she seemed quite exasperated. I need to be more careful. I also don’t want Fabienne, who has a role as a monitor, to think I’m “pathetic.”

“Just like Mother said. It’s Julius, after all. Do you think he’s done anything else? What about you, Rosalia?”

Alex-niisan asked jokingly. I’m sure he didn’t really think I had done something else wrong. He probably just wanted to tease me a little. But reality is harsh.

Rosalia, when Alex-niisan directed the conversation toward her, tilted her head and thought for a moment.

“Could it be about the sword glowing?”

Rosalia looked at me with innocent eyes. Don’t look at me like that. It’s hard to deny it. Look, Mother and Alex-niisan are now looking at me too.

“Julius?”

Mother gently called out to me. But that smile definitely didn’t seem like she was laughing. How did it come to this?
