Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 366: Fiancee Favorite

After lunch, as promised, everyone took a walk in the garden. Since everyone had eaten cold cookies, they were well-prepared to handle the heat. The strong sunlight prompted the application of sunscreen in advance.

“It’s almost summer, isn’t it, Oniisan?”

“That’s right. Another busy season is approaching. I wonder how things will turn out this year.”

“Kyuu.”

When summer comes, many nobles flock to the Heine Household to escape the heat. During that season, horse racing is held frequently. Thanks to my careless remark in the past, the association of “horse racing with the House of Heine” had solidified.

“Mira doesn’t seem too hot, either.”

“Kyuu!”

Despite being the furriest of all, Mira didn’t appear uncomfortable, thanks to the cold cookies. However, feeding her cold cookies every day wasn’t a sustainable solution. A more fundamental approach was needed.

“I guess we’ll have to trim Mira’s fur.”

“Kyuu?”

Sensing something, Mira hurriedly clung to Fabienne. It seemed she understood that I wouldn’t touch Fabienne. Clever. But, Mira, using Fabienne as a shield isn’t really fair, is it?

“Look, Mira, wouldn’t clinging to Fabienne like that make you feel even hotter?”

“Well, not really. Could this be the effect of the cold cookies?”

Fabienne seemed surprised by the change in her own body. Rosalia, curious, pulled Mira over and hugged her. Nero and Lelie also started checking their own bodies.

“It really isn’t hot. This must be the effect of the magical potion. It’s amazing!”

“Indeed. I don’t feel hot at all.”

“This is incredible!”

Lelie was overjoyed. Usually, stepping outside during this season meant sweating heavily. Considering the thickness of the maid uniforms, it must have been especially hot for them. I wonder if there are summer versions of maid uniforms.

“We’ve verified the effectiveness of the cold cookies well enough. It seems like a good idea to use them for long outings.”

“They’ll be handy when we go to the capital.”

With Nero’s endorsement, we concluded the testing of the cold cookies and headed to the knights for the next experiment.

As the seasons progressed, the outdoor temperature seemed to rise rapidly. Even the knights weren’t training during the hottest part of the day. We placed the experimental reinforced glass in a corner of the training ground and delivered the cold cookies that Fabienne had prepared earlier.

When we reached the office, Lionel was there.

“Lionel, I brought some additional magical potions.”

After knocking on the door, I entered. This room had a temperature-controlled air blower installed, so Lionel appeared cool and composed as he worked.

Seeing us all gathered, he raised one eyebrow skillfully.

“Well, well, thank you. By the way, are you planning some sort of experiment?”

“As expected of you, Lionel. I’m planning to test the reinforced glass.”

“Reinforced glass?”

“It’s glass that’s hard to break. By the way, could I borrow a few knights for the test?”

Lionel placed his hand on his chin, deep in thought. Hearing about reinforced glass seemed to leave him unconvinced. Well, that’s understandable. When you think of glass, the image of it shattering with even a slight impact comes to mind. It’s only natural to assume testing such glass would be dangerous.

“I understand. Of course, I’ll grant permission, but may I accompany you as well?”

“I don’t mind, but are you sure about your duties with the Order?”

I glanced at the pile of documents on the desk. As the leader of the knights, Lionel not only handled fieldwork but also dealt with deskwork like this. Being in a position of leadership sure is tough.

“There’s no need to worry about that. I’m more concerned about what you and your group might do.”

Well, he got me there. As expected from someone known as a troublemaker. In that case, there’s no choice but to grant permission. We’ll need to finish the tests as quickly as possible to free Lionel from this.

We headed straight for the training grounds. Along the way, I handed a knight a wooden box containing additional potions.

“These are cold cookies! Thank you!”

“They were made by Fabienne, so enjoy them properly.”

“Of course!”

“Oh, Julius-sama!”

Fabienne’s face turned red, and she puffed out her cheeks. What’s wrong with proudly showcasing my talented fiancée? Look, even the knight is smiling.

Accompanied by Fabienne, we arrived at the corner of the training ground we had visited earlier. Lionel had called out, and the knights were beginning to gather one after another.

“So this is the reinforced glass?”

“That’s right. I thought we’d test it by hitting it with a hammer.”

The knights looked up at me with troubled expressions, as if silently asking, “What is he talking about?” Still, they couldn’t outright reject my idea. Begrudgingly, they brought a hammer.

“You’re really going to hit this glass with a hammer, right?”

“Yep. This is the least durable of the reinforced glass samples, so let’s start with this. For safety, tap it lightly at first.”

“U-understood.”

The knight tapped the reinforced glass lightly with a one-handed hammer. Though it was described as light, it was enough force to shatter ordinary glass.

Contrary to everyone’s expectations, however, the glass emitted a sharp “clang” and repelled the impact. A collective “Ohhh” of astonishment filled the air.

“This is incredible! It didn’t break!”

Rosalia gazed at me with sparkling eyes. Fabienne, Nero, and Lelie wore looks of surprise. Judging by appearances, the reinforced glass didn’t have a single scratch.

“Alright, try hitting it a bit harder this time. Be careful; it might break.”

“Understood!”

The knight gripped the hammer and swung it down with more force than before. Yet, the glass repelled the impact once again. This time, however, there was a faint “crack” sound. It seemed a small fissure had appeared. At this rate, another blow of similar strength would likely shatter it.

“I can’t believe such glass exists… This is astonishing.”

Lionel was left speechless. But this was just the least durable reinforced glass, you know? Suddenly, I was feeling nervous about continuing the tests. What if the most durable glass turns out to be tougher than the swords used by the Order?
