Chapter 94: For the Sake of World Peace:
“So… it’s finally over, right, Lord?”
“…Yeah. Now all that’s left is to bring peace to the world.”
“I see! Yeah, you’re right!”
Kenya felt uneasy.
Why did Lord look so dark and heavy-hearted?
Their objective had been achieved.
So why did it feel like their hearts were no longer in sync?
He figured Lord was just grieving the loss of his brother.
That would explain the expression on his face.
That’s what Kenya believed.
…
A week had passed since then.
The world war had come to a temporary end.
With Odin’s death, Asgard needed to rebuild.
The World Federation also had to reorganize after losing Odin’s support.
Both armies withdrew.
Now, under Lord’s leadership, the Asgardian Empire was working to recover from the damage Odin had left behind.
Since the main command headquarters had been destroyed, as Odin once intended, Valhalla Castle was now serving as the new central command.
“Reina, Lord called for us today. Would you come with me?”
“Lord? Understood.”
One week had passed since the end of the war.
Kenya was summoned by Lord for the first time.
Lord had been extremely busy since the end of the war, and they hadn’t met even once.
But finally, today, Lord had reached out.
He specifically requested Reina to come along, so they were now headed to Valhalla Castle.
With the conflict against the World Federation momentarily resolved, the world was experiencing a fragile peace.
Kenya believed Lord was working hard to maintain it.
So he waited patiently, suppressing his desire to talk, not wanting to be a bother.
“I hope we can reconcile with the World Federation soon. I don’t know how the negotiations will go, but… I still need to go get Kaguya.”
“Yes, colonial liberation… though they’ll likely insist on keeping military strength. Something like that. I hope global stability comes soon.”
“Yeah, as long as it ends the war, I don’t care what the deal is. Then I could finally spar with you, Reina. I can’t believe you’ve been training with Osiris-sama!”
“I want to show you the strength I’ve gained, too. Believe it or not, I actually beat Osiris-sama! Though… he only had one hand at the time, so of course I won…”
“That’s still amazing!”
“That’s why I want you to see it soon. But not on a battlefield—just in a simulation. For fun, not risking our lives.”
“Yeah, I agree. Someday, I want to ride a KOG just for sport, like a game.”
Kenya and Reina arrived at Valhalla Castle.
They were led to the throne room.
There sat Lord, surrounded by numerous military officers.
“It’s been a while… since that day, right?”
“Yes.”
Because of the others present, Kenya responded formally.
“My knight… I owe you more than words can express. I became emperor thanks to you. I am truly grateful—from the bottom of my heart. Thank you.”
Lord, uncharacteristically, spoke with calm sincerity.
It wasn’t a performance.
It was genuine—and deeply sorrowful.
“Lord? What’s wrong?”
Lord’s demeanor was clearly off, and Kenya slipped out of formal speech.
“Sword, in light of your past contributions, I’ve decided… I won’t take your life.”
“Huh?”
Kenya couldn’t believe what he’d just heard.
“My life? What are you saying, Lord?”
“I’m aware of your plot to rebel against the Empire. Therefore, I’m placing you under arrest.”
At that moment, the surrounding soldiers moved in toward Kenya.
They easily restrained him.
Reina, watching, cried out:
“Kenya!”
“Hey, Lord! What the hell is this?! What kind of sick joke is this?! Hey!”
Kenya shouted as he was bound.
But Lord said nothing.
He simply whispered, without meeting Kenya’s eyes, in a voice only Kenya could hear:
“…I’m sorry.”
Then Lord stood.
Wearing a pained expression, as if he couldn’t bear to watch any longer.
“Lord! Lord!!”
“Take him to the Isolation Tower. Don’t rough him up too much. But… if he resists, there’s no helping it.”
Kenya, thrashing about, was slammed to the ground.
Meanwhile, soldiers began closing in on Reina as well.
“Reina! Run!”
“N-No…”
“Reina! I don’t understand what’s going on either! But for now, run… and… go to your cousin! And take this!”
Kenya threw a card key from his pocket to Reina.
At the mention of “cousin” and upon seeing the card, Reina immediately understood his intent.
Her panicked face hardened into one of resolve—a warrior’s face.
She dashed at full speed, shattered a window, and leapt out of the throne room.
“What the—!? That’s the third floor!”
The soldiers rushed to the broken window and looked outside.
There they saw Reina landing gracefully and immediately sprinting away.
Only someone of Reina’s skill could manage such a desperate escape.
“What a woman… but we’re not letting her go!!”
The soldiers raised their guns.
“Stop! Don’t shoot!”
Lord’s voice rang out, halting them.
“Pursue her, but don’t kill her. She’s the last thing Sieg left behind. If possible… don’t kill her. Besides, without a KOG, she won’t get far.”
(Cousin? Reina doesn’t have anyone like that… Was he talking about Kenya’s cousin? I don’t understand.)
Under Lord’s orders, the soldiers chased after Reina.
Only Kenya remained pinned to the floor.
Kenya stared at Lord, confused.
He had been betrayed, hadn’t he?
And yet… Lord’s personality didn’t seem to have changed.
That kind boy—he wasn’t a lie. Kenya could still feel that same kindness.
“Lord… what is your goal?”
Kenya asked from the floor, gazing up at Lord’s back.
That familiar back, turned away from him.
Steady and unwavering.
“My goal? …It’s never changed. Not since that day. The day my mother died. The day she called me a demon. Nothing has changed. What I’ve always wished for remains the same.”
For the first time, Lord answered Kenya’s question.
“World peace.”
…
“Huff… huff… this card key—it’s for Kenya’s Takemikazuchi, isn’t it? His cousin… that must mean Kaguya!”
Reina, now being pursued, ran as she activated her KOG device.
She contacted Issei Tanaka.
“Hello?”
“Huff… this is Reina! Where’s Takemikazuchi right now?”
“Where? South District maintenance bay. It’s right in front of me, actually.”
(South District… About 10 minutes from here.)
“Kenya’s been captured. I’m taking Takemikazuchi and you, Tanaka-san, and we’re fleeing Asgard for now. Get ready!”
“Huh? Wait—!”
Reina cut the transmission and sprinted at full speed toward the maintenance bay.
(Gotta move fast… They’ll be locking things down soon.)
…
“What the hell? What was that about… Captured?”
Tanaka was in the middle of doing maintenance on Takemikazuchi.
Reina’s sudden call had left him confused—and then she cut it off before explaining anything.
This particular maintenance bay had been set up in the imperial capital by Lord himself, just for Tanaka, Kenya, and Takemikazuchi.
Tanaka tried to call back, but got no response.
As he was puzzling over what to do next—the intercom rang.
“A visitor? Reina?”
But when he checked the monitor, it was a soldier from the Asgard military.
Tanaka understood instantly.
Something had happened.
He, Kenya, and Reina were now being targeted by the Asgardian military.
“Yes, yes, just a second! I’ll open it right away. Just a moment!”
He faked a cheerful tone to buy time.
Then quickly messaged Reina to enter through the back entrance.
“Dammit, what the hell is going on?! Anyway—Takemikazuchi!”
Tanaka rushed to finish the final touches to get Takemikazuchi ready for launch.
BOOM!
A deafening crash—the doors were blown open.
Through the smoke emerged soldiers of the Asgardian army.
They stormed the maintenance bay with guns at the ready.
“This is bad…”
“Issei Tanaka! Come out! You are under arrest for high treason! We can still assign you legal representation if you surrender now! Otherwise, you’ll be executed on the spot!”
Tanaka, cloaked by the smoke, climbed up into Takemikazuchi’s cockpit and held his breath.
“Reina… please get here fast…”
While Tanaka held his breath, the soldiers ransacked the maintenance bay.
Like robbers, they tore through lockers and trash bins in search of him, leaving the place in chaos.
“Did he escape?”
“Seems like it. But their objective was the mech, right? Then maybe it’s fine.”
“…Yeah. We lost Lord’s target, but we can report that the mech has been secured.”
After tearing the place apart, the soldiers, seemingly giving up, approached the Takemikazuchi.
That’s when the man who appeared to be the squad leader noticed something.
“Come to think of it… there’s still one place we haven’t checked.”
“Yes, I just had the same thought.”
Their eyes turned to the cockpit on the back of Takemikazuchi.
The soldiers grinned as they began to climb up slowly.
“Oh no… this is bad, really bad…”
Then it happened.
Tanaka’s device started ringing. The soldiers turned their grinning faces toward the sound.
Backed into a corner, Tanaka answered, putting all his hope into this final call.
“Hello!”
“Open the cockpit!!”
He obeyed the command without hesitation and opened the cockpit.
Right in front of him—the enemy soldiers.
“So you were here after a—guh!!”
Just as one soldier raised his gun, something crashed down from above and slammed him to the ground.
Shards of glass rained down as someone shattered the skylight and descended from the air—a silver-haired girl.
With a swift kick, she took down the surrounding soldiers and leapt into the cockpit.
“Reina!”
“Activating Takemikazuchi! Close it!”
“R-Right!”
The cockpit sealed shut, with Tanaka and Reina inside.
Reina inserted the card key Kenya had entrusted to her, and initiated Takemikazuchi.
But then—
“Kya!!”
She collapsed onto the floor.
“No way… it’s this hard just to make it stand?”
“Reina, stay calm. We’re not in combat. Just go slow. Take your time standing up. If it’s just flying, you can do it. Breathe.”
“Okay! Whew… Alright!”
Taking a deep breath, Reina composed herself.
(Kenya really is amazing… controlling something this complex…)
But Reina was no ordinary pilot—she had reached the level of Holy Knight Commander.
She quickly got the hang of it and managed to get the mech standing, albeit slowly.
“F-Fire!! Don’t let them escape!”
The soldiers fired frantically.
But ordinary guns were useless against a KOG.
“Alright, time to fly. Slowly, just nice and slow—wait, what!?”
“Kyaaaa!!”
Takemikazuchi shot up into the sky at full throttle.
In a flash, it accelerated to near-supersonic speed, soaring high into the heavens.
“Reina! Pull the lever down! The lever!!”
“I barely moved it!! What is this thing!? It’s insane, it’s broken!!”
“Of course it is—it’s tuned for Kenya!!”
“He overdid it!! Seriously!! Kyaaaa!!”
When she pulled the lever back down, they plummeted just as fast.
Only seconds before impact—
“Hurry!! Pull it back up!!!”
“Y-You stupid mech, obey me!! I’m your master’s wife, you know!!”
Takemikazuchi zipped through the sky at near-supersonic speeds, swerving wildly.
Flying was far more difficult than standing up, and by the time Reina managed to stabilize it, both she and Tanaka were bruised and banged up from smacking their heads all over the cockpit.
“Huff… Huff… Finally. At this speed, I can at least control it… I can’t believe Kenya managed this thing…”
“I seriously thought we were going to die…”
Finally stabilized, Takemikazuchi had spent about three minutes flying around the imperial capital like a rollercoaster.
Tanaka’s glasses had been shattered, and Reina had a massive bump on her head.
“Alright then… Let’s go. To Japan.”
And with that, Reina set course for Japan.
“So… are you going to explain now, Reina?”
“…Yes. But to be honest, I still don’t understand most of it either. But… there’s one thing I do know for sure…”
Reina spoke clearly and with conviction.
“Lord… is the enemy.”
———————-
Ding-dong-ding-dooong…
It happened when Reina had taken off for Japan.
A sound echoed across all of Asgard.
A sound that every citizen of Asgard knew well.
It signaled the beginning of an Imperial Broadcast.
Whenever this sound played, all citizens were required to turn on their televisions.
Failure to do so was met with harsh punishment, so the viewership rate was effectively 100%.
This broadcast, of course, would also be seen by the World Union.
As long as the signal was received, it could be watched.
“Genbu-san! An Imperial Broadcast is beginning!”
“Turn it on immediately!”
In the World Union headquarters, where a strategy meeting was underway, Byakuren, Thor, Camille, and Genbu scrambled at the report.
They received the signal from Asgard and displayed the footage on the screen.
The world, still bearing the scars of the First Great War, had been desperately trying to open diplomatic talks with Lord Asgard — but there had been no response, leaving them at an impasse.
And then, out of nowhere, the Imperial Broadcast began.
“I have a bad feeling about this, Father. For the Imperial Broadcast to air now…”
“…Yeah.”
Everyone in the World Union, and all of Asgard, turned their attention to the screen.
There stood a lone boy.
He began speaking slowly, with a clear and commanding voice.
“I am the 100th Emperor, Lord Asgard. My brother Odin is dead, and Asgard is now, in every sense, under my control. The world war… has ended.”
Everyone gasped.
They fully grasped the weight of someone calling themselves Emperor.
“In this war, at least ten thousand lives were lost. In just one week. Every one of them had families, parents, children, lovers. I constantly ask myself: Why does war occur? Why can’t people around the world simply enjoy culture, love those dear to them, and live peaceful lives?”
“What is he trying to say… the Emperor…”
“The world is full of sorrow and hatred. Our empire alone has killed and been killed by the millions in war. And it’s not just us — everyone born on this planet has been touched by war in some form. The chains of hatred have spread so deeply, so intricately throughout the world, that we can no longer untangle them. At this rate, war will continue for all eternity. Even if Asgard were to fall, another nation would rise in its place, and the same cycle would repeat. War among humanity is endless. Even if nations form alliances and peace is achieved, once generations change or leadership shifts, war will return. Conflict never ends.”
Hearing this, Genbu and Camille silently nodded deep in their hearts.
They, too, understood — war would never vanish.
“Why is that? I have come to one conclusion. And that is…”
Lord stood and declared boldly and clearly:
“Education.”
“Education? What nonsense is this?”
Byakuren scoffed at the statement.
But Genbu, Camille, and Isshin all stared straight at Lord — as if affirming it.
“Education is the only way for humanity to face in the same direction. When we are young, before our personalities, ethics, and sense of normalcy are fully formed — that is the only time we can truly join hands. It’s not about race. It’s not about appearances. And certainly not about nations. When our education and cultures differ, even if we are all human, we become incomprehensible enemies. But for those of us already alive — our personalities are set. We carry too much hatred. True reconciliation is no longer possible. That’s why…”
Lord paused, then continued to the heart of his declaration.
“I want to entrust the future of peace to the next generation — to the children. Untainted by hatred, pure in heart, and with the capacity to love one another sincerely. Through education, I want to teach them that humanity is one, and that others are not enemies. Because that… is how we create lasting peace.”
“That’s impossible. Every country has its own culture, religion, language, politics, and economy. Each teaches its children entirely different values.”
“No… and that is exactly why Lord…”
Byakuren firmly rejected the idea, declaring it impossible.
He argued that different countries naturally have different systems of education and culture — that it was only to be expected.
But precisely because of that, Genbu understood what Lord was about to say next.
“For that future — for the sake of a new era — I will destroy this one. I will stain my hands with blood that cannot be washed clean. I will become the object of the world’s hatred, all for the sake of those who come after. Even if it means walking the path of carnage… Even if it means falling into hell.”
“So it really comes to this…”
Then, Lord raised his voice and made a bold declaration.
“I will destroy all nations. So that one day, all of humanity may face the same direction. I will erase every nation and make the world one. Even if a billion people stand in my way, I will step over their corpses and keep moving forward.
I will move the needle of humanity forward — I will change the world. And that is why I—!!”
Lord said it.
With a gentle face, and with unwavering resolve.
“—will unify the world.”
A declaration as if from the devil himself.
