Chapter 77: The Awakened War God
The timeline shifts back a bit—Day 3 of the Japan Defense Battle, just before sunrise.
“An unfamiliar ceiling…”
The boy muttered a line he’d always wanted to say at least once in his life, in the perfect situation, as he awoke.
“Good morning, Kenya-kun.”
“Tanaka-san!”
“How are you feeling? You were pretty much pumped full of meds… You had pneumonia, so don’t push yourself too hard.”
Kenya looked around.
This was a medical room—no, a private, extravagantly luxurious one.
Probably the kind of room nobles would use. Did Lord splurge for this?
“My stomach’s a little queasy and I’ve got a headache, but I feel okay!”
“Haha, well, you were out cold for nearly three full days. It’s been three days since the Imperial Sword Martial Festival ended.”
“Th-Three days… Where do I even begin? What’s going on with the world right now?”
Had Lord become emperor? If so, what happened to Odin?
While slowly sitting up, Kenya asked Tanaka about the state of the world.
“Alright… I’ll tell you everything.”
Tanaka explained all that he knew.
That Lord had become Emperor, and that the World Union had launched an attack.
And then—
“Reina went alone!?”
He also told Kenya that Reina had gone by herself to District 13 to save her father.
“Yeah. This morning, aboard Aphrodite—her personal mech. She should be arriving in a few hours.”
(A world war… Kaguya and Reina fighting… No way. I can’t let that happen. Never.)
“Tanaka-san! Where’s Takemikazuchi?!”
“Huh? Oh, it’s still at the arena… You’re the only one who can pilot it properly anyway.”
“Then let me borrow it!”
“Wait, what are you planning? Don’t tell me—”
“You already know.”
Kenya jumped out of bed.
“I came here to change the world—to save the heroines.”
◇ Conversation Before Deployment: Lord and Sieg◇
“Zeke, I’m handing over command authority to you. If it’s impossible, retreat immediately. Japan is important, yes—but we have no solid intel on enemy strength, and I can’t command from here.”
“Understood. But I intend to hold out to the very end. If we defend here, it’ll bring us one step closer to your goal, Lord.”
“…I still need you. Don’t die on me.”
“If it’s for the world, I won’t regret giving my life.”
(“Lord, I will fight—at the cost of my life if I must.”)
The story returns again to Day 3 of the Japan Defense Battle, early morning.
Sieg faced the enemy KOGs in front of him and spoke on open comms.
“As the reports said… Both of you actually came to this battlefield.”
Sieg Sylphid now stood face-to-face with them.
“It’s been a while, War God Sieg. You got away last time, but today, you’ll pay for burning down my homeland.”
“This is our first meeting, War God. I am Byakuren. Remember my name well—it’s the name of the man who will kill you.”
The strongest pilot of the EU: the Thunder God Thor, in his lightning-yellow mech Mjölnir.
The strongest pilot in Asia: Byakuren, piloting the serene blue mech Seiryuu, like a flowing river.
And then—another.
A girl piloting a bright red mech stood opposite him.
This was when the front line, which had just been pushed back, was about to be reclaimed.
As predicted in Byakuren’s strategy, Sieg, known as the War God, had arrived to push back the tide.
“Sieg-san! Damn it—out of the way!!”
Sieg’s unit was being pinned down by the World Union forces.
They had more than double the numbers, but Sieg’s leadership and morale had evened the playing field.
“Heh. For you two to come all this way just to kill an old man like me… I must be quite the lucky knight.”
“Don’t sell yourself short. If you die, this entire battle collapses. That’s how vital you are—as both the War God and as a person.”
Byakuren was right.
The fact they’d lasted three days was a miracle owed to sky-high morale.
And the reason for that was none other than Sieg—who was deeply respected and loved by all his soldiers.
Sieg always fought at the front lines, risking his life.
So every soldier fought to protect Sieg.
Their battlefield, with the collective will to defend, became an unshakable fortress holding back the World Union’s onslaught.
But the flip side of that was—
“You heard it, War God. The moment you fall, it’s over. Now… Let’s continue where we left off!!”
If Sieg were to be defeated, the entire army would crumble.
That was the reality.
Thor closed the distance like a bolt of lightning, wielding the massive hammer mounted on his back.
Mjölnir’s massive hammer was a nightmare weapon in multi-opponent combat, but it was just as deadly in a one-on-one—its strikes were devastating and impossible for ordinary soldiers to block.
That hammer aimed to crush Sieg.
An ordinary knight would have been finished with a single blow.
If it were an ordinary knight.
“Hmph!”
Sieg parried the blow.
As one of the Empire’s strongest warriors, he deflected the lethal strike.
Soft overcomes hard.
Like Aikido, he gently caught the hammer with his sword and redirected it.
It was a master-level martial arts technique, difficult even for trained fighters—and Sieg performed it inside a KOG.
Even unarmored, Sieg was a martial arts master.
He recreated that finesse inside the cockpit.
Seeing this, Kaguya muttered:
“He’s strong… definitely stronger than me right now.”
In her judgment, not just stronger than herself—one of the 13 Gods of Asia—but stronger than any of them.
Sieg Sylphid was overwhelmingly powerful.
However, there was one man who could still keep up:
“You won’t call it cowardice, will you, War God!!”
Byakuren.
“Tch!”
“Sieg-san! I’ll help—Wahh!!”
“Focus on your own battle! I’m fine!”
Byakuren’s blue spear lunged to pierce Sieg—but was deflected at the last moment by his sword.
Unlike Thor, Byakuren’s spear was fluid and unpredictable, like a blue dragon, and nearly impossible to defend against for ordinary knights.
Thor and Byakuren.
Sieg desperately fends off the fierce assaults from the two of them.
Outnumbered, outclassed in machine specs—
He’s outmatched in every way. And yet, he defends. He parries.
His strength is like that of a demon god.
“I will not lose!”
The life-draining battle rages on.
No ordinary mind could endure it.
Hammer, spear, and sword clash, sustained only by Sieg’s unyielding spirit.
A single blow from them could obliterate him—yet Sieg dodges, deflects, endures them all.
This life-or-death battle, pushed to the limit, brings back memories from the past. A feeling of omnipotence envelops his body.
Sieg Sylphid—had undoubtedly awakened.
“To think you’ve come this far in a mass-production unit! No wonder you’re the man who destroyed over half our country!”
“If you’re saying that, then how many of my subordinates do you think you killed!?”
Thor and Sieg exchange words over their KOG comms.
“Just like the rumors said, War God! Were you even stronger back in your prime?”
“I’m always at my strongest now. You know why!?”
“Gah!”
“Because the number of people I want to protect grows with age.”
Sieg deflects the attacks from both Byakuren and Thor.
His concentration peaks—his strength now rivals that of Osiris.
The only regret is that his mass-production model cannot fully draw out his power.
Yet even so, in a two-on-one battle against some of the strongest in the world, Sieg Sylphid is awakened enough to endure.
He defends so well that Thor and Byakuren can’t break through.
Their powers are evenly matched—the scales balanced, swaying by the slightest margin.
Just a spark—like a blazing fire—could tip it.
“You’re not the only one with something to protect.”
Kaguya takes advantage of a brief opening as Sieg parries both Byakuren and Thor.
She moves behind him.
That single moment—after fending off two overwhelming foes—is all the chance she needs.
Kaguya, too, has stepped into the realm of the strongest.
Her real battlefield experience, gained by putting her life on the line, is incomparable to training—she’s grown tremendously.
“What!?”
Kaguya gets behind Sieg.
A flash of red strikes from behind, aiming directly for him.
A perfect blow—Kaguya had been lying in wait for this one attack.
Now, it can no longer be avoided.
“Goodbye, War God. Japan is ours again.”
Just as the crimson blade was about to pierce Sieg—
Clang!
The red sword is deflected. A metallic ring echoes across the battlefield.
Kaguya glares at the new unit that stole her perfect opportunity, and speaks.
“…Who are you?”
What appeared was a unit beautiful as white snow, cherry blossoms fluttering around it.
“I am Reina Sylphid. Do you remember me?”
“Ah… That’s right, you were with the Asgard military.”
That voice—she’d heard it many times before.
The voice of a friend.
But now—
“It’s been a while, Kaguya.”
The voice of an enemy.
