Chapter 75: The Battle for Tokyo Begins

“Kenya-kun… I’m off.”

A girl kissed the forehead of the sleeping boy before standing up.

The boy who had emerged victorious from a deadly battle was still in a deep slumber.

Brushing aside the strands of hair that had fallen across his peaceful face, she gazed at him with affection.

She wanted to stay like this forever.

It was a moment so blissful that it almost felt possible.

But—she had to go.

To save someone just as important to her as the boy in front of her.

With her memories restored, she rose to rescue the last family she had left—the one still fighting.

So, the girl set off alone.

Even though what awaited her might be the end.

“Is that you? We should be able to see Japan by now, right?”

“Father… Yes, we can already see it. So? Has the new emperor been decided? I doubt Osiris Halberd would lose, but…”

From the Imperial capital of Kamui, Genbu contacted his son, Byakuren, who was stationed at the frontlines.

Genbu had already learned the outcome from a spy who had secretly recorded footage of the Imperial Sword Tournament.

“The new emperor is Lord Asgard. Osiris Halberd lost. The one who defeated him was Sword Sylphid—Lord’s knight.”

“What!? Impossible… That can’t be… Could you send me the footage? I need to see it with my own eyes—Osiris losing just doesn’t seem real.”

“I already sent it. The quality is poor, so you won’t see much detail, but… to me, it looked like he was fighting with everything he had.”

“…Understood. Thank you. I’ll contact you again later.”

Aboard a warship on the open sea, Kaguya and Byakuren watched the footage of the Imperial Sword Tournament that Genbu had sent them.

It had been secretly filmed by a spy from the Asian Union, so the quality was too poor to make out the finer details.

“Sword Sylphid… The youngest knight to be appointed under Lord.”

(I saw him at the knight’s ordination ceremony. For a moment, I thought he was Kenya… but I never imagined someone that strong existed.)

Everyone, including Kaguya, had seen the footage from that day.

But Kenya had silver hair, and his face was never clearly shown, so no one could say for sure.

Besides—Kenya was dead.

She had engraved that truth deep into her heart.

And so, she refused to connect the two—refused to even entertain the thought.

Kaguya and Byakuren continued watching the footage.

“He’s strong… Did he really surpass Osiris?”

“This white machine… It’s beautiful. Dual swords, and…”

(This fighting style… it reminds me of Kenya.)

She shook her head, forcing the thought away.

If she kept clinging to the past, she wouldn’t be able to fight when the time came.

This opponent was an Asgardian.
Sooner or later, they would be enemies.

“Honestly, this footage isn’t clear enough to judge his strength.”

“Yeah, it’s too blurry.”

“Osiris had been away from the battlefield for too long. His skills must have dulled…”

(Otherwise, there’s no way the Sword Saint would have lost.)

Byakuren clung to that reasoning.

He, the strongest warrior in Asia, had once faced Osiris and had no chance of victory.

To accept that someone younger than him had defeated Osiris was too much to process.

“So, Lord Asgard is the new emperor. What does that mean for us?”

“From a military standpoint, it’s the worst-case scenario. However, I’ve heard he’s a man of integrity. If we were to lose, there are worse people to lose to.”

“I see. But losing isn’t an option for us anyway.”

“Exactly. Encouraging as that is, he won’t be here. He’s too busy consolidating power within his own ranks.”

At that moment, an announcement rang out.

“We are approaching Japan. Current time: 16:00. All personnel, prepare for deployment.”

“We’ve arrived. Stay alive, Princess.”

“Do I look like someone that fragile?”

Byakuren sent Kaguya off with a smile.

Then, both of them began their final preparations—she for her crimson KOG, he for his azure one.

Byakuren’s personal unit, the Seiryu, was a cutting-edge machine, built with the best technology the Asian Union had to offer.

It could stand against even Asgard’s finest units.

And piloting it was the strongest of Asia’s Thirteen Gods.

“All units, report your status.”

Byakuren, seated in his KOG, waited for updates from each division.

“EU forces are ready, Byakuren.”

“Thor?”

The voice that responded belonged to Thor, the strongest warrior in the EU.

He and Byakuren had fought side by side on the battlefield before.

“I’ll leave command on your end to you.”

“Understood. The Asian Union is under your command. I’ll lead the EU forces from the west.”

“Good.”

The World Allied Forces were divided into two major factions:

The Asian Union Army

The EU Army

The supreme commander of the World Allied Forces was Byakuren, a leader who not only directed operations but also fought on the battlefield himself.

His deputy commander was Thor.

Thor’s unit was called Mjolnir—a yellow machine that streaked across the battlefield with the speed of lightning.

He had earned the nickname “Thor, the Thunder God”, and his machine’s performance rivaled even that of Takemikazuchi.

He was once the strongest warrior in the EU, a man who had even pushed the legendary Sieg to the brink in battle.

Though each division had its own commanders, Byakuren and Thor were effectively the two top military leaders of the World Alliance.

“Looks like they’re ready over there too, Byakuren.”

Thor’s gaze was fixed on the Asgardian Army’s KOGs, lined up in formation.

Though some distance remained between them, it was clear that the enemy had successfully established a defensive line.

“Yeah, so it seems. Shall I take the first charge, as usual?”

Thor offered, as was his habit.

He was always the first to charge into battle, always ahead of everyone else.

This time, however, Byakuren shook his head.

“No, let someone else take the lead this time.”

“Hmm? I don’t mind, but that’s unlike you.”

“It’s not me. There’s a certain stubborn princess who refuses to be held back. I’ll be right behind her, covering her.”

“I see. Understood. I’ll move to support from the rear.”

As the two sides closed in on each other, they were now within range—bullets would soon begin flying.

“It’s starting… Whew—”

(Big brother… Kenya… please, protect me.)

“Alright! Remember why you fight! Remember what you’re truly afraid of!”

Kaguya steadied her breath, taking a deep inhale.

This was her first real battle—her first experience in a true war, a battlefield where people would die.

She had no doubts, but she did have regrets.

Regrets for the words that never reached him that day.

Regrets for the self that once ran away.

She had climbed her way to the rank of one of Asia’s Thirteen Gods to change that past.

The season was winter, and the time was dusk.

The sun was beginning to set, its light slowly fading away.

Before them lay the land—the former Tokyo Bay.

And in their way stood the world’s strongest army, the Asgardian Empire’s KOG forces.

On their side, however, was the largest allied force in history, the World Allied Army.

And so, here and now—

The war between the Empire and the World Alliance had begun.

“Transmit to all units! Lift off! Commence battle! Target: Former Tokyo! All forces—annihilate the Asgardian Imperial Army!”

Byakuren’s voice roared across the battlefield.

And at that moment—

Kaguya, aboard Hinokagutsuchi, launched forward faster than anyone else.

“HAAAH!!”

A brilliant crimson flash erased the twilight orange from the sky.

And in an instant—

The enemy’s front line was obliterated.

“I will never run away again!”
