Chapter 73: Formation of the World Union

“Now, let’s begin! Toward the formation of the World Union!”

With those words, Camille and the EU delegation began shaking hands one after another, exchanging greetings. Many other national representatives were present, nearly a hundred in total, waiting in the adjacent large conference room.

At the main table, Camille, as the leader of the EU, sat across from Genbu, the leader of the Asian Union.

“Once again, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I am Camille. You may consider my words as those of the EU as a whole. Time is of the essence.”

Camille said, keeping his introduction brief, urging urgency.

He was a man in his late 40s, wearing glasses—a diplomat responsible for leading EU politics, a highly capable man.

“Indeed, we have little time. Only a week, during which that nation has a moment of vulnerability.”

Genbu replied.

The world was watching.

The Asgard Empire was currently holding the Imperial Sword Martial Tournament to determine its next emperor. The battle had already begun, with the knights of Lord and Odin clashing in a one-on-one duel to decide the ruler.

“Odin has declared his intent to wage war against the Asian Union. And—”

“Lord Asgard, who nearly wiped out half of our nation. Regardless of who becomes emperor, the outcome is catastrophic. If anything, Odin would be the lesser evil. Lord Asgard is a true monster.”

The two representatives nodded in agreement.

There was no time to spare. That was why they had bypassed years of negotiations and pushed for an immediate decision among the key representatives.

“Then, as stated in the official documents, I would like to confirm once more—does the Asian Union wish to merge with the EU?”

Camille got straight to the point.

Genbu nodded and responded firmly.

“We have already reached a resolution within the Asian Union. We welcome all EU member states as allies of the Asian Union.”

Hearing this, Camille stood up and extended his hand for a handshake.

“Then!”

“Yes, as of today, the Asian Union shall change its name. With the merger with the EU— we are now the World Union!”

“Thank you, Genbu! This will save the world from being ruled by that empire!”

The two representatives shook hands firmly.

At that moment, a massive union state was born—one that surpassed even Asgard in land area.

And this new nation’s goal was singular.

“Defeat Asgard!”

A counteroffensive against the world’s largest monarchy, the Asgard Empire. A union formed to resist a single emperor seeking to control billions of people.

Thus, the World Union was born.

However, today’s agenda had one more crucial matter.

That was the real reason the representatives were urgently gathered.

“So far, everything has followed the written agreements. However, now that the Imperial Sword Martial Tournament has begun, we must seize the opportunity to launch an offensive. That nation will inevitably start a war, and we have no reason not to strike while they are vulnerable.”

Genbu’s proposal was clear.

“And we have already selected our target. The World Union forces will reclaim the occupied Japan!”

“What!?”

Hearing this, Kaguya leaned forward in shock. Isshin tried to calm her, but even he was tense.

After all, this decision had only been made the night before.

It would be the World Union’s first military operation. And the EU had not yet been informed that Japan was the target.

“Japan… May I ask the reason?”

“Of course. Isshin, please come forward.”

“Yes.”

Isshin stepped up at Genbu’s call and met Camille’s gaze.

“This man represents Japan—Kurokami Isshin. A former general of the old Japanese military and leader of the largest resistance force, Amaterasu.”

“I am Kurokami Isshin. A pleasure to meet you.”

“The pleasure is mine!”

Camille replied, exchanging bows with Isshin.

“There are several reasons, but the most important is geographical. The country is surrounded by sea, making it difficult to invade but easy to defend.”

“I understand that, but… I see, it’s because of the timing, isn’t it?”

“Exactly. We will launch a full-scale invasion of Japan while the Imperial Sword Martial Tournament is underway. With the emperor absent and their chain of command in disarray, the empire will struggle to respond.”

Genbu’s plan was to exploit the emperor’s absence during the tournament.
Currently, Odin was leading the empire, but during the tournament, neither Odin nor Lord could officially take command.

Whoever commanded the war would be recognized as the de facto emperor until the conflict ended.

Neither side would allow that.

Thus, they would prioritize deciding the emperor over defending Japan.

A swift, lightning-fast strike was necessary.

Factoring in preparation time, the operation would commence—

“On the morning of the Imperial Sword Martial Tournament.”

“I see… If we take that country, it will become the ultimate natural fortress in the coming war against the Asgard Empire,” Camille agreed.

“And the World Union’s ultimate goal is to overthrow Asgard. To achieve that, we must liberate all 13 Special Districts currently under their control. We will begin with District 13—Japan. And with a Japanese leader at our side, we have just cause.”

“A just cause… A persuasive reason for the people, huh? That’s crucial. The citizens will accept this—not as an invasion, but as a war of liberation, a fight for independence.”

Camille was convinced.

In addition to the geographical advantage, this operation could be framed as a war of liberation.

“Then, today, we shall hold a vote among the representatives of the World Union. I trust there are no objections, as our cause is clear?”

Genbu proposed the resolution.

“Of course.”

Camille agreed.

Genbu then turned his gaze to Isshin.

“Isshin, I need you to lead this. You are the most suitable for the task—that’s why I called you here.”

“Yes! Leave it to me!”

With that, the meeting swiftly concluded, and they moved to the large conference hall.

Genbu, Camille, and Isshin took the stage.

Over 200 representatives, including royalty, presidents, and prime ministers from various nations, watched with bated breath.

Then, Genbu spoke.

“We shall now announce the decision made earlier. The Asian Union and the EU have joined hands, agreeing to stand against the Asgard Empire!”

“This means…”

A murmur spread through the assembly hall.

Everyone present was aware of the agenda for today, but until this very moment, they hadn’t known for certain whether it would come to fruition.

“In other words, as of today, we are comrades. Our ideologies, cultures, political systems, and economies may differ. Some of our nations have clashed in the past, and some still harbor grievances over what was taken from them. I understand that resentment remains. However, we now stand on the precipice of disaster. The greatest and most terrible enemy is upon us—seeking to dominate the world, to enslave us all in eternal submission. But we will resist! With this unprecedented, grand alliance of nations!”

Raising his fist high, Genbu made his declaration.

“Here and now, we proclaim the establishment of the World Union!”

The representatives of each nation rose to their feet, applauding and celebrating this momentous decision.

“And today, the World Union will hold its first vote. Please introduce the first topic of discussion.”

Genbu stepped up to the podium. The eyes of the world turned toward Isshin.

Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Isshin began to speak—his words carrying all the emotions he had held within him.

“I am Isshin Kurokami. I am Japanese.”

A ripple of whispers spread through the hall.

A man from a nation that no longer existed stood before them.

“Six years ago, my homeland was invaded by the Empire. There was no just cause—only a desire for territorial expansion. Our people were massacred. My family was slaughtered. My wife. My sister. My son. And Japan ceased to exist. Hundreds of thousands, millions, perished. The survivors were enslaved, taken to Asgard, where they continue to suffer fates worse than death. I was a soldier. I had steeled myself to fight, to die. Yet they slaughtered those who could not fight—children, women, the innocent. After the defeat, I was consumed by anger and despair.
I considered ending my own life more times than I can count. But I held on.
For one reason alone. For those who remain. For my comrades. For the people who still endure this suffering. And…”

Isshin turned to look at Kaguya.

“For this child. The only family I have left. Now counted among the Thirteen Gods of Asia—my beloved, my pride, my daughter. For the sake of every Japanese soul still suffering, I will take back our homeland. I will reclaim a future where they can live and smile!”

“Father…”

“I speak not of the past, but of the future. What I have witnessed was real. The hell I lived through was real. But now, the same fate threatens the entire world! Odin has declared his intent to subjugate the Asian Union. We all saw his speech.
His words still echo in our minds!”

Isshin’s voice thundered through the hall.

“That is why we must resist! Can you even imagine the suffering that will engulf the world if we lose? We must fight—not wait, but take action for the sake of freedom! Today, the World Union was born. There has never been a force of this magnitude in human history. With this power, we can defeat the Empire!”

The atmosphere in the hall shifted.
The representatives began to see it—to believe it.

“The first motion I bring before the World Union is this— The liberation of Japan!”

Isshin bowed deeply, pouring his heart out before them.

The representatives stood, applauding him.

As Isshin stepped down, Genbu took his place at the podium.

“We can do this. And you, representatives of the EU, should understand better than anyone. Your nations were founded by those who fought for freedom. You know what it means to resist—to fight for what is right. The Asian Union has already made its decision.”

All members of the Asian Union stood.
They turned to face the EU delegation.

A silent but unmistakable message—
The Asian Union was fully committed to retaking Japan.

And then—

“A surprise indeed. You ask us to decide the fate of the world here and now…
But, Genbu, we knew the answer the moment we set foot in this hall.”

Camille, the EU representative, slowly rose to his feet.

Though this had been discussed in advance, this was the moment for performance.

“The EU will spare no military strength. We will fight. That is why the World Union was formed!”

One by one, the EU representatives also stood.

Camille turned to Isshin and bowed his head.

“Isshin Kurokami. A man who has fought tirelessly for freedom. As a representative of a free nation, as a fellow man, I hold you in the highest regard.”

Isshin bowed in return.

Camille lifted his voice for all to hear.

“Let us fight.

For our freedom.
For the freedom of the children who will inherit this world.

And when the day of victory comes,
let us declare it a holiday for generations to come!”

Camille smiled at Isshin.

“World Independence Day.”

Isshin could not lift his head.
Tears fell silently to the floor.

Kaguya saw them.

“Majority in favor! Thus, the First Resolution of the World Union is passed!

The target—Japan.
The mission—”

Genbu raised his voice in declaration.

“Japan’s Liberation!”
