Chapter 49: The Rebel Knight

“Lord Odin, I have a matter to discuss regarding the conflict zone in the town of Finn in the southern region…”

“Ah, they still refuse to surrender?”

“Yes. How should we proceed? If you leave it to me, I will…”

Odin leaned back in his chair, folding his hands together.

This was Odin’s office—the military supreme commander’s room.

Sitting with the light streaming in from behind him, the First Prince pondered.

“No. Ever since Father fell ill, the resistance has been far too active. We need to remind them—who the true rulers of this world are, and where they stand.”

A beautiful woman, Odin’s secretary, inquired further.

Despite her beauty, there was a cold, almost cruel air about her.

Her name was Catherine.

“Then…”

The conclusion he reached was—

“The order is: ‘Kill everyone in that region who is not Asgardian.'”

“!? What?! Why?! That’s completely unnecessary!”

“It’s an order. I don’t know the reasoning behind it.”

Kenya was speaking to Nez over a private channel.

Jin and Lielbelt, standing beside him, couldn’t hear the conversation.

Then—

Jin and Lielbert raised their KOGs’ guns.

Kenya caught the movement at the edge of his vision.

He followed their aim—

“Hey… what are you two doing?”

Before them were resistance members with their hands raised in surrender.

Behind them—children.

Their terrified eyes trembled as they huddled together, staring at the towering KOGs.

Jin and Lielbert’s fingers rested on their triggers.

Slowly, they began to squeeze.

“STOP!!!”

“!? Sword?”
“Sword-kun?!”

Kenya slashed through both of their guns.

“What the hell are you two doing?!”

“That’s our line, Sword. We have orders from Odin-sama.”

“That’s right, Sword-kun. Why would you suddenly do this?”

No hesitation.

No doubt.

No emotion.

Their voices carried the tone of someone simply fulfilling a request.

“Why… why were you about to kill them? They’re unarmed!”

Kenya stepped in front of them, shielding the surrendering resistance members.

“Because we’re soldiers. Orders must be followed. Step aside, Sword. You’ve disobeyed a direct order—you’ll face punishment.”

“Sword-kun, why do you care so much? They’re inferiors. If they refuse to obey, they deserve to die. It’s not pleasant, but it’s necessary.”

“…No way… Are you serious?”

Kenya was speechless.

Lielbert, the kind and gentle man he always admired, called non-Asgardians inferior and said killing them was natural.

Jin, the strong-willed warrior he had looked up to, said following orders meant killing without question.

Their words carried no guilt, no second thoughts.

Kenya couldn’t comprehend it.

The two friends he trusted—thought of as good people—

Could believe this, just because of race?

“They’re human too! Don’t kill them!”

Jin stepped closer, patting Kenya’s shoulder through their KOGs.

He opened a private channel.

“You’re tired, Sword. Take a break. We’ll handle it from here. Let’s pretend this never happened. I’ll issue a gag order under my authority.”

Jin walked past him.

His sword was raised.

At its tip—the terrified resistance members behind Kenya.

The blade began to fall.

But instead of blood, what flew was—

A giant metal arm.

There was no doubt who had severed it.

“SWORD!!”

Jin’s KOG’s arm was cleaved off in a single strike.

Kenya’s blade.

The soldiers around them froze.

Nez, still on the line, went silent.

Lielbert, Jin, and the other troops in the battlefield—all saw what had just happened.

Meaning—

“Sword-kun! That… that was treason! Against Lord Odin!”

A direct violation of military law.

In the Asgardian military, royal orders were absolute.

Disobedience was unthinkable.

“Yeah… that’s what I’ve learned over the past six months. But I can’t do it. I can’t just stand by and watch.”

With his back to the resistance fighters—protecting them—

Kenya cut down KOG after KOG, rendering them inoperable.

The Asgardian troops, even the foot soldiers, panicked and fled.

“SWORD!! STOP!! STOP THIS!!”

Jin and Lielbert’s desperate cries no longer reached him.

Kenya heard only one thing—

The voices from that day.

The outstretched hands he couldn’t grasp.

The voices of Azusa, Midori, the helpless civilians, the resistance fighters—

All those killed unjustly.

He knew things like this happened somewhere in the world.

But even so—

“I’m sorry, Jin-san. Lielbert-san.”

Now that he had seen it, now that he knew—

He couldn’t abandon them.

Jin’s voice trembled.

“Are you really serious, Sword-kun…?”

Kenya raised his gun in one hand.

His sword in the other.

Behind him—the people fleeing to safety.

Before him—

The mightiest military force in the world.

“I cannot obey that order.”

“What?! Treason?! Who?!”

The report was immediately relayed to Odin.

“S-Sir, it’s… Sword Sylphid.”

Major Nez reported to Odin over the communication line.

“Sword… the man who was supposed to become Lord’s knight?! Why?! What’s his reason?!”

“We’re not entirely sure. But… he said not to kill the resistance.”

“Hmm… I see.”

(That sounds like him… but he must understand what this means.)

“So? Has the situation been resolved? No matter how strong he is, it’s just one unit. If you overwhelm him with numbers, he should be neutralized quickly.”

“W-Well, the thing is…”

“Is this… your full strength, Sword?”

Jin, along with numerous KOGs, lay in ruins, reduced to piles of scrap metal.

From within his immobilized machine, Jin watched Kenya.

He had been fighting with everything he had, even accepting injuries—accepting the risk of death—just to stop him.

And yet, he couldn’t.

The Asgardian military was the strongest army in the world, its training unmatched.

Even if this force was meant for resistance suppression, it shouldn’t have been something a single unit could handle.

And yet—

One by one, they were rendered combat-incapable.

Not dead—only disabled.

Kenya was holding back—deliberately.

Not a single casualty, on either side, since the moment he turned against them.

Even the resistance fighters and third-class citizens were awed by his inhuman skill and combat prowess.

“Sword-kun! Stop! If you continue, there’s no turning back!”

Inside a disabled KOG, Lielbert desperately tried to convince him.

“I’m sorry, Lielbert-san. I can’t do that.”

Kenya pointed his sword straight ahead and declared—

“Stand down. I won’t harm those who don’t wish to fight!”

The Asgardian army couldn’t stop him.

Except for one person—

A lone boy, who arrived after receiving a report from his subordinates, landing on the battlefield.

“Sigh… My knights always mess up my plans… but,”

The boy smirked.

Was it because he found Sword’s actions a little amusing?

“That’s exactly why I like them.”
