Chapter 42: Reina vs. the Holy Knights

“Oh, come on! Just because she’s cute doesn’t mean we can let this slide!”

“Don’t forget, we’re Holy Knights! Only about twenty people per year make it—the strongest knights of the Empire!”

“Reina-chan, we can’t just let you walk away from this. We need you to take responsibility for that statement.”

“Try saying that after you win.”

“”Huh!?””

(Damn, her trash-talking is insane—completely unintentional, too.)

Reina instinctively provoked her opponents.

To her, she was just stating the truth.

Despite their flashy appearances, these three were undeniably Holy Knights.

Honestly, though? They looked like the kind of disposable side characters who get taken out before the real fight even begins.

Kenya still wasn’t entirely sure of the Holy Knights’ status in this world. From what he had heard earlier, if only ten or twenty were selected per year, that meant there were about 200 to 400 of them in total.

In gaming terms, that put them at just below the Master rank—the top 100 players in each server from the previous world.

In that old world, the Masters were hardcore, no-life gamers who had abandoned reality.

Here, those same people would be regarded as elite warriors.

There was a saying: The higher your rank in the game, the lower your rank in real life.

Kenya knew that all too well—if he hadn’t still been a student, he would’ve been just another unemployed bum.

That said, he did rake in decent prize money from tournaments.

“Alright, I’ll go first. That’s fine, right, Onii-chan?”

“Aha… Haha… Yeah, go ahead. Do whatever you want, little sister.”

“Are you sure about this, Reina? Maybe I should go first and gauge their strength…”

Lielbert hesitated, clearly unsure. But Reina didn’t even acknowledge his concerns.

He was a nice guy, but if Kenya had to guess, his skill level wasn’t that high.

Unless he turned out to be some hidden powerhouse… No, probably not.

He didn’t give off that kind of presence. That Jin guy, on the other hand, looked way stronger.

And so, the two combatants entered the simulator.

Kenya had already given up caring about the outcome.

He just really didn’t like the flashy, overconfident types.

“If I win, Reina-chan, you’re giving me your contact info!”

On the massive monitor, the two mechs appeared.

And there was Colonel Star, cheeks flushed red from drinking.

The countdown began.

This fight would determine how Reina stacked up against real Holy Knights.

How much had she grown?

How vast was this world?

3… 2… 1… FIGHT!

Reina WIN!

Reina WIN!

Reina WIN!

“Wha—?! No way…”

“She’s still a student?!”

“She’s already at mid-tier Holy Knight level!”

The flashy trio had been completely wiped out.

(The world is so vast? Meh… Holy Knights seem kinda weak, honestly.)

…No, that wasn’t true.

It wasn’t that they were weak—Reina and Kenya were just too strong.

The Holy Knights were definitely within the top 1% of players.

It’s just that Kenya was within the top 0.001%.

Even though she didn’t completely overwhelm them, Reina had still clearly outclassed them.

It turned out these three were rookie Holy Knights—the weakest among their rank.

But even then, they weren’t the kind of opponents an apprentice should be able to defeat so easily.

“And now it’s your turn. What will you do?”

“My stomach kinda hurts… I think I’ll pass.”

With a perfectly serious expression, Zoid claimed he had a stomachache and backed out of the fight.

Total lie, but a wise choice. A strategic retreat.

If you don’t fight, you can’t lose.

(Ah, now that’s a nobleman for you.)

“Hahaha! The Silver Ice Princess is still as terrifying as ever!”

Colonel Star burst into laughter, slapping his knee.

“I remember when she first got here—she wrecked a senior knight on day one!”

The Holy Knights didn’t look angry or frustrated.

They just stared at Reina in shock and awe.

She had proven the gap between them.

(Reina’s really gotten strong… Has she caught up to me?)

After training with Kenya in the simulator nearly every day, Reina had reached mid-tier Holy Knight level.

Among students, she was likely at the very top.

Kenya didn’t know how strong the other students were, but if Holy Knights represented the peak, then Reina had already surpassed that level.

“Man, that was fun to watch. What’d you think, Jin?”

Beside the colonel, watching the battle with sharp eyes, stood a deeply-featured, athletic young man.

His name was Jin.

“Honestly, I’m surprised. I thought entertaining the Colonel’s hobbies would be a waste of time, but this might actually be fun. Did you plan this?”

“I figured that if she kept growing at that rate, she’d reach Holy Knight level eventually. And we do have our reputation to uphold, don’t we? Can we really let a transfer student be the strongest in this school, Jin?”

“Hah. No, that won’t do. My father would be furious.”

With that, the man called Jin stepped forward, standing before Reina.

He flashed a casual, charming smile as he spoke to her.

“Reina… That’s your name, right? Would you do me the honor of a match?”

“Of course.”

Kenya watched from the sidelines as the handsome man smiled gently at Reina.

(Why does it look so damn natural when he does it? It’s pissing me off…)

“And one more thing—if I win, will you go on a date with me? You’ve caught my interest. You’re beautiful, and your fighting style is truly mesmerizing.”

“Huh?”

(What?!)

Both Reina and Kenya froze in confusion.

But Kenya caught on a second later—and immediately fumed.

(Damn pretty boy! Get wrecked by Reina and learn your place!)

Kenya shot Jin a glare sharp enough to kill.

It was obvious to anyone watching—Kenya was seething.

Because he was actually in love with Reina.

Jin had just casually dropped a cringeworthy pick-up line, yet somehow, it didn’t feel out of place at all. That made it even more annoying.

Kenya hoped Jin would get crushed and regret ever opening his mouth.

“Understood. Then let’s fight.”

With that, Reina agreed to the match—effectively agreeing to a date if she lost.

But Kenya couldn’t imagine her losing.

That said, something about Jin felt… off.

Despite watching Reina’s overwhelming victories earlier, he still challenged her.

Neither Kenya nor Reina fully grasped what that meant.

Right now, Reina was at the absolute pinnacle of student fighters.

Only a handful in the entire world could match her.

And as for people who could actually beat her? That was questionable.

Unless they brought in the strongest student in the world, there was no way she would lose.

“…Ah, I almost forgot to introduce myself.”

“I am Jin Halbert, of a baron’s household in this country. And—”

And then, he said it.

“I am the Holy Knights’ Commander.”

He wasn’t just the strongest student.

He was the strongest in the world.
