Chapter 40: The Strongest of This Generation

“Thank you for flying with Asgard Airlines today. Our aircraft will be landing shortly, so please fasten your seatbelts.”

Kenya and Reina took their seats.

Their journey through the sky had been uneventful, a peaceful trip.

However, looking around, nearly everyone had golden hair—Asgardians.

With their silver hair, Reina and Kenya drew a few curious glances, but nothing more.

Or rather, it would be more accurate to say that everyone was too captivated by Reina’s beauty to care.

(How about that? My little sister—well, not by blood, but still—she’s ridiculously cute, right?)

“Let’s drop off our luggage at home first. Enrollment starts tomorrow, right?”

“Yes, as transfer students.”

And so, the two arrived in the Asgard Empire.

Reina walked ahead without hesitation, while Kenya surveyed his surroundings.

(So this is the Asgard Empire… It’s nothing like Japan now.)

Everywhere he looked, Asgardians.

Once they stepped out of the airport, they were greeted by rows of luxurious mansions and towering skyscrapers, as if only the wealthy lived here.

This was the capital, Valhalla—the city where Asgard’s upper class resided.

It was comparable to Tokyo in Japan.

Kenya didn’t know much about this world, but even at a glance, it was clear this was a major metropolis.

Among the dazzling neon-lit streets, Kenya and Reina walked.

(It feels like Kabukicho at night… Not that I’ve ever been there.)

“Ken… Onii-chan? Are you coming?”

“A-Ah, sorry.”

By now, night had already fallen.

Guided by Reina, they headed toward Sieg’s estate.

Though streetlights illuminated the way, the night roads remained dark.

As they walked through the dimly lit streets, they soon entered an even brighter area, glowing with neon lights.

It was obvious at a glance—it was an entertainment district.

A nightlife hub, a fixture of any big city.

“The map says we go straight through here.”

“We’re passing through… this place?”

Reina marched straight through the entertainment district, unfazed.

It was as if she was walking through an empty wasteland, with Kenya merely following behind.

He would be lying if he said he wasn’t curious.

But even from a distance, he understood what this district was and what went on here.

Realizing that, he lost any enthusiasm he might have had.

“Hey there, half-blood bro! How about a round? Real cheap!”

As expected, a street hustler called out to him.

His hair was black—likely an Asian.

Looking around, Kenya saw many women in revealing outfits, making eye contact to lure in customers.

The old him might have stared with wide eyes.

There were some undeniably beautiful women—so much so that for a brief moment, he thought damn, that’s hot.

But he couldn’t bring himself to think that way anymore.

“Japanese… and other ethnicities too… That must mean—”

“Yes, they are people whose countries were taken. Third-class citizens.”

The people here were Asgard Empire’s so-called third-class citizens.

That meant they had no freedom to choose their jobs; they were assigned roles and had to obey.

Even marriage, freedom, and emotions were stripped from them.

“1,000 rubies… That’s about the same as the curry powder I bought at the supermarket.”

Asgard’s currency.

Judging by the price of curry at the supermarket, rubies and yen weren’t too different in value.

On one of the signs Kenya saw, “1,000 rubies per session” was written.

That alone told him everything about how these people were treated.

Then, suddenly, a hand grabbed his arm, and a soft chest was pressed against him.

“What do you say, big brother? I’ve got no customers today… Help me out, please? Otherwise, I’ll get beaten.”

“I’m sorry…”

“Oh, you’ve already got a reservation, huh? My bad.”

For a second, his heart skipped a beat.

But as soon as she noticed Reina, the woman backed away.

She was about his age—so beautiful that if she had been in his class, he would have fallen for her immediately. She could have been an idol.

As she turned to leave, Kenya caught a glimpse of something.

Hidden under her makeup was a large bruise on her back.

“This place is awful.”

He muttered.

“I’m sorry… I should have considered this. Let’s take another route.”

“No, it’s fine. It just reminded me why I have to fight.”

What if Kaguya had lost?

What if she hadn’t risen as a resistance fighter?

That girl could have been her.

If it had been of her own free will, Kenya wouldn’t have thought twice.

People could choose their jobs—there was no shame in any profession.

But in this city, in this seemingly pristine, well-maintained nation…

Everything was built on the suffering of others.

All the food, clothing, and shelter—it was sustained by these enslaved people.

And someone was getting richer from it.

Even now, the empire continued expanding its military, increasing its slave count, proving that human greed knew no bounds.

——————————-

“We’ve arrived.”

Finally, the two reached Sieg’s estate.

Exhausted from the journey, they retired for the night.

Kenya was given a room—likely Sieg’s own.

Reina had her own separate room.

“Alright, good night. We wake up at seven tomorrow.”

“Yes, good night.”

Kenya lay down on his bed.

Despite the house having been left empty for some time, it was surprisingly clean and free of dust.

(How am I supposed to contact Kaguya? I asked Sieg, but he said he wouldn’t know since we’re enemies.)

There was no way to reach her.

He didn’t even know where in the Asian Union she was, and that country was vast.

Asgard was even bigger, so Kenya had no clear sense of its scale.

It was like trying to find someone in Asia just by name—without any means of contact, during wartime, with no access to government resources.

Honestly, he had assumed it would be easy.

But thinking about it now, he realized he had no way of reaching her.

“Maybe I should ask Lord. That guy’s smart—he’ll come up with something.”

With that thought, Kenya let sleep take him.

Tomorrow would likely be the start of grueling days ahead.

The Next Day

“Good morning. Breakfast is ready.”

“Huh? You made this for me?”

“Yes, I enjoy cooking. I bought the ingredients this morning.”

“Oh, I see… Thanks. I’ll dig in!”

When Kenya woke up, he found that Reina had prepared breakfast.

He had always wondered—why does Reina like cooking?

It was such an unexpected contrast. If this were a game, he would have thought it was just a character trait designed to be appealing.

But in this world, everything had a reason.

There must be something behind Reina’s love for cooking, too.

After breakfast, Kenya and Reina headed to school together.

The silver-haired siblings were making their way to the elite pilot academy of the Asgard Empire, located in the heart of Valhalla, the capital.

The school was called exactly what one might expect—Valhalla Training Academy.

Back in his previous world, Japan’s top university was in Tokyo, so they just called it “Todai” (Tokyo University). This naming style seemed to be the same here.

“What kind of school is it, Reina?”

“Hmm… I don’t know all the details myself, but…”

From what Reina knew, it was on a completely different level than schools in the empire’s colonies.

Only the most powerful nobles, elite individuals, and the most talented students from across the Asgard Empire—the world’s largest nation in both territory and population—were allowed to attend.

“Wow, that’s amazing. It’s leagues above schools in Japan.”

“Yes, the scale of this place is beyond comparison. It produces more Holy Knights than any other institution.”

Even the front gate alone looked ridiculously expensive.

It was so polished and shiny that Kenya wondered if it was made entirely of gold.

“Let’s head to the faculty office first. Father said he already made arrangements for us.”

As they walked through the campus, they passed countless Asgardians chatting and enjoying their school life.

Kenya thought to himself that it felt more like a university than a high school.

Silver hair wasn’t all that rare here, so most students didn’t pay much attention to them. Instead, the male students were buzzing about Reina, commenting on how cute she was and wishing they could get her contact info.

“Excuse me. We are from the Sylphid family.”

“Hm? Oh! You’re finally here! Come, come! Over here!”

As soon as they stepped into the faculty office, a loud voice called out to them.

A middle-aged man, around his fifties, was waving them over energetically.

He had a rough, battle-worn appearance—an eyepatch over one eye and a massive scar across his face.

But despite his intimidating looks, his beaming smile and enthusiastic waving made him seem oddly endearing.

“It’s been a while, Colonel Star. I’m Reina Sylphid.”

(Oh, so Reina knows him.)

“Ahh, Reina! Last time I saw you, you were just a kid! Look at you now, all grown up. Is that fool still stationed in Area 13?”

“Father is responsible for overseeing that region.”

“I see, I see… I’d love to see him again sometime. And you must be the rumored one?”

“Nice to meet you. I’m Sword Sylphid.”

“Good to meet you, too. I’m Star Friedrich. You can call me Colonel Star or just Star—whatever you like. Never thought that idiot had a secret kid. When he suddenly retired, I figured something was up. You’re a half-blood, huh? Don’t look a thing like him… But I suppose I shouldn’t pry too much into family matters. Forget I said anything.”

(Well, of course I don’t look like him. I’m not really his son.)

Colonel Star quickly wrapped up the introductions and stood up to guide them to their classroom.

Kenya could sense from his mannerisms that he was a good person.

He was probably an old acquaintance of Sieg, their guardian. As they walked, Star spoke up.

“Sieg was one of my students. I was a rookie instructor back then, but he was exceptionally gifted—easily the strongest Holy Knight of his generation.”

“Really?”

“Yep. So, should I expect the same from you? Maybe not as strong as Sieg, but you should aim for the rank of Holy Knight, too! Gahaha!”

“Haha… I’ll do my best.”

“Alright, we’re here. This will be your new classroom starting today. Sieg told me you’re strong, so I pulled some strings to place you in this class. This year is something special. I’ve never seen a batch of students this talented before.”

With that, Colonel Star pushed open the door.

Inside were several students, each radiating a sharp, intense aura.

Their expressions made it clear—they weren’t going to be easy to deal with.

They stared at Reina and Kenya with scrutinizing eyes.

“Welcome, Sword. Welcome, Reina.

This is Special Class A—where the strongest of this generation gather.”
