Chapter 20. arms dealer goliath (2)
–How could I have …… forgotten?
Staring silently at the sword before him, Elliot asked himself.
As he thought back to the day he got the holy sword and the year that followed, he felt a chill slowly creep up his spine.
- I thought I had lost it, so I didn’t even bother to look for it…
Once upon a time, it was something important.
But the honor of obtaining the holy sword and the elation of being able to defeat the immortal undead with such ease was too much. As he became absorbed in those glorious and proud days, the loss was pushed to the back of his mind, and eventually he no longer even thought about it.
Elliot turned his eyes away from the sword, trying to escape the nauseating feeling welling up in his chest.
He felt Goliath’s eyes on him from the front, and without looking up, he simply said the truth.
“I used to use this sword before I got the …… holy sword. I thought I had lost it.”
“Was that so?”
When Goliath replied, his emotionless, flat voice lingered in his ears.
“This is by no means your run-of-the-mill sword. The sword is not only beautifully made, but also the shape of the hilt and the meticulous attention to detail. Then there is the distinctive pommel of the hilt. If I had to guess, I’d say this is the work of Sir Dolph of the Hidden Village .”
“……, the Hidden village ……?”
“Oh? You didn’t know where this sword was made?”
Goliath’s eyes narrowed and his gaze was directed at him, as if appraising him, and at that moment Elliot found it almost suffocating.*
“This sword was given to me by a …… stranger.”
He replied, stifling the bitterness.
Goliath, with a thin, emotionless smile on his face, picked up the sword again and gently touched the now nicked and distorted blade with his fingertips.
“Hmm, I see… ……. Well, let’s get back to the main topic, shall we? After all, you want to do something about this, don’t you?”
“Can it be fixed?”
“Well, I can’t answer that question yet. Even if I have our craftsmen re-forge the chipped parts, and the shape of the sword can be adjusted,……, it will not be restored to the way it was as a vessel.”
Elliot bit his lip when he heard this, but Goliath’s smile deepened as he continued, trying to comfort him.
“If we entrust it to Master Dolph, the sword’s maker, who I mentioned earlier, then perhaps it will be possible.”
“Then, ……! Where is this hidden place ……?”
Elliot finally looked up and asked pleadingly.
“…If I recall correctly, it was about two days in a horse-drawn carriage leaving from the main gate of the royal capital.”
As soon as they heard that, Elliot and Lloyd stood up, and Goliath added with a sidelong glance.
“Just because we are able to restore the appearance of the vessel, there is no guarantee that everything will return to the way it was. Well, still, you can’t just do nothing, I guess? …… if you are unable to meet with them, please come back then.”
Taking Goliath’s words as a sign of concern, the two men said their thanks and left the place.
After the guests had left the small room, a young butler entered carrying a tea set. As he drank the tea that had been prepared for him, Goliath asked the butler a question.
“Have there been any changes in the merchants who have been coming and going to Mr. Dolph’s village of late?”
“Yes, Sir. The main ones who are invited are still mostly food and general merchandise merchants, though. It seems that the number of craftsmen at the blacksmith village has been increasing recently.”
“It’s not surprising, given the circumstances that led to the appearance of a Holy Sword. …… Oh, shoot. I was careless. I only told them that it was the ‘hidden village.’”
The young butler laughed dismissively at Goliath, who held his head in an exaggerated but nonchalant manner.
“It was on purpose, Goliath-sama. You don’t think for a minute that they will ever make it to that village, do you?”
“Well, I don’t know. His companion still looked promising.”
Goliath leaned back in the sofa and relaxed, a look of amusement on his face.
“Those who are worthy of being invited to the village will recognize it as a common sight there, and will not question it, simply calling it the ‘Blacksmith Village.’ Those who are not invited, however, cannot even find it, so they call it “Hidden Village.” I forgot to mention that. Well, ……, I’m sure I’ll get a chance to apologize soon.”
