Chapter 99: Forming a Team to Rescue
Arthur Pendragon, Merlin, and Yuna were all taken aback at the sight of the newcomer.
“Arthur—little brother!” Yuna exclaimed. As the princess of the Starlight Empire, she naturally knew Prince Arthur, the third prince of the Dawn Empire, and their relationship had always been fairly cordial, if not warm.
In the darkness, Arthur’s figure shone with an almost blinding brilliance. The golden radiance of his sword seemed like sunlight breaking through the first rays of dawn, banishing the shadows that clung to the surroundings.
With each flash of his blade, the corrupted fairies that dared to approach were struck down one by one, their twisted forms dissipating like mist under the morning sun.
“Stay close to me, everyone!” Arthur’s voice rang out, clear and resolute, carrying with it an unshakable aura of courage. Behind him, his classmates followed, each clutching an assortment of weapons. Though anxiety flickered across their faces, Arthur’s presence instilled in them a fierce, undaunted spirit.
“Yuna, are there students in the library who have fallen unconscious?” Arthur quickly moved to stand before Yuna and Merlin, his back radiating an overwhelming sense of security that made anyone nearby feel shielded from harm.
Yuna nodded. “There are indeed quite a few corrupted fairies inside the library, and many students have fallen into unconsciousness. Fortunately, these fairies are manifestations of the students’ negative emotions—if they were anything else…” Her voice trailed off, the unspoken threat hanging heavily in the air.
“I understand. I’ll immediately organize our classmates to rescue the students in the library,” Arthur said, his tone firm and decisive, as if injecting courage into everyone around him. He turned to Merlin and said, “Brother Merlin, thank you for protecting Yuna. You’ve seen the situation for yourself. I am organizing our classmates to fight these corrupted fairies and ensure the safe evacuation of the unconscious and injured students from Siyue’s domain. I hope you will join us and leave this place together.”
“I should say it’s actually Senpai who has been protecting me. Though I wish to help rescue the others, I must find Stacie. She is likely the source of all this chaos, and perhaps once we find her, everything can be resolved.” Merlin’s voice betrayed a selfishness, not out of cruelty but necessity; he prioritized the one who had always been by his side over others he barely knew, feeling the weight of each passing moment as a threat to her safety.
Yuna moved closer to the two young men, glancing at their handsome faces and feeling a brief, dizzying flutter in her chest. Arthur exuded the charm of a sunlit youth, while Merlin had the calm elegance of a refined young man. She tapped her own cheeks lightly, scolding herself inwardly for letting her thoughts wander at a moment like this.
“Arthur,” Yuna said, “I plan to go with Merlin to find Stacie. I truly believe she is the source of all this. Why don’t you come with us? With your strength, you could resolve this situation quickly.”
Arthur shook his head at Yuna’s suggestion. Though he admired the determination of Merlin and Yuna, he knew the current circumstances allowed no room for distraction.
“Yuna, I don’t fully understand why you think Stacie is the root of this, though perhaps you are correct,” Arthur said, his voice steady, yet his eyes betrayed a hint of worry. “But right now, there are too many students who need my protection—especially those who are injured or unconscious. Their safety must be my top priority. Forgive me, but I cannot accompany you.”
A trace of disappointment flickered across Yuna’s face, yet she understood. Compared to an uncertain source of chaos, this young, compassionate king preferred to focus on saving as many students as possible.
Arthur turned his gaze back to his classmates, who were still engaged in battle with the corrupted fairies. “You two go find Stacie. Once I have brought all the students out of this domain, I will join you as quickly as I can.”
At that moment, someone tapped Arthur on the shoulder. He turned to see a black-haired youth standing beside him.
The boy’s frame was lean but athletic, his muscles balanced and poised, giving off an impression of both agility and stability. His hair, dark as ink, fell slightly tousled yet stylish, framing a sharply defined face. His nose was straight, his features precise, and he wore a dark, fitted cloth outfit that was light yet durable, perfect for swift movements in battle. A sword hung at his waist, its scabbard engraved with intricate patterns that hinted at an ancient and mysterious lineage.
“Arthur,” the boy said, “I overheard your conversation. I believe a few of us can help Merlin and Yuna Senpai.” He gestured to the group behind him: a muscular young man and two girls standing together.
Arthur recognized the boy immediately. He was Gray Carl, a first-year student and the only one among his peers capable of matching Arthur in swordplay—a prodigious talent of common birth, a sword saint’s heir.
Behind Carl stood a towering figure, nearly two meters tall, exuding an aura of safety and power. Broad shoulders and hands like iron clamps suggested he could lift any burden effortlessly. His short black hair moved slightly in the breeze, and his face was set with a calm determination, his sharp jawline and deep-set eyes commanding respect. This was Alexis Conte, Carl’s steadfast companion.
The two girls were equally distinctive. The one with chestnut hair cut short had a gentle, warm appearance, her clear eyes radiating a soothing presence capable of comforting those around her. She was Carl’s childhood friend, Shirley Turs.
Beside her stood a seemingly weary girl, her high ponytail swaying slightly, round glasses framing eyes tinged with fatigue, and freckles dotting her cheeks. Her outfit was casual and accented with peculiar accessories, hinting at her unique personality. This was the first-year prodigy in alchemy, Dilia Wilcotes.
Seeing Carl and his companions, Arthur knew that time was of the essence. He nodded. “I trust in your abilities, but be cautious. If Stacie truly is the source, she could be extremely dangerous.”
“That doesn’t mean we can just ignore her, right? I believe Yuna Senpai can lead us well,” Carl said, turning to Yuna and Merlin. “Where should we head?”
Yuna and Merlin did not refuse their offer. Yuna pointed toward the distant faculty dormitory. “We’re going to the faculty dormitory. That’s where Stacie lives, and it was also the center of Siyue’s domain we just passed through.”
“Then let’s waste no time. Alexis and I will lead the way; you provide support. We’ll reach the dormitory swiftly!” Carl drew his sword, exchanged a glance with Alexis, and surged forward with remarkable speed.
With Carl and his team joining them, the corrupted fairies along the path posed no further threat. As the group pressed onward, the silhouette of the faculty dormitory gradually became clear. The ancient building loomed with solemn grandeur, yet the air around it was thick with tension, as though foretelling the danger that awaited.
The area surrounding the dormitory was eerily quiet, with not a single corrupted fairy in sight. But it was precisely this unsettling calm that made Merlin and the others feel the danger looming ever closer.
