Chapter 173: Establishment of the City of Nanashia

Days in the Other World: 420 – 141,496pt

Since starting the relocation process to the city two weeks ago, we’ve finally made progress in accepting the snake people. Although slightly behind schedule, there were no significant disturbances or complications along the way.

Meanwhile, the city’s development has been progressing smoothly, and almost all of the villagers have begun their new lives in Nanasia. Those remaining in the village are primarily myself, Tsubaki, Sakura, and some of the rabbit beastmen like Rado. They seem determined not to leave my side, saying something like, “We can’t stray too far from the village chief.” I appreciate their sentiment, and since moving to the city isn’t mandatory, I let them do as they please.

“Snapenir, all preparations on our end are complete. Please start the move to Nanasia.”

“I see, so the time has finally come. We’re also ready here; we’ll head there immediately.”

By now, all of them have come to Nanasia at least once. Naturally, they’ve completed their humanization, and their health checkups went smoothly. Since their new homes are ready, all that’s left is to transport their belongings.

Regarding the level decrease phenomenon during humanization, we have a general understanding of how it works. They retain about 70% of the experience gained from monster hunting, while only the curse from the Moon Goddess disappears.

Out of the 1000 people migrating this time, there are 100 classified as warriors, whose average level has decreased to around 90. The rest of the snake people are mostly in their early 50s.

“Is everyone ready? They should be arriving soon, so let’s stick to the plan. Haruka and I will handle the reevaluation, while Tsubaki will take care of the guidance afterward.”

“””Yes!”””

First, we completed the reception at the Village chief’s Mansion and conducted the final loyalty confirmation. The plan was to transport the relocation baggage after guiding them to their residences. Since there will be several back and forth trips for the move, I wanted them to memorize their homes first.

—

In just a few minutes, the teleportation circle in the village chief’s mansion garden began to shine. It seems the first group has arrived. About 30 figures are visible around the teleportation circle.

“Village Chief, we’re counting on you from today. We, the snake people, pledge to devote ourselves to the development of the village and the city.”

“Yeah, I’m looking forward to it. Welcome to the city of Nanasia; we sincerely welcome the inclusion of the snake people.”

Led by Chief Snapenir, the teleportation circle continued to glow without rest, and snake people continued to arrive one after another. Since they don’t have much luggage, and with the help of Hayato and Melinard, we should finish transporting them by the end of today.

“Keisuke, I’m done here. All appraisal results are normal! As expected, loyalty seems to be on the rise across the board.”

“Yeah, seems like there’s no need to worry about betrayal. In fact, I have a feeling it’ll increase even more after tomorrow’s church visit.”

After about two hours of reception, Haruka and I were temporarily relieved of duty. With no troubles at all and a remarkably high loyalty, we were relieved.

“Um, there’s a welcome party tomorrow, right? The village cafeteria won’t be enough… so where will it be held?”

“I’m thinking of holding it in the lord’s mansion garden. It can accommodate settlers, and with the teleportation circle there, it’ll be easy to bring in food, right?”

“Ah, I see. Well then, I’ll help out over there!”

“Tomorrow’s the start of a three-day holiday, after all. Let’s make it a grand celebration, also serving as the city’s establishment ceremony.”

“Got it! Well then, see you later!”

With a population of 4,000 and a cityscape to accommodate them, the presence of a sturdy defensive wall, and the establishment of the lord’s mansion, it’s about time to call it a city.

The life in the other world that began with just the three of us

Meeting companions, developing the village, advancing into a town, and various other events… all of these somehow led to the development of a single city.

In the end, it seems my occupation will continue as “village chief.”

The next afternoon—

Currently, all residents have gathered in the Lord’s Mansion garden. With 2,530 villagers, 1,196 settlers, there are a total of 3,726 people in Nanasia.

In terms of species, the snake people overwhelmingly dominate, but that doesn’t seem to bother anyone much. After all, apart from differences in animal ears and tails, the appearance of each beast person isn’t that different. Of course, this is just the perspective of a Japanese person.

At any rate, the city of Nanashia has become the only place where all beast races live together.

<Coexistence of all species>

It sounds very appropriate, so maybe something will happen? I secretly hoped so, but there have been no changes in my status. Well, since there are no indigenous humanoids, strictly speaking, it may not be considered all species… and the likelihood of kingdom citizens coming here is low.

While pondering over such matters, the self-introductions of the snake people ended, and the inaugural speech of the new lord began.

“My name is Drago. By the orders of the village chief… though it’s a bit strange, I’ve been entrusted with the lordship of Nanasia. I’ll be assisted by Wolfox. Everyone, please continue to support us.”

The majority of the inhabitants are beastmen. Furthermore, most of them have a background in emigrating because of the Japanese. Given these circumstances, I didn’t want to make it a city where Japanese people were the top people, even if only on the surface.

However, everyone here knows very well who the de facto representative is. This is just for form’s sake

Amid thunderous applause, Drago’s speech continues.

“Let me make it clear, I am merely the nominal lord here. Of course, I will fulfill my duties, but essentially, I’m just like any other villager. I want you to understand that this personnel change is in consideration of our Beastman residents.”

“My name is Wolfox. I will also be assisting you. I’m also just a hired hand, but I’ll do my best for the town. The administration and military structure will continue as before, so please continue to support us.”

Both of them were straightforward from the start. Well, that was the agreement we made, so it couldn’t be helped. At first, Drago hesitated, but he agreed, saying, “I’ll repay the favor while you’re still alive.” With that settled, I can rest easy for another hundred years or so.

“Now, today is Nanasia’s founding anniversary! While we don’t have a king yet, we do have a village chief. Let’s hear a few words of gratitude from him.”

With these words, Drago gestured, and without any specific direction, I racked my brains as I made my way to the stage.

“Thank you, everyone. I’m Keisuke, the village chief. You all probably already know, but Nanasia will not invade other countries. However, if provoked, we will respond with full force. The safety of our village and town is our top priority, and I ask for your cooperation with this in mind.”

Oh my, everyone is silent, staring at me. Usually, Rudrug would be the one to heckle in these situations, but it seems there’s none of that today.

“Uh, well, let me lay out our policy or goal… In the future, we’re considering having the Goddess Nanasia descend. At that time, we expect a divine message or request from the Goddess.”

With a pause for emphasis, I continued.

“You won’t face any consequences if you choose not to accept it. Please consider it carefully and make your decision. You can rest assured that we have obtained a guarantee from the Goddess.”

Everyone remained quiet, seemingly contemplating the content of the divine message. It unavoidably sounds mysterious, but there’s nothing more I can say. Nevertheless, I felt it would be insincere to remain silent, so I decided to reveal it at this point.

As I was about to leave the stage, Drago interjected with a comment.

“Hold on, Chief. Do you know all the details of that message?”

“Oh, I’m the only one who knows at the moment. I can’t talk about it until the Goddess descends due to the constraints. But let me emphasize again, it’s not a bad thing.”

“Hmm… I’d really like to agree with it by all means. How about you, Snapenir?”

“Of course. If it’s the wish of the Goddess, I’ll gladly obey.”

“Chief, can you elaborate a bit more?”

(Well, I’m not sure how to convey it…)

“I apologize for being vague. But… everyone here will know what it is once they become villagers. So, I’d like everyone to become villagers as soon as possible.”

“I see… then I’ll do my best too. I’ll ask for everyone’s cooperation.”

With that, the lord’s announcement concluded, and the party transitioned into full swing.

Of course, I was bombarded with questions afterward, but as usual, I stumbled over my words at crucial points. Still, there seemed to be some interest, and everyone was generally positive about the Goddess’s descent.

The party will continue for another two days, so I intend to socialize with as many people as possible. Recently, the loyalty of the settlers has been steadily increasing, so the day when I can talk to everyone doesn’t seem too far off.
