Chapter 123: Commencement of a Large-Scale Operation!

Another World Life – Day 292 – Faith Points: 2622 pts

Four days have passed since the recent general assembly, and today marks the beginning of a new development project.

During these last three days, I’ve been earning points by setting up “Teleportation Magic Circles” at the planned development site in the Eastern Forest Dungeon. From now on, we’ll be shuttling back and forth between the village and the development area every day. Considering the time and effort it takes for these travels, this was the top priority task.

During that time, I went to the edge of the forest to set up protective barriers. With these barriers in place, the only way to enter the village is through the trade route flanked by barriers on both sides. Regardless of when a large army might attack, there is nothing to fear. Well, maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement…

Anyway, like this, I’ve finally occupied the vast remains of the eastern and western mountain ranges, measuring 30 kilometers east to west and 20 kilometers north to south.

(Alright! I’ve come this far. Surrounded by an impenetrable defensive barrier, it feels like I’ve become the lord of a whole nation – seriously, it’s amazing.)

Despite saying, “I don’t need a kingdom; the village is enough,” here I am, changing my mind casually, being the carefree old man that I am.

Now, the first step of the development is to establish a provisional base. We need space for the teleportation magic circles, universal storage, and a place to stockpile the harvested timber.

In the village, there’s plenty of well-dried timber available. Eventually, we’ll transport the locally harvested wood back to the village and use what’s there for the development area.

“Alright, let’s get this done in one go! Everyone, don’t move at all. This isn’t a joke! You will really die!”

With that declaration from Sakura…

*Vroom!* She unleashed a water magic jet with a deafening roar. The laser-like jet of high-pressure water easily pierced through the surrounding trees.

Compared to when I first arrived in this world, this power was on a completely different level.

A few moments later, there were dull thuds and tremors, like “thud” and “thunk.”

“Alright, it’s okay. Village Chief, please.”

Following Sakura’s instructions, I expanded and fixed the protective barrier. Immediately afterward, as I deactivated it, the surroundings were filled with an expanse of tree stumps as far as the eye could see.

“Just one strike did this… I can’t escape from Sakura anymore. I feel like I’m about to be sliced into pieces.”

“It’s about 30 meters in each direction after the first strike. Technically, it’s a fan shape.”

“I won’t deny the slicing part.”

“Well, I suppose it’s possible. I could even make it more powerful.”

“I’m sorry, Rado. Even though it used to be a settlement.”

Naturally, there was a settlement where Rado and the others lived. But with this single strike, it had been blown to smithereens.

“Why bring it up now? We are residents of Nanashi Village. We don’t have any regrets.”

“That’s right, no regrets. Okay, let’s keep expanding like this!”

Today, those present included me, Sakura, Roa, and Kyoko, along with the members of the dungeon party. As an exception, Hayato and the others were focusing on leveling up.

We continued our work, and everything was going remarkably smoothly.

Sakura and I removed the tree, while Rado and the others followed, clearing away the tree stumps. There was no need to dig around the stumps or soften the soil with earth magic. All we had to do was forcefully pull them out with our overwhelming strength. Even now, there were resounding and resolute sounds like “snap” and “crunch.”

After removing the tree stumps, Roa and Kyoko used earth magic to level the ground.

By late afternoon, we had created a vast cleared area measuring 300 meters in every direction. In less than a day, we had expanded to almost the same size as Nanashi Village, which was an achievement that would have been unthinkable in the early days of our arrival.

“Hey, everyone. The sun is setting soon, so we’ll wrap it up for today.”

“Good job. We’ve made great progress.”

“You were amazing, Haruka. Having enhanced physical abilities really makes a difference.”

“It’s totally different now. The power of learning abilities is awesome!”

“That’s right. It’s great that you gained abilities beyond your expectations.”

“Yes, I’m really happy!”

Recently, Haruka learned the skill “Acquisition,” which she acquired when her Advanced Appraisal reached level 4. It allows her to learn a part of the skills she appraises, and as long as she can visually identify the target, she can swap skills at any time. Furthermore, she can independently level up the skills she acquires. It’s quite the match for my “Imitation” ability. The only drawback is that she can’t acquire unique skills. Well, if she could do that… Haruka would become the world’s strongest.

We set up protective barriers at the center of the development area, installed “Teleportation Magic Circles” and “Universal Storage,” and configured the material transfer settings. With the barriers at the edge of the forest and the ones at both ends of the trade route, we expanded our territory quite a bit. Even so, we still have 600 square meters of expansion space left. With this much, we shouldn’t have to worry for a while, and it’s also convenient to be able to allocate faith points elsewhere.

On the second day of development, in addition to yesterday’s members, Rudrug and the construction team have joined us. There are seven artisans, including five architects, in the construction team.

Meanwhile, in the village, the women like Natsuki and the craftswomen are processing building materials. Supplies are still being sent continuously.

“Hey, Village Chief, are you sure this is okay? Building right in the middle like this. This will become the city center, right?”

“Yeah, it’s fine. Once this area develops, I plan to demolish the tenements and construct the main facilities of the city. Well, that’s a long way off, though.”

“I see. Then, please make sure to provide clear instructions for the city’s layout and roads. We also have to secure the traffic routes since we’ll be transporting materials.”

“Understood. For now, feel free to do as you like. I hope you can make it a structure where as many people as possible can sleep and stay.”

“Got it. Leave it to us! Alright, everyone, give it your all!”

“Alright!”

Enthusiastically, with Rudrug at the forefront, they will be mainly responsible for constructing the tenements, along with a roofed dining hall and toilets. We’ll leave the rest to them. These are just temporary accommodations until the refugees become self-reliant, so as long as they don’t collapse, it’s fine.

(If refugees don’t come after this… No, don’t think about it. Just keep pushing forward.)

It’s been about 20 days since I heard about the commotion between the Empire and the Beastman Nation, and there’s still no additional information. Occasionally, I wonder if I’ve acted too hastily and get worried.

(If nothing happens, I’ll think about it when the time comes. In the worst-case scenario, there’s the Beastman Nation’s dungeon… No, my inner demon lord’s blood…)

Well, I’ll deal with whatever comes. I’ll gather my spirits and continue to work on the development today.
