Chapter 26: Please take care of me
“Today was so much fun! I’m really glad we could all hang out together. This might’ve actually been the first time I’ve hung out with multiple friends like that.”
After parting ways with everyone and finishing up what I needed to do at home, I relaxed on the sofa, reminiscing about the day.
Ping! A notification sound rang out.
“Ah, looks like Kaguya-chan is going to stream a game now. I’ve gotta watch!”
I’m subscribed to Hoshizuki Kaguya-chan’s channel, and I have notifications turned on for when she goes live.
“Heeey, it’s Hoshizuki Kaguya! Today I’ll be playing ‘Undead in the Bed’!”
“Oh, so she’s playing Undead in the Bed today. Kaguya-chan’s really good at escaping.”
Undead in the Bed is an asymmetrical survival horror game where one player is the “Horror” (a ghost) and four players are “Survivors” trying to avoid getting caught and killed. It’s packed with suspenseful moments and has become a popular staple for livestreams.
“Today I thought I’d try something different and play as the Horror.”
“Huh? Kaguya-chan usually plays as a Survivor. That’s rare…”
Looking at the comments, lots of people seemed to feel the same as me.
That’s unusual
Has she ever played Horror before?
I wouldn’t mind getting caught by Kaguya-chan!
Hope she’ll be okay…
“You know, I’m actually pretty good at playing the Horror too? Plus, Kaguya feels like chasing someone down and catching them today. Fufufu.”
“Wait, what kind of mood is that!?
That’s terrifying lol
Kinda sadistic
Something happen?
I wanna get caught too!
The viewers were just as bewildered as I was.
“Okay then, I’ll pick a Horror. Jiangshi or Zombie are strong, but today I think I’ll go with Okiku-san.”
Okiku-san is a character modeled after the typical Japanese ghost: a woman in white burial robes with long black hair.
The match started and the game’s setting was an abandoned hospital.
“Where are the Survivors? I know you’re here—drrrrr…”
Kaguya-chan lowered her voice to a creepier tone as she searched for the Survivors. The goal for the Survivors is to avoid the Horror while repairing five generators.
“Ah, found one!!”
“Huh? Where? I didn’t even see them. Wow, Kaguya-chan’s amazing.”
Kaguya-chan predicted the Survivor’s movements, intercepted them, and caught them in no time.
“Okay, gotcha~ I’m taking you to the basement bed now~”
As the Horror, you can carry caught Survivors to beds.
Once strapped to a bed, if a certain amount of time passes, the Survivor will “sleep forever.”
Another Survivor can save them—but only if they get there in time.
To make rescuing harder, Kaguya-chan brought them to the basement.
“Alright, I’m gonna catch more and more. I missed one at the last second before, you know? If everyone hadn’t stopped me, I totally could’ve caught them…”
“Huh… missed one at the last second…? And this deep voice of Kaguya-chan’s… kinda sounds like the one I heard in the haunted house…”
Something about what she said reminded me of the tall ghost woman who chased me at the very end of the haunted house.
“It was dark and far away so I couldn’t see her face, but… could it have been…? No, no way! There’s no way that kind of intense presence could come from the usual Himeji-san… Definitely not…right?”
While I was getting lost in thought, Kaguya-chan continued using perks to play masterfully. She was clearly used to chasing, and in the end, she wiped out all the Survivors.
“Whatever, I’m just gonna stop thinking about it!”
After that, Kaguya-chan kept playing more matches as the Horror and kept wiping out all the Survivors.
To keep getting total kills as the Horror—which is considered the weaker side—is seriously impressive.
“Ahhh, I feel so refreshed! That’s it for today’s stream! See you next time~”
“Whew, she’s insanely good at games so it was fun to watch, but today’s Kaguya-chan was kinda scary… I might not be able to sleep.”
Even after the stream ended, my heart kept pounding and I had trouble falling asleep.
I didn’t manage to sleep until after 2 a.m.

“Good morning, Go-kun. Oh? Did you sleep well last night? You look kind of tired.”
“Good morning, Asuka-san. I usually don’t have trouble even with short sleep, but… I think I’m just mentally exhausted.”
The next day, I arrived at school and exchanged greetings with Asuka-san.
“Mentally exhausted? Did something happen? I can listen if you need to talk?”
“Thanks, but I’m okay. I watched a horror game stream last night and it got me all nervous. Wore me out mentally, I guess?”
“‘I guess’? What’s that supposed to mean? Well, if you say you’re okay, then fine…”
“Yeah, sorry for worrying you.”
I apologized to Asuka-san and took my seat.
“Sakasegawa-kun, are you okay?”
“Hi-Himeji-san! Y-yeah, I’m okay!”
Himeji-san, who rarely speaks to me in class, approached me with concern.
That startled me a bit.
For some reason today… I can’t bring myself to look at Himeji-san’s face…
“Huh?”
Himeji-san looked at me curiously.
“Alright, everyone take your seats—another transfer student is joining us today. Come on in!”
The teacher entered the classroom as he said that.
(“Another” and “again”… Those words don’t really go with “transfer student,” do they…?)
“Excuse me.”
I was stunned when I saw the person who walked in.
It was the same person I’d seen just yesterday.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Takarazuka Rin, transferring here from Mukogawa Music School for the sake of preparing for a role. Pleased to meet you all.”
Standing before us was none other than Takarazuka Rin, the top male-role star of the prestigious all-female revue company.
“EEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHH!?!?!?!”
“Is that… the real one?”
“That beauty has to be real.”
“That coolness is 100% authentic.”
“I’m so glad I’m in this class!”
“Those seductive eyes… swoon…”
“Hey! This one just fainted!”
Boys and girls alike were completely captivated by her overwhelming presence.
“Okay, settle down now. I know we’ve had a lot of transfer students lately, but be nice and get along. As for Takarazuka’s seat… Sakasegawa has an open seat in front of him. Why don’t you sit there?”
(Huh!? In front of me!?)
“Not fair, Sakasegawa again?”
“Getting to look at Takarazuka-san from behind all day? So jealous…”
Once again, I was on the receiving end of everyone’s envious stares.
Seriously, what is happening right now? What is this situation?
Takarazuka-san sat in the seat in front of me, then turned around to speak to me.
“I’ve been thinking since then, and I realized I still have a long way to go in my role preparation. That’s why I figured being near you would be the best way.”
“I-I see? So that’s what this is about…”
“Yes. I look forward to working with you, Go-kun.”
With a gentle smile, she called me by name.
(That smile… it’s way too cute…!!)
“R-right… If I can be of help, I’ll do my best again.”
If I’m needed for someone’s work, I want to support them however I can.
“And the two of you as well—pleased to meet you.”
Takarazuka-san also greeted Himeji-san and Asuka-san, who sit on either side of me.
“Yes, pleased to meet you too~”
“Y-yes, nice to meet you…!”
I could practically hear an ominous rumble from the pressure coming off all three of them.
I don’t know why, but… everyone’s kind of scary right now…
Sigh… Where did my peaceful, ordinary high school life go…?
