Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 2: To New Horizons

“Is that story really true?”

The next morning.

After leaving the house, I found myself in the director’s office at school.

By the way, there was no farewell or even a word from my former family.
I suppose that was to be expected.

“It’s true. So, please allow me to withdraw from school as of today.”

“Why should you have to suffer on top of everything and even drop out of school!?”

“Asuka, calm down.”

“But Mom! This is totally messed up!”

“I agree. But as a school, we must respect his decision.”

With fair, smooth white skin, sharp cat-like eyes, and silky golden twin-tails that glisten,
she was an extraordinarily beautiful girl whose smile could captivate anyone.

Her body, while average in height, had a curvy chest and a trim waist that made her figure stunning.

She was none other than Asuka Ashiya, the center of the top idol group Asterisk.

Sitting beside her in a luxurious-looking chair was the school director.

With sharp, piercing eyes and a composed yet youthful face, she looked more like a new teacher than a school director.

From their appearance and their conversation, it was clear they were mother and daughter.

(Um… I only came here to drop out. How did it end up like this?)

When I told the front desk staff my name to start the withdrawal process, their expression changed, and they disappeared into the back.

Then I was summoned to this room.

It’s my first time leaving a school, so I don’t know, but…
is it normal to be called to the director’s office when dropping out?

I told the director about what happened yesterday—and that brings us to now.

Since both the director and Asuka know about my situation, it wasn’t a problem to talk to them.

“Thank you, Asuka-san, for being angry on my behalf. But I honestly don’t really care anymore. In fact, I feel kind of relieved.”

“Even if you forgive them, I can’t! And how many times do I have to tell you? Just call me Asuka!”

I had met Asuka a few times at work.

She was kind, even to someone like me—just a small fry in the industry. As expected from a top idol.

“Now that you’re away from your family, and don’t need to support them anymore, shouldn’t you be able to come to school now? There’s no reason to drop out…”

“Like I just explained… I have no reason to keep attending this school anymore.”

Yumekoshi Academy is a combined elementary through high school,
with a strong focus on students in the entertainment industry and a support system designed for that purpose.

My sisters attended this school, and I was enrolled here as well.

Even though I only did behind-the-scenes support, it was officially recognized as part of my entertainment career and counted for credits.

This school is also about training future talent to support the entertainment industry, so it offers a variety of curricula.

But now that I’m leaving the entertainment world, there’s no reason for me to stay.

“Besides, even if I say I’m dropping out—this is pretty much my first real day at school, so it’s like I’ve been out from the start, right?”

“Exactly! That’s what’s weird!”

Asuka suddenly shouted.

“Huh? What is?”

“That this is basically your first day at school! Even if you’re popular, it’s not like you can’t come to school at all!”

I glanced at the director, and she nodded.

Looks like it’s true.

“So that’s how it was…”

“I’ve been wondering—why haven’t you been able to come to school all this time?”

“Well, I was supporting all of my sisters, so naturally, I guess?”

I worked from morning till night—I never had time to go to school.

“Wait, all of them? There are seven sisters! How many people were sharing the workload?”

“Uh… just me?”

“What?”

“Hmm?”

“That’s… impossible… I mean, if they weren’t successful maybe, but each of them is already established in different fields too…”

“Maybe so? Back when they weren’t well known, I handled everything by myself, and even after they became successful, things just… dragged on like that. Haha.”

(In the beginning, our agency had no work or money, so my penny-pinching mom made me take care of everyone.)

Even the director looked dumbfounded listening to this.

(Yeah… I know. Someone like me has no business supporting actual talents. What the heck was I doing…?)

“By the way, why are you here, Asuka-san?”

“T-That’s just a coincidence!”

Coincidence? In the director’s office?
Well… I guess it makes sense if she’s the daughter.

“Asuka, no lying. You told the security staff to contact you if Atsumu-kun ever showed up at school, right?”

“Ahhh! Stop!”

“You told them you’d skip work and come running the moment he came, because he never shows up. And now, the moment he does, he says he’s dropping out—so you rushed over in a panic, didn’t you?”

“Ahhhh! Mom, what are you saying! That’s totally not true!!”

Asuka blushed bright red and flailed in embarrassment.

Somehow… it felt like a warm family moment.

That scene looked so radiant to me.

“…Cute.”

Before I knew it, the word had slipped from my mouth.

“Huh!?”

“Ah! I’m sorry! It’s just… seeing you all flustered and blushing like that, Asuka-san, so different from your usual perfect stage persona—it was just so cute, I said it without thinking! I’m sorry! Coming from me, that must be super creepy, right? I’m really sorry!”

“…D-Did you just call me cute again!?”

Her face turned even redder than before! Oh no, she’s definitely mad!

“W-Wait! You’re mad, right? I’m sorry for calling you cute!”

“I-I-I’m not mad! Just… don’t say it again!”

“Okay! Got it—I won’t say it again!”

“…Wait, you won’t say it again?”

Asuka tilted her head slightly and looked up at me with teary eyes.

(Ehhhh!? What am I supposed to do now!? Also, is she not way too cute right now!?)

“My, my. This is the first time I’ve seen Asuka this flustered.”

The director remarked with amusement.

(Director, please don’t just watch—help me out here!)

○ ●

“Ahem.”

After a while, the director cleared her throat.

The atmosphere shifted.

“Now then, Atsumu-kun. Let me ask you—what are your plans from here on?”

The director looked me straight in the eye as she asked.

Even Asuka, who had turned away with her ears still bright red, now looked toward me.

I took a deep breath.

Then, I conveyed the thoughts I’d been holding in.

“Well… I want to go to a normal school, study, make friends, maybe get a girlfriend someday… I just want to enjoy an ordinary youth.”

It might not be a grand ambition, but right now, that’s my dream.

“That’s a lovely dream… As the school, we have no choice but to accept your withdrawal. However, as a mother with a daughter your age, I can’t just let this go. Which is why… I know a school that would suit you perfectly.”

○ ●

“So this is the town I’ll be living in now.”

I had arrived in an unfamiliar place.

“Still, I can’t believe how smoothly everything got sorted out… I really need to be thankful.”

Everything had moved along quickly after that, and now I was on my way to my new home.

Yes—my new home.

The director had introduced me to a school run by an acquaintance of hers, and I would be attending there.

It had a student dormitory, already furnished with appliances, and they said I could move in right away.

Apparently, the director would be covering the costs for now.

“I was seriously thinking I’d have to scrape by on daily wages to survive, so this is a huge relief.”

“Oh, don’t worry about it. Doing something for you might end up helping Asuka’s future too, after all.”

The director… well, I didn’t quite understand what she meant by that,
but she’s clearly someone who cares about students.

“I thought I might end up homeless or something…”

She told me I could pay her back anytime, but I’ll start working part-time even as a student to gradually repay her.

I hope that someday I can support myself with the money I earn.

“Alright then. Time to head to the dorm—it’s the start of a new life!”

A life where no one controls me—just mine, and mine alone.

So much had happened until now, and I was really down yesterday…

But now? I was excited.

“Hm? What’s that?”

Up ahead, I could see a girl being harassed by two thuggish-looking guys.

(Ugh… is this town not safe or something…?)

“No time to worry about that! I’ve got to help her!”

I dashed toward the girl.

And just like that, my new life was off to a rocky start.
