Chapter 15: [Ex-Family Side] Endless Notifications [Mutsuki]
It happened on the night Atsumu had finished filming the PV for Asterisk.
In Mutsuki’s room—
“Prrrrr, Prrrrr”
A digital ringtone echoed through the room.
“Ugh, so damn noisy… Who the hell is it!?”
Mutsuki was awakened by the ringtone of her smartphone. She was always in a bad mood when waking up.
“Mutsuki-san, you finally answered!! Something terrible has happened!!”
The caller was Harima Rima, a new manager. Her voice was filled with urgency.
“Huh? Aren’t you the newbie? I was sleeping so good—what the hell do you want?”
“What!? You just woke up? It’s already nighttime! Don’t tell me… you slept the whole day…?”
“So what if I did!?”
Mutsuki had gone on a drinking binge after finally being free from Go and ended up sleeping for a full day. Naturally, she had skipped school.
“N-No, never mind… You’re off duty anyway… But more importantly, the photo you posted on Photostagram yesterday has become a hot topic in the news!! And it’s bad!!”
“Oh! For real? I freaking did it!”
“That’s not what I—”
Before Rima could continue, Mutsuki ended the call.
“Alright! If it made the news, then that means it went viral, right!? See, I knew I had the better eye for picking pictures! Leaving it to that useless idiot was just a waste.”
After hearing her selfie had made the news, Mutsuki decided to check the article herself rather than listen to Rima. She also regretted and cursed Go-kun for being in charge of the account until now.
“Let’s see… ‘Asterisk’s PV teaser released? Ashiya Asuka is too cute,’ huh?”
What popped up on the site wasn’t about her at all—it was an article compiling online reactions to Asterisk’s teaser video.
“The quality is better than usual, I can’t wait for the full version. Asuka’s normally perfect expression changes to a shy, natural smile—it was unforgettable,” huh!? What the hell!?”
As someone aiming to be the top idol, Mutsuki saw Asterisk as a rival to defeat. Especially their center, Ashiya Asuka—she had strong, complex feelings toward her.
“That smile’s probably just calculated to hell anyway! Damn it all!”
She slammed her smartphone onto the bed. It clearly irritated her that Asuka was getting praise.
“W-Well, forget her for now. I’m the one who went viral!! ……Wait, what?”
Picking her phone back up, she re-read the news article—and saw something completely unexpected.
“Amagasaki Mutsuki of Prism Prison, underage drinking!?”
That was the headline.
The article explained how a can of beer had appeared in Mutsuki’s selfie on Photostagram from the night before.
Go-kun had always known how poor Mutsuki’s risk management was—especially with social media. That’s why he had handled everything so carefully until now, making sure nothing ever blew up.
Now that Go-kun was gone, Mutsuki’s lack of caution had been exposed to the world in the worst possible way.
“I-I thought I hid it… It got caught in the mirror’s reflection? Damn, I was too drunk to notice the details… This is bad, I gotta delete it fast…”
Panicked and groggy, she hurriedly deleted the photo.
“Phew, that should fix it.”
Then Rima called again, and Rokutsuki answered.
“Don’t hang up on me like that! About the photo you posted yesterday—it’s on the news, and we need to talk about how to respond—”
“Oh, that? I already deleted it.”
“Wait, you deleted it!? That’s bad! Deleting it without saying anything just makes it look like you’re admitting to it!”
“…Ah!”
By the time she realized it, it was too late.
There were so many ways she could’ve handled the situation—but she chose the absolute worst option.
It was the moment when mere speculation turned into a seemingly certain accusation.
Pi-kon… Pi-kon, pi-kon, pi-ko, pi-ko, pi-ko, pi-pi-pi-pi-pi-pi-pi
The app’s notification sounds wouldn’t stop ringing.
Comments poured down like an avalanche.
“Deleting it means you’re admitting it, right?”
“Underage drinking? Are you stupid?”
“I thought you were just pretending to be bad, but you really did something wrong…”
“I’m so disappointed.”
“Heard there’s an idol who drank underage lol.”
“Mutsuki-chan, you’re lying, right?”
“Your idol career is over.”
“Are all the Amagasaki sisters like this?”
“What kind of upbringing did you have?”
“An idol drinking alcohol, that’s crazy.”
“I took screenshots, so deleting it is useless.”
“If you’re an idol, please let us keep dreaming.”
“You must drink because you can’t handle it, huh.”
“Is the idol industry really that bad? lol.”
“Quit being an idol.”
“I was supporting you…”
“I’ve been betrayed.”
Normally, notifications were turned off, and until now, she hadn’t opened the app, so she hadn’t noticed anything.
But even with notifications off, when the app was open, she couldn’t ignore the flood of comments arriving.
All her past posts were now filled with comments about her underage drinking.
“What the hell!? What’s going on!?!?”
Disappointment and hostility hit Mutsuki directly.
Until now, Mutsuki had never been involved in such controversies or abusive comments.
That was because Go-kun had managed things to avoid this, even apologizing to the higher-ups on her behalf at the site.
“Haa, seriously, screw this!! I’m not like some ordinary person. So whatever I do should be forgiven, right? Right…?”
No matter how important a person is, breaking the law is unacceptable.
That’s just common sense.
But Mutsuki’s sense of reality had become so numb that she couldn’t turn back from this point.
“Stop it!! Stop!!”
Yet the comments wouldn’t stop.
“Please stop… please stop…”
Although Mutsuki was usually tough with others, she wasn’t used to being attacked so harshly.
“Why do I have to go through this…?”
In the room filled with the ringing notifications, Mutsuki sat alone, hugging her knees, covering her ears, and eventually became unable to move.
