Chapter 1: Cut Off from the Family
“Atsumu Amagasaki, we are severing all family ties with you.”
It happened on May 5th — my 18th birthday.
That night, I was, as usual, busy supporting my sisters with their work…
Then, a message came from my mother.
“Today is a celebration. We’re having a family dinner. Come.”
I was summoned to the dining room.
Messages from my mother only ever came as work orders through her secretary.
Getting a direct message — and one that wasn’t an order — was a first for me.
(When was the last time I had a meal with someone?)
(Actually, when was the last time I had a proper meal?)
(Could it be… they’re celebrating my birthday?)
Those faint hopes were crushed the moment I opened the door.
My mother and all seven of my sisters were already at the dining table.
The eldest sister, Ichiou, a flawless beauty and an actress so talented even critics sing her praises.
The second sister, Futaba, a multi-talented entertainer with a cute look and exceptional charm, appearing on many programs.
The third sister, Mika, a model with an exotic figure, gracing the covers of countless magazines.
The fourth sister, Shiki, a voice actress whose transparent voice captivates audiences, featured in many anime each season.
The fifth sister, Mutsuki, an idol known for her cool, commanding stage presence, admired by all genders.
The sixth sister, Nana, a singer with soaring vocals, whose songs always hit the charts.
The seventh sister, Yachiru, a dedicated YouTuber known for her sincere approach to challenges and beloved as “Japan’s little sister.”
They all sat around the table, listening in on the conversation between me and our mother — and glaring at me with cold, hostile eyes.
“…Huh?”
“Did you not hear me? Unlike your sisters, you’re truly useless. You are the disgrace of the Amagasaki family. Though, that ends today.”
The one who declared this was my mother, Reina Amagasaki, who also happens to be the president of the talent agency representing all seven sisters.
“I—I heard you… but, what do you mean? Cut ties…? I don’t understand… Is this some kind of joke or maybe a PR stunt…?”
“Don’t be ridiculous!”
Unable to contain her irritation, she slammed her hand on the table.
Following suit, Mutsuki clicked her tongue in annoyance.
“Who’d watch such a lame stunt? Even bottom-tier YouTubers could come up with something better, you know?”
Yachiru looked at me with pity.
“Yachiru-chan’s totally right. But, well, he is trash below the bottom tier, so I guess it can’t be helped~”
Futaba chimed in casually.
“At least… can you tell me why?”
“You seriously don’t know?”
Mutsuki jumped in again.
“Because you’re a useless, half-assed parasite! Just being around you is a burden! I can’t believe I’m twins with someone like you — and older twin at that. It’s disgusting.”
“Now, now, Mutsuki-san. Such foul language, even for a lady. But I do completely agree with what you’re saying. Are we even really siblings?”
Mika added, harsh as ever.
While I stood there stunned, Ichiou took the floor.
“As members of the Amagasaki family, we must always strive to be the best. And yet, you have nothing that sets you apart — not even among your own family. Do you seriously think someone like that has any value? The fact that you can’t even comprehend that proves your foolishness.”
“Ichiou-nee, if you put it that bluntly, even someone with a speck of pride smaller than a microbe might get hurt. I mean, if someone said that to me, I’d just die of embarrassment. Kya-hahaha!”
Shiki laughed like it was all a joke.
No matter how hard I tried, I could never be like my sisters.
Even while I was trying my best, my younger sisters quickly outshined me.
I could never become the kind of dazzling star my mother wanted.
“But I… I really did try! I worked hard to support everyone, however I could!”
“‘Tried’? ‘Did my best’? ‘Thought I was helping’? That’s all weak talk from a loser. Totally pathetic.”
Futaba dismissed me without a second thought.
“Where ordinary people have to struggle just to get by, we geniuses easily stand far above them without even trying. Being a star means doing what no one else can. And here you are, bragging about doing what anyone could do?”
Everyone nodded along with Mutsuki.
Then our mother spoke.
“To raise the Amagasaki family’s public image even further, you are no longer needed. We’ve already arranged for someone else to take your place. So consider this your dismissal.”
I had no words left.
To carve out a place for myself in this family, I stepped into a behind-the-scenes role —preparing materials, adjusting schedules, managing meals and social media so everyone could do their jobs smoothly.
In the world of showbiz, behind-the-scenes support is essential for stars to shine.
But in the end… I was replaceable.
Anyone could do what I did.
“And the biggest issue of all is that you’re a boy.”
My mother’s hatred for men is deeply rooted.
She sees men as either filthy pigs or tools to climb the social ladder.
That belief had been instilled in all of us since childhood.
“Ugh, just having a male in the family is revolting. We’re trying to market the brand as ‘seven sisters’ — imagine how the public would react if they found out there was a boy mixed in. It’d be a scandal. A total disgrace.”
She glared at me as she spoke.
Almost no one outside the family and a few close insiders knew the truth:
That the seven glittering Amagasaki sisters were actually eight siblings.
And the fifth among them — me — was Atsumu Amagasaki, their brother.
“Hey, hey, talking about this guy is just a waste of my voice. Let’s hurry up and eat. I’m hungry, you know.”
Nana, who had been silent until now, looked at the extravagant meal laid out on the table and made the suggestion.
“R-Right… today was supposed to be a celebration, wasn’t it?”
“No. It is a celebration. A memorable day to commemorate kicking you out of this house. When your grandmother passed away, she left a will stating that the inheritance could be used as funding for the talent agency—as long as you were taken care of in this house until you reached adulthood. If not for that will, I would have thrown you out ages ago… And now, you’ve turned 18—an adult. That means we’re finally free from the constraints of that will.”
Mother looked genuinely happy.
I had no idea that the grandmother who passed away when I was little had left such a will…
She was one of the very few people I remember being kind to me.
“B-But… you said we were going to have a family meal…”
“That’s right. From now on, we are having a family dinner. What, did you actually think you were part of the family?”
“The idea that someone inferior like you could be our family… it’s beyond ridiculous—it’s laughable.”
“I always thought you were boring, but at least you made me laugh one last time. Hilarious.”
“Do you still not realize that just having you around lowers our value?”
“Seriously, just get out of my sight already! Ahaha.”
“Looking at someone as gloomy as you just pisses me off.”
“I never cared about this guy from the start.”
“Hurry up and leave this house.”
They all hurled abuse at me, just like they always had. But this time, I could feel the tears welling up.
I really thought they were my family.
But apparently… they weren’t.
What was all the effort I put in for?
I thought… even someone like me, if I just kept trying, maybe one day I’d be recognized.
But… that day never came.
If I don’t want to burden them any further, then the only thing left for me to do now is…
“…I understand. As of today, I sever my ties with this family and will leave the house.”
“That was the only choice from the beginning.”
“Yup-yup, good riddance!”
“Isn’t this the first good thing he’s done for us?”
“I think so too, Mika-nee. Ahaha.”
“About to cry? You’ve always been a pathetic excuse for a man.”
“So hungry right now.”
“Never come back again.”
“…!”
I clenched my teeth and held back the tears.
(Hold it in… hold it in… don’t cry… don’t cry…)
“…Atsumu, leave your phone here.”
“Huh?”
Mother’s words didn’t register right away, so I asked again.
“I gave you that phone for work purposes. And it has our contact information on it, right? We can’t have that leaking out.”
It was true. I used that phone for work—so it had contact info for the family, industry people, and much more.
There was no way they’d let me walk out with it.
Just a tool for work. But to me, it felt like my only connection to the family.
Still, I placed it down on the table.
In that moment, I felt the final thread between me and the family snap completely.
Or maybe… we were never really family to begin with.
Real family wouldn’t treat someone like this.
Sure, families fight sometimes—but they don’t say things like that.
Thinking I tried so hard to be accepted by people like this… felt utterly pathetic.
I could feel my heart grow cold all at once.
“As for that storage room you were using as your room—if you clean it properly, you can stay there for just tonight. Consider it my final act of mercy.”
“…Thank you for your kindness.”
“Also, don’t forget to leave behind any other work-related tools.”
“…Understood. Goodbye.”
I turned my back on the Amagasaki family—
and without ever looking back,
I left the dining room for good.
Just come here after reading the manga and, man. Such a cruel start for the MC who suddenly getting a shocking accouncement about his banishment from his home on his birthday, but what even worse for the poor guy is all of his supposed “flesh and blood” mocking the poor guy as if he is a “problem” to the family despite his hidden contribution to the family buisness-especially the mom whose misandrist mindset hurt him the most for she only thinks about the business and nothing else. Poor guy really deserves somebody much better than that toxic family.
I dunno about people but if I must say something, for the family who keep mocking the MC for being “useless” just because he is a male who is not “talented” like his former sisters, let’s say that karma will going to haunt the family and they will experience the FAFO moment real soon.
If the family SERIOUSLY worrying about the “scandal” over a male in their household, I dunno if not having him around. Unless they themselves can do on their own without his help, which is not happening due to their toxic ego and hubris.
