Chapter 80: Moji’s Abilities

The day after making Moji my familiar.

Today is the day to assess how well Moji can work.

Even though Moji cost 30,000 NP, there’s no guarantee that he’s suited for farm work.

The price might have been based purely on strength or cuteness, so I don’t want to set my expectations too high. I’ll just have him work and see.

“Good morning, Lua.”

“Good morning, Sato, Sheila. …Hmm? I haven’t seen that monster before. Did you get a new familiar?”

“Yes. This is Moji. He’ll be working here from now on.”

Moji bowed politely as I introduced him to Lua.

“That’s quite an adorable monster. I’m Lua. Since we’ll be working together, nice to meet you.”

“I’m planning to have Moji do his first job today. Would you like to watch, Lua?”

“I’d usually decline since I have my own work, but I’m curious to see how Moji performs. I’ll observe for a bit until Portia and Lois arrive.”

“Of course. Let’s watch together.”

And so, Lua joined us in observing Moji’s work.

I had already explained the tasks to him yesterday, so he should be able to get started right away.

“Alright, Moji. Just start with whatever you can handle.”

Moji nodded at my words and began chanting while twirling his staff slightly.

I’ve seen Sheila use magic multiple times before, but no matter how many times I witness it, it always excites me.

And… I don’t know if I should say this, but it feels like Moji’s magic is on a different level than Sheila’s.

Even I can see the swirling aura of magic forming around him. Despite his cute appearance, he looks incredibly cool right now.

“I was a knight, so I don’t know much about magic, but I can tell his skill is impressive.”

“I’m not good at magic either, but I can tell how refined Moji’s technique is. I can’t believe he can use magic so proficiently right after being summoned.”

Even though he’s still in the process of gathering mana, Lua and Sheila are already impressed.

I, on the other hand, don’t understand magic at all, so I just watch in pure anticipation.

Then, from the tip of Moji’s staff, magic was unleashed.

A large mass of water floated into the air, then burst apart, scattering into smaller droplets that rained down perfectly onto the field.

I clapped my hands and praised Moji.

“Moji, that was amazing! You’ve already finished today’s watering!”

“The spell itself was impressive, but the way he controlled the water after it scattered was even more incredible. This ability is more suited for farming than I expected.”

“Wait… does this mean we’re not needed anymore?”

While Sheila and I were purely excited, Lua seemed worried.

And honestly… if Moji can water the fields this quickly, he might be able to handle harvesting just as efficiently.

Not just Lua—Sheila and I might become unnecessary too.

As we began worrying about Moji doing everything on his own, he walked over to us, letting out a cute sound while gesturing.

It seemed he was trying to explain that he couldn’t use magic continuously.

Creating a large water sphere required a lot of mana, and even controlling the scattered droplets consumed more energy.

Additionally, he couldn’t harvest crops using magic.

Technically, he could use wind magic, but he was afraid of cutting the stems by accident, so he avoided it.

“I don’t know if I should say ‘thank goodness,’ but at least we’re not entirely useless.”

“Even if Moji could handle everything, I wouldn’t kick you out, Lua.”

“I appreciate that, Sato, but if I don’t work, I’d feel too guilty to bear it. So I’ll put my all into farming!”

With determination in her eyes, Lua clenched her fists and ran off to work.

She really doesn’t need to worry, but if I were in her position, I’d probably feel the same way.

…But for now, the focus is on Moji.

Even if he has limited uses, his magic is incredible.

If he can control all four elements, he might be able to use earth magic too, meaning he could plow the fields as well.

If that’s the case, Moji would be a game-changer.

“Lua’s gone. Sato, shall we continue testing what else Moji can do?”

“Yeah. So far, it looks like he can handle everything except harvesting, but we need to check.”

“I also want to see Moji evolve, and we’ll need more magic essence for that. Every time we discover something new, more possibilities open up—it’s exciting.”

Unlike Lua, who was worried, Sheila seemed to be enjoying this.

I feel the same way.

If we take our time, we can make things even more comfortable here.
