Chapter 34: Japan and the Other World

“Ahh, that was delicious! The fried potatoes were already great, but the omelette rice was on another level! The illustrations in your books are amazing, and the food is unbelievably delicious. Could it be… the world where you lived, Sato, is an incredible place?”

“Yes, looking back, everything felt so normal when I was living there, so I didn’t think much of it. But it really might’ve been an amazing world, with everything available and all at such high quality.”

“And it’s a world without monsters or conflict, right? I can’t help but feel envious.”

“Well, in the country I lived in, at least. But I think this world is great too. Monsters are cute when they’re familiars, and aside from the safety concerns and the food being not as tasty, it’s practically perfect.”

The potential invasions from other nations and the looming threat of the Demon King.
Although the area around the royal capital is relatively safe, there are regions where crimes happen without restraint once you step further away.

That part of this world isn’t great, but as long as I’m living here peacefully and with the help of the [Otherworldly Farming] skill, I actually find it easier to live here than in Japan.
The lack of internet culture, which both had its positives and negatives, seems to have had a healing effect on me during my rough patch.

“Really? From what I’ve heard, it feels like there’s nothing here that surpasses your world.”

“I think so too. If possible, I’d love to visit the world where Sato-san lived.”

“I wish that were possible. I’d love to show Velvet-san and Sheila-san around my world.”

“I’d like to go too, but I don’t think it’s feasible. My father explained this, didn’t he? Transferring worlds requires an enormous amount of magic power over decades… and there’s no such thing as magic in your world, is there?”

“No, there isn’t. It’s entirely a thing of fiction in my world… I see. That means returning to this world from there would also be impossible.”

“Exactly. It might be possible to intentionally summon someone back, but as with what happened to you, it’s far from guaranteed to work perfectly.”

In that case, it seems unlikely I’d ever be able to show Velvet-san and Sheila-san my world.
It would require the determination to live there permanently.

While I’ve been fortunate to meet good people and have been given special treatment by the king, living in an unfamiliar world would undoubtedly be tough.

“I see. So, it’s a ritual fraught with great risks.”

“Yeah. That’s why it can’t be used lightly, like for a simple vacation. My father said he didn’t really want to carry out the ‘Hero Summoning Ritual’ either.”

If such a dangerous ritual had to be performed, it means this country—or perhaps this world—is facing a significant threat.

While I’m enjoying this slow, peaceful life, Ren and the others are out there fighting.
I made a promise to Mika-san, so I want to do whatever I can to support the four of them.

“The Demon King’s army is that dangerous, huh? Is it really okay for me to be enjoying myself like this?”

“Of course, it is. Just by choosing not to return to your world, you’ve fulfilled your role in a way.”

“That’s right. And you’ve also been taking care of Mika-san. I think you’re contributing plenty, Sato-san.”

“I see. So working hard on farming is like fulfilling my role.”

“Exactly. And if you’re going to do it anyway, it’s better to enjoy it.”

If there’s only so much I can do, there’s no point in making it miserable for myself. I’ll keep enjoying things as I have been.

…Though, it might not hurt to focus a bit more on efficiency.

If I can earn enough NP to freely serve Japanese dishes to Ren and the others, I’ll be able to give them better support.
I won’t forget to have fun, but I’ll also strive to work hard on farming.

“With that in mind, I’ll continue enjoying myself as I have been. I hope you both will continue to support me.”

“Of course! Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.”

“Same here. Though, honestly, it’s mostly for the books and other rewards.”

It was just a casual conversation after dinner, but it felt like a meaningful discussion.
I already had goals for farming, but now I feel even more motivated.

“Well then, to strengthen our bond, how about some dessert after dinner?”

“Huh, are you going to make it for us, Sato-san?”

“Yes, it’s something simple, but I’d be happy to.”

“What is it? You can make desserts too? I have a sweet tooth, you know!”

“Me too! Velvet-sama, Sato-san’s desserts are really delicious, so you can look forward to it!”

“If Sheila says so, then I’ll set my expectations high.”

While Velvet-san and Sheila-san were getting excited, I returned to the kitchen to prepare dessert.
I decided to make vanilla ice cream, a simple and inexpensive treat using milk, vanilla essence, sugar, and fresh cream.

The flavor is guaranteed, so I’ll make it right away and serve it to them.
