Chapter 3: Otherworld Farming
“I’ve reviewed the results. By the way, can you also see my appraisal details, Father?”
“Yes, indeed, I can.”
“Would you mind taking a look and sharing your honest thoughts about it?”
“Very well. Hmm… Unfortunately, this doesn’t appear to be suited for combat. However, you seem to possess a unique skill, which I’m certain will prove useful.”
From the moment I saw my stats, I already knew combat wasn’t my strong suit.
While I did have a slight desire to try fighting monsters, the reality was that a middle-aged man with no physical training wasn’t going to survive such a thing. I decided to abandon the idea.
“Thank you. By the way, is it possible to find out more about this ‘Otherworld Farming’ skill?”
“Certainly. Just touch the part of the crystal where the skill name is written.”
I followed his instructions, touching the part of the crystal that displayed “Otherworld Farming,” as though I were tapping a smartphone. The crystal then displayed the skill’s detailed description.
Marveling at its unexpectedly high-tech functionality, I began to carefully read through the details of the skill.
…
The skill was far more complex than I had imagined, and it deviated completely from what I’d initially envisioned. But it felt like a skill with enormous potential.
To summarize the effects, when the “Otherworld Farming” skill is activated, it appears I can convert a certain area into farmland.
The crops grown on this farmland would grow faster than usual, and the harvested produce could be converted into NP (Farming Points).
These NP could then be used to purchase various items.
Weapons, armor, and other items were a given.
But even monsters—tamed beasts, to be precise—could be purchased, and, incredibly, items sold in Japan were also listed as available for purchase, according to the skill details.
Of course, the prices were likely steep, but if I worked hard at farming, I could enrich my life and even potentially strengthen myself. It was a skill full of promise.
Though it was labeled a “special skill,” it felt extraordinarily unique—even more so than I had expected.
Perhaps this was a privilege granted only to those summoned from another world.
This piqued my curiosity about the skills of the four heroes who had been summoned with me. I decided that I’d ask them about their skills if we ever met again.
“…Have you managed to understand the skill?”
“Yes. Although there’s much I won’t know until I try using it, I think I’ve got a general idea of what it does.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“Thank you for conducting the appraisal, Father. I’ll be taking my leave now.”
“May the blessings of God be with you. I wish you strength in the days ahead.”
After bowing my head to the priest who prayed for me, I left the church.
Feeling elated about acquiring such an unusual but exciting skill, I returned to the room from earlier. Waiting for me with a serious expression was Sheila.
“My apologies for keeping you waiting.”
“…No, it’s fine. If we’re ready to head to the villa, we should leave now. It’s not far, but things could get troublesome if it gets dark.”
“Understood. I’m ready to go anytime. Please lead the way.”
When I entered the room, Sheila had a stern look on her face. However, the moment she noticed me, her expression shifted to a blank, professional demeanor.
It seemed she was deliberately maintaining a polite attitude in front of me as part of her duties.
However… having spent years working for a soul-crushing company, I had developed a habit of observing people’s gestures and facial expressions.
Because of this, I couldn’t help but notice the brief flash of her true feelings in her expression, which left me with a strange and indescribable feeling.
Carrying that vague uneasiness with me, I followed closely behind Sheila, who led the way briskly, as we exited the royal castle.
Just outside the castle, a carriage awaited us. It appeared to have been arranged by the king.
“Please, step inside. This carriage will take us to the villa. Also, may I sit beside you?”
“Of course. Please do, Sheila.”
The carriage, in contrast to the high-tech crystal, was an old-fashioned type you might see in a medieval setting.
The seats were cushioned and comfortable, but the thick canopy made it difficult for fresh air from outside to circulate, which bothered me slightly.
As I worried about whether Sheila, seated directly across from me, might think I smelled, the carriage quickly set into motion.
It had been only a few short hours since I reincarnated into this world, yet here I was, already leaving the royal capital and heading to the villa.
It felt like things were progressing a bit too quickly, but it wasn’t as if I could stay behind in the castle without being able to contribute, so this was probably for the best.
That said, I had caused considerable trouble for Sheila alone… During the ride to the villa, I resolved to tell her that I’d step down from needing her protection as soon as I grew accustomed to this world. Hopefully, that would offer her some peace of mind.

I wonder what’s really going on in her head. I don’t think she’d sit close if she didn’t like him on a neutral level.
