Chapter 204: The City of Renovy

About seven hours after leaving the villa, we arrived at our destination — the city of Renovy — just before nightfall.

Although we’d been told it would take half a day, thanks to Ash we arrived earlier than expected.
We had even considered stopping to stay overnight at a village along the way, so making it there in one day was a huge relief.

“Sato-san, that’s Renovy City over there.”

“It’s much bigger than I imagined… and look at all those carriages, even at this hour.”

“Leaving right away was the right call! With this crowd, if we’d waited until morning, we probably wouldn’t have gotten into the city until nightfall!”

Joel was right — if it was this crowded now, it must have been even worse during the day.
I had definitely underestimated this place.

“I didn’t think it’d be this packed, but I’m glad we left early. This crowd must be because of the flea market, huh?”

“I think so. I don’t know what Renovy is usually like, but this has to be unusually crowded.”

If the flea market was drawing in this many people, the long wait made sense.
It must be quite an event — I was already looking forward to seeing it for myself tomorrow.

We chatted as we waited for our turn in the entry inspection, and by the time we finally entered the city, it was close to midnight.
We found an inn right away and fell asleep almost instantly, as if we’d fainted.

Early the next morning.

We’d only been asleep for about four hours when I woke up to the sound of commotion outside.
Sheila, in the bed next to mine, stirred awake as well, yawning softly.

“Fwaaa… Good morning, Sato-san.”

“Good morning, Sheila. Did you manage to get some sleep?”

“Somewhat, I guess. It was too noisy outside to really sleep well.”

I’d slept fairly well, but Sheila looked extremely tired — maybe she hadn’t slept because she was sharing a room with me and Joel.

If that was the case, I felt really bad about it.

We’d only managed to get one room because of how crowded the city was — there wasn’t much choice.
Honestly, getting even one room that late at night had been a miracle, but it really showed how poorly we’d planned.

“If sharing a room with us made it hard to sleep, I’m sorry.”

“Hehe, don’t worry about it. It couldn’t be helped, and I trust you, Sato-san. Besides, Joel’s… sound asleep.”

Joel was snoring on the sofa, completely unfazed by the noise, even though it was the least comfortable spot.

Maybe it was because he’d trained his nerves through countless nights camping out as an adventurer — or maybe he was just naturally thick-skinned.

Ever since coming to this world, I’d gotten better, but I used to struggle with insomnia back in my corporate days.
I couldn’t help but envy someone like Joel, who could sleep anywhere, anytime — that’s a kind of superpower in itself.

“I’m glad to hear that. I was feeling guilty about the sleeping arrangements.”

“Please don’t worry about it. Anyway, let’s get ready quickly — with all this noise, the flea market’s probably already started.”

“Right. Let’s get moving.”

We woke up the still-snoozing Joel and started getting ready.

Even last night, we’d seen tents and blue tarps set up all over the city, so it wasn’t surprising that the market might have opened at dawn.

The excitement of the thought blew away any lingering sleepiness, and I hurried through preparations.

“All set here. How about you two?”

“Ready and waiting! Got everything packed!”

“I’m good too. Let’s head out.”

We left the inn and stepped into the bustling streets.
The noise we’d heard from inside was nothing compared to the sheer energy outside.

It felt like an expanded version of a summer festival — more a celebration than a flea market.
Vendors were calling out everywhere, and I had no idea where to start looking first.

“This atmosphere is amazing. Now I understand what you meant when you said it’s one of the biggest flea markets in the country.”

“I didn’t expect it to be this lively either. Lady Velvet really knew what she was recommending.”

“Even just the vibe is so fun! Let’s start with that stall over there!”

Joel’s eyes had caught on a shop selling keychains, and he dashed off through the crowd.
Afraid we’d lose him in the sea of people, Sheila and I hurried after him — straight toward a quirky-looking keychain stall that stood out among the rest.
