Chapter 195: The Summer Festival

The day of the summer festival had finally arrived.

Because of limited materials this time, we only invited people directly connected to us—but from the morning, the place was already bustling with visitors.

Since farming never takes a day off, we continued our usual work while greeting the guests who had come.
Honestly, I wanted to hold the festival at night when it’s cooler, but in this world, securing enough light after sunset is difficult.

There are magic-powered lights, but not enough mana to illuminate such a wide area. So inevitably, the festival had to take place during the day.
Fortunately, today was clear and pleasantly cool—perfect festival weather.

Grateful for that, we threw ourselves fully into our morning farm work.

With the help of our guests, we managed to finish all the tasks before noon.
From here on, we could dedicate ourselves entirely to the fair.

“Sato, I see a lot of unfamiliar things around—what exactly are we doing today?”

“Velvet-san, thank you for helping out this morning.”

“No need to thank me. More importantly, can you tell me what’s going on?”

“It’s a small festival. We’ll be collecting a small fee this time, but there are mini-games too. Please feel free to try all the booths and have fun.”

“Hmm… that’s not much of an explanation, but I suppose I just have to go around to each stall?”

Velvet didn’t look entirely convinced by my brief explanation, but she immediately headed toward the first stall anyway.

The first game was target shooting. Since preparing guns was difficult, we used bows and arrows instead.

If you hit the target and knock down a prize, you get to keep it.
Following the example of the stall attendant, Drake, Velvet gave it a try.

At first, her arrows went wildly off target—but as she got the hang of it, her aim improved, and with her final shot, she managed to win a prize.

It was just a small piece of candy, but she looked genuinely happy in a way that didn’t quite suit her usual demeanor, and it warmed my heart to see it.

As I smiled at Velvet’s rare expression, I suddenly heard a familiar voice from behind me.

“Sato! We read your invitation letter and came to visit!”

“Yato, and… Isabella-san too! I see you’ve both come. And the person behind you is…?”

Even without looking, I could tell it was Yato from the way she spoke—but when I turned around, Isabella was there too.
And standing slightly behind Isabella was a small, adorable girl.

Her hair was silky and fine, shimmering like spun gold.
Her skin was pale and translucent, almost glowing in the light.

Her eyes were strikingly large and beautifully shaped—one blue, one green—heterochromatic and jewel-like.

But most distinctive of all were her long, pointed ears—just like Isabella’s.
Could this be the Rose Isabella mentioned before?

“This is Rose-sama. When I told her about this place, she became interested, and after I mentioned today’s event, she said she wanted to come.”

“I see. Um—Rose-san, was it? I’m Sato. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“…I’m Rose. …Nice to meet you.”

She seemed a little shy, so I kept some distance when I greeted her, and she gave a small, polite bow in return.
Her voice was very soft, almost a whisper—but since she’s never left the elven country before, I hope she’ll open up little by little.

“Rose said she wanted to come, but just before we left, she changed her mind and said she didn’t! That’s why we were a bit late!”

“Yato! Do you have to say unnecessary things out loud?”

“It’s fine, really—you’re not late at all. We just started.”

Because Isabella scolded Yato with a serious expression, I hurried to smooth things over.

Meanwhile, Rose was lightly thumping Yato’s back with her small fists—adorably so—so it didn’t seem like they were actually on bad terms. It felt more like close friends teasing each other.

“If it just started, then good! Since Rose’s here, could you show us around, Sato?”

“If Rose-san is okay with it, I’d be happy to. Is that alright with you?”

“…Yes… it’s fine.”

After glancing around nervously, Rose nodded after a short pause.
I wasn’t sure if she truly felt comfortable or was just being polite, but since she agreed, I decided to give them a quick tour.

Still, just in case she was forcing herself for my sake, I resolved to finish the introduction quickly so she could relax.

“I’m glad to hear that. Is there any stall that interests you?”

“Me, me! That round thing over there caught my eye!”

“Yato, you can wait. Let’s go where Rose-sama wants first.”

“Why? Rose wants to see that round thing too, right?”

Rose nodded at Yato’s words.
Isabella still looked unconvinced, but since Rose seemed interested too, we decided to start with Yato’s choice—the takoyaki stand.

And somehow, I started to understand why Yato and Isabella tended to clash.
Yato was a bit too carefree and lacked delicacy, while Isabella was overly protective.

When you add Rose into the mix, it was easy to see how their interactions might turn into arguments.

For Rose’s sake, I decided I’d do my best to make sure those two didn’t start bickering during the festival.
