Chapter 194: Industrial Monsters

I had been a bit worried about making the deadline, but after I gifted Rozzo and Sid the DVD player and monitor, they were so fired up that they finished the food stall a whole week ahead of schedule.

It turned out exactly how I’d imagined it — with this, I could actually hold a proper festival fair.

We’d already decided which stall would sell what and who would be in charge of each one.
Thanks to the special bonus I offered, plenty of volunteers came forward, and from among them I picked the people best suited for each booth.

With the festival just a week away, I decided to spend today using my remaining NP to purchase some new tamed monsters.
I’d actually had my eye on a few for a while now and had already discussed it with Sheila, who readily approved — so I was all set to go through with it.

The first monster I bought was a Snow Deer.
Ash had been taking on too much of the burden lately, so I wanted another creature capable of pulling a wagon.

It didn’t have Ash’s raw strength, nor could it understand speech, so I’d need a driver, but I already knew how useful these creatures could be from my trip to the winter dungeon town.
At only 5,000 NP, it was a bargain too.

When I summoned it, a beautiful Snow Deer appeared, its fur gleaming in the light.

“Nice to meet you. My name’s Sato. I’ll be counting on you from now on.”

The deer dipped its head politely in greeting.
Despite its large size, its gentle eyes and soft coat gave it a calm, almost domestic air — it actually reminded me of the deer in Nara that bow to people.

“From today, I’ll call you Nyx. Is that all right?”

The Snow Deer seemed to like the name and shook its head up and down energetically.
The name came from the Latin word for “snow,” and the sound of it fit nicely.

Satisfied, I had Nyx step aside and prepared to summon the next monster.

The second one was a Queen Needle — I’d been receiving honey from Velvet for a while now, but since I couldn’t rely on her to supply large amounts forever, I decided to get my own.

I wasn’t sure if a tamed Queen Needle would actually gather honey for me, or even give it to me afterward, but given how valuable their honey was, it was worth the risk.
And at 7,000 NP, it wasn’t too steep.

When I completed the purchase, a large bee about half a meter long appeared — surprisingly cute, with big, round eyes.
Its tail, though, had a menacing stinger about the same length as its body.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Sato. Let’s get along, okay?”

When I greeted it, the Queen Needle began flying in a figure-eight pattern in front of me — maybe its way of saying hello.

“From today, I’ll call you Quid. Your job will be to gather honey. Is that all right?”

At my words, Quid buzzed even faster in excitement.

I’d already prepared a nest for it on the back hill, so it would live freely there and collect honey for us.
I’d show it the location later — for now, one more purchase remained.

The last monster was a Moo-Moo Stamp, priced at 20,000 NP, much higher than the others.

Just as the name implied, it resembled a cow — and I bought it specifically for its milk.
After tasting the delicious milk from a Summer Cattle that gourmet hunter Douglas had given me, I knew I needed my own source.

When I summoned it, a large brown cow — much like a Jersey breed — appeared.
It looked almost entirely like a regular cow, though the rough texture of its fur and its sharp horns gave off a faintly magical creature vibe.

I gave my usual greeting and then named it:

“From today, I’ll call you Momo. I’ll be counting on you for milk, okay?”

“Moo~!”

Momo seemed to like the name, narrowing her eyes happily as she mooed.
When I stroked her neck, she looked utterly content.

With that, my new lineup of tamed monsters was complete.

To be honest, I wasn’t entirely sure how well Quid and Momo would perform — whether they’d really bring in honey and milk consistently — but if it worked out, they’d become an incredible help to our operations.

Hoping for sweet honey and rich milk, I guided each of them to their new sleeping quarters.
