Chapter 193: Overjoyed
Two days after I told Rozzo and Sid I’d be giving them the DVD player and other gifts, morning came.
After breakfast, I stepped out of the villa—and there they were, both standing right in front.
“Huh? Rozzo-san, Sid-san, what brings you here so early in the morning?”
“Oh! Sato-san! Finally, you’re out!”
“We finished building the house, so we came to get you right away! Sorry to spring it on you, but could we get our gift today?”
“Of course, that’s fine—but wait, you already built the house? It’s only been two days!”
“Damn right! You said you had an awesome present for us, so we got all hyped up and worked nonstop!”
“Building our own houses here was fun, but this—this was the most enjoyable work of my entire life. We didn’t even take a break! Rozzo was grinning the whole time, too.”
“That’s you you’re talking about! I was dead serious!”
“No way—you had the creepiest smile plastered on your face.”
For some reason, the two of them started arguing.
It sounded to me like they’d both just had a good time working, but… I’d better step in.
“Hold on, hold on. Whether you were smiling or not while working doesn’t matter—just don’t fight, please.”
“Oh, sorry! Sid just started saying nonsense, so I couldn’t help myself!”
“If the gift’s ready, then come on over. It should just be a matter of setting it down now.”
“Got it. It won’t take long anyway, so I’ll give you your presents before I start farming.”
And so, I followed behind Rozzo and Sid to the new building they’d constructed.
They walked briskly, and when I caught up, I saw a beautiful new house standing right between their homes.
“You actually built it…! I can’t believe you finished something this nice in just two days.”
“We didn’t bother with any fancy details inside. It’s just one big open room.”
“Yeah, it’s really just a house for watching DVDs. Come on in!”
Inside, aside from the entrance, it was one enormous empty room—spacious enough to fit maybe twenty people if packed in.
Maybe they’d made it that large so everyone could watch movies together.
“It’s really… plain in here.”
“Once the DVD player’s in place, it’ll brighten up instantly! This plainness is part of the design!”
“I see… I feel like you might be overestimating the power of a DVD player, but all right. Let’s get it set up.”
The room seemed way too big for the size of the monitor, but maybe someday I could add a projector setup.
With that thought, I decided to start by purchasing the generator.
“Oh! That’s the machine for powering the DVD player, right? You’re giving that to us too?”
“You’ll need this one, actually. This DVD player can’t run without it.”
“So it’s a different kind of player, huh? Guess I’ll have to see it myself.”
With both Rozzo and Sid watching curiously, I bought the monitor next.
I placed it on the TV stand they’d prepared and plugged it into the generator.
“…It powers on properly. Looks good.”
“Huh? The screen’s still dark, though… Wait, is that big thing the DVD player?”
“No, the DVD player’s separate. This one’s the screen you’ll be watching the video on.”
“From palm-sized to this huge thing—are you sure we can really have it!?”
“Of course. I’ll set up the DVD player next, so just give me a second.”
I then bought the DVD player and placed it beneath the monitor, connecting them with an HDMI cable and plugging it into the generator.
After moving the generator outside into the sunlight, setup was complete.
If the screen displayed properly, everything should be fine—it was already showing power, so it looked good.
“I’ll play a movie to test it out.”
Since it was a special occasion, I decided to give them a new DVD as well: Iron Man, the first Marvel movie.
I inserted the disc, and—sure enough—the video played perfectly on the big monitor.
“Whoa! The picture’s showing up on the big one!”
“And it’s a new movie too, huh? Amazing! —Hey, why’d you stop it already?”
They were instantly hooked, so I paused it for a moment.
After all, I still had to explain the controls.
“I paused it so I could show you how to operate it. I’ll walk you through everything, so pay attention.”
After explaining the remote controls, I made sure to emphasize not to lose it—those things tend to vanish easily.
“So we can control it from a distance? Incredible… Makes me want to take it apart and see how it works inside!”
“Absolutely not. If you break it, I won’t forgive you.”
“I’m kidding, I’m kidding! Anyway—Sato-san, seriously, thank you! This is unbelievable!”
“It’s fine. You two have helped me out a lot, and I’ll be relying on you even more in the future. Oh, and about the stalls—please have them done in about ten days.”
“Of course! We’ve already started, and we’ll make them perfect.”
“That’s great. All right then, I’ll get back to farming. Enjoy your new setup.”
“Yeah! Really, thank you!”
“Sato, I’ll never forget this kindness as long as I live!”
As the overjoyed Rozzo and Sid waved me off, I left their newly built movie house.
Seeing how happy they were, I knew giving them the DVD player and monitor had been absolutely the right call.
Someday, I’d love to borrow that room and host a movie party with everyone.
With that pleasant thought in mind, I turned my focus back to the fields for the day.
