Chapter 192: Summer Event
About two weeks had passed since the start of summer.
The crops were growing smoothly, and my current NP balance had reached 86,553 — an astonishingly steady income.
Expanding the fields and increasing the growth speed had really paid off.
With this much NP saved up, I could afford to hold a summer event again this year.
Flowing somen noodles, fireworks, and watermelon splitting — those were already decided.
But this year, I wanted to add a small ennichi (festival fair) as well.
Target shooting, ring toss, super ball scooping, candy molds, and a lottery.
Since there were no children in this villa, I planned to make the prizes a bit more “adult-oriented” — higher in grade than usual.
The lottery would be for people who weren’t good at games — overall lower-tier prizes, but with a few special big wins included.
As for the super ball scooping, I thought of writing numbers on the balls, and giving out prizes corresponding to those numbers — a system similar to the lottery.
Then there were the food stalls — the heart of any festival:
yakisoba, takoyaki, shaved ice, frankfurters, candied apples, and chocolate bananas.
I also wanted to have cotton candy, but without a machine, that seemed difficult to make.
Besides, cotton candy feels more like a treat for kids. Adults with children might eat leftovers, but I hadn’t had any myself since becoming an adult.
…Still, for people in this world, that fluffy cotton-candy texture might be a hit.
I’d love for them to try it at least once, but since the machine setup would take effort, maybe I’ll save that for next year.
For now, the ennichi portion was officially decided.
On top of that, I wanted to give a gift to Rozzo and Sid — the generator, monitor, and DVD player, three items in total.
After looking into it, all three together would cost around 30,000 NP — affordable with what I had.
If we were going to host a festival, I’d need to rely on them again, and a thank-you gift felt necessary.
I also wanted them to help build the stalls, so giving the gifts as a kind of advance payment seemed like a good idea.
So, I decided to buy the generator, monitor, and DVD player and present them as gifts.
“Rozzo-san, Sid-san — do you have a moment to talk?”
“Oh? Sato-san! Sure, no problem! Is this about another job request?”
“What do you want us to make this time? If it’s something fun, all the better!”
“Actually, I was hoping you could make some food stalls. I’d like about ten simple stands around this size.”
While explaining the dimensions, I described in detail what I wanted for the stalls.
Since they were simple structures, both Rozzo and Sid agreed without hesitation.
“So, we just need to make ten of these stands? Leave it to us!”
“Is there a deadline? If you want them by tomorrow, we’ll have to start right away.”
“No, nothing that soon. If you could finish within two to four weeks, that would be great — is that doable?”
“Of course! Two weeks? It won’t even take that long!”
“Yeah. You said you wanted slight size variations for each, but they’re simple enough that we can finish within a week.”
“Really? Thank you so much!”
“Don’t mention it! We’ve got more hands now — there’s even a carpenter among the dragonkin immigrants. Piece of cake!”
That was a relief to hear.
As always, Rozzo and Sid were top-tier craftsmen.
“In that case, if you could aim to finish them in about two weeks, that would be perfect. As thanks — both for this and for everything you’ve done — I have a gift for you.”
“A gift? We just got some new DVDs from you, and now there’s more?”
“Yeah, that last batch was amazing. I’m getting excited already.”
“No, this time it’s not DVDs — it’s a new DVD player. Please show me where you’d like it set up, and I’ll install it there.”
The moment I said that, both of them made a kind of choked noise — half disbelief, half excitement — their faces instantly lighting up.
“—Wait, seriously!? I didn’t think we’d get a new DVD player!”
“Can you tell us what kind it is? If it needs to be set up somewhere, it’s different from the one we got before, right?”
“Yes, this one isn’t integrated — the player and monitor are separate.”
“Incredible! You’re really giving us something like that?”
“I can’t even picture it from your description… but hang on, let’s wait on the gift for just a bit. I want to build a special house for it.”
“Huh? You don’t need that much space. It’s something you’d normally set up in a living room.”
“No, if we’re getting something that nice, it deserves its own space. Besides, Rozzo will want to use it too.”
“…All right then. I’ll give it to you once you’re ready to receive it.”
I’d been all ready to hand it over, but in the end, I couldn’t give them the gifts yet.
Still, both Rozzo and Sid were so fired up that as soon as we finished talking, they rushed off to start building the house.
I couldn’t help but feel a bit worried about whether they’d actually get the stalls done… but, well, those two never let me down.
Watching their figures dash off with full energy, I couldn’t help but smile warmly.
