Chapter 191: Fruit Wine

Summer had completely arrived.

The temperature had risen, and it was the kind of season where short sleeves were the only comfortable choice. Still, it wasn’t a harsh summer — more of a pleasant 30°C warmth.

The vegetables in the fields had become full-on summer crops, and I was thinking of hosting a curry party once they were ready for harvest. After all, spicy curry on a hot day is the best. So I’ve been spending my days tending to the fields, hoping the vegetables grow quickly.

Among everyone, though, the one most fired up lately has been Georges-san.
He’s an older man and had always made alcohol as a hobby, but ever since receiving some fruit as a gift from the Cat Mages, his dedication to brewing has completely changed.

According to Norman-san, the fruit itself wasn’t anything particularly special, but it was perfect for making alcohol, so I gave all of it to Georges-san. That fruit seemed to have sparked his ambition to create the finest fruit wine possible.

Georges-san’s alcohols are always of high quality — I honestly think they can rival what’s sold in Japan. If he manages to make a wine that he himself considers the best, it would no doubt become a specialty product of our village.

Compared to other alcoholic drinks, fruit wine is much easier to drink and could be popular with both men and women. On top of that, the ingredients are fruits that can be found in this world.

Since this is Moji’s homeland, we’ve established a friendly relationship with the Cat Mages, and I’m pretty sure they’d be willing to trade with us. If that’s the case, we can get plenty of fruit and produce it in large quantities — unlike items that need to be bought with NP.

“Georges’ Fruit Wine” has great potential — both for me and for the village. That’s why I decided to support his brewing efforts however I could. Though honestly, all I can really do is share the knowledge I’ve gained from Japan.

So today, carrying another new bottle of fruit wine from another world, I headed to Georges-san’s brewery.

“Mr. Georges, are you here? I brought another sample of fruit wine from the other world.”

“Oh, Sato-san! You’ve brought more alcohol today, have you?”

“Yes. I thought it might be useful as a reference. How did you find the brewing book I gave you?”

“It was full of good information. Hohoho! I never thought I’d still be learning new things at my age.”

“I’m glad to hear that. That means the gift was worth it. If you ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to tell me.”

“Well… actually, there is something I’d like, if that’s all right?”

He looked a little embarrassed as he said it, but it seemed he had something in mind.

“Of course. I told you to let me know if there’s anything you need. So, what is it?”

“I’d like that bubbly water — the kind that’s in some of those otherworldly drinks.”

“Ah, you mean carbonation?”

Indeed, mixing fruit wine with carbonated water is one of the most common ways to drink it. There are even canned versions like that, so I could see why Georges-san wanted to try using carbonation.

But… carbonation, huh.

I’d bought carbonated water before to mix with whiskey, but I’d never made it myself, so I wasn’t sure how.

If I remember correctly, mixing baking soda and citric acid in water should make carbonated water.
But since I don’t know how to make either ingredient, I’ll just have to buy them with NP.

I took out my tablet and checked the prices — they were cheaper than I expected. Even a kilogram of each wasn’t that expensive, so I bought both baking soda and citric acid.

“What’s that bag you’re holding?”

“With these, we can make bubbly water. Let me show you.”

I borrowed a cup and filled it with cold water freshly drawn from the well. Then I added a teaspoon each of citric acid and baking soda, stirred it together — and sure enough, it started fizzing.

It was my first time making carbonated water, and I was amazed at how easy it was.
And since I’d only used a teaspoon out of a kilogram, it was incredibly cost-effective too.

“Oh! It’s really bubbly!”

“Now we can make sparkling water anytime. Please take these as a gift — I’m sure you’ll find them useful.”

“Well, bless me! I didn’t expect you to gift them right after I mentioned it. I’ll make sure to create a perfect fruit wine worthy of the gesture!”

“No need to pressure yourself. But when you do finish it, I’d like to make it a specialty product of this village.”

“Of course. You’ll be the first one to taste it, so look forward to it.”

“Yes, I’ll be waiting eagerly.”

His eyes burned with passion — and seeing that, I had no doubt he would craft something amazing.

Looking forward to tasting his masterpiece, I left Georges-san’s brewery that day
