Just another Isekai Lover~
Chapter 18: Audience
As expected, I finished reading the five volumes in less than an hour.
My impression? It was far more entertaining than I had imagined.
I was initially expecting something along the lines of a shy protagonist catching the interest of a charming, slightly sadistic male lead, but it turned out to be a love story between a quiet girl nicknamed “Sadako” and a kind, refreshing boy.
If I had to point out a complaint, it would be that I wanted to see how two characters with such different personalities would grow to love each other—but by the end of the first volume, they were already mutual love interests.
By the fifth volume, I was more intrigued by the romance subplot involving the protagonist’s friends than the main characters themselves.
…Honestly, I’m really curious to see how the story unfolds from here.
It was such a cliffhanger that I wanted to buy just the sixth volume, but I knew that doing so would lead me into a never-ending cycle of buying one volume after another. Suppressing my desire, I decided to ask Sheila for her opinion on the manga.
“Sheila, what did you think of the manga?”
“It was so much fun! I’ve never really liked reading books, but having illustrations made it so much easier to visualize. Plus… it really made my heart race! Entertainment in another world is truly amazing.”
“I’m glad you enjoyed it, Sheila.”
“If I may be greedy, though, I’d love to read the next part right now… Would that be possible?”
“I’d like to save my NP, so let’s hold off for now. Honestly, I really want to read the next part, too.”
“You feel the same way, Sato? In that case, the princess might end up squirming with impatience when you give her this!”
It did seem a bit cruel to leave someone hanging like that, but since I’d already bought the manga, it was only right to gift it.
After exchanging thoughts about the manga, Sheila and I finished our preparations and headed straight to the royal castle.
When we spoke to the guards, they promptly escorted us to the king. Soon, we found ourselves in the same throne room we had visited three days earlier.
This time, the throne was occupied by the king instead of the princess. Judging by his warm expression, it was clear we were being welcomed.
“Thank you for granting us some of your time despite your busy schedule.”
“No need for formalities. I hear you visited while I was away. My daughter told me most of the details.”
“I see. Allow me to explain again, then. I came to confirm whether it would be alright to use the land around the villa for farming.”
“Feel free to do so. In fact, you didn’t even need to ask for permission.”
The king gave his approval without hesitation. He wasn’t the stern ruler I had imagined; instead, he came across as a kind and open-minded leader.
“Thank you very much. In that case, we’ll proceed with creating the farm. Also… may I ask one more question?”
“Of course. Is it about monsters?”
“So you’ve already heard. Yes, that’s correct. I have a skill that allows me to tame monsters, and I wanted to ask if it would be acceptable for me to keep one as a companion.”
“A skill to tame monsters… Hmm. At first, I thought you were merely someone who got caught up in circumstances, but now I see you have the makings of a true hero.”
“No, no, I’m really not anything that grand. Sheila even said my abilities are on par with a child’s.”
I had no intention of being overestimated. While I wanted to help where I could, I knew my contributions wouldn’t be anything extraordinary.
“I’ve heard about your stats from the priest as well. It seems you’re not particularly blessed in that regard. Anyway, about the monsters—feel free to keep them. However, ensure they’re managed properly. If any harm comes to others because of them, we will have no choice but to take action.”
“I will make sure to handle them responsibly. Thank you for granting your permission.”
“As I’ve said before, there’s no need for thanks. If anything, it’s us who owe you our gratitude, Sato.”
The king laughed as he spoke, his kind words putting me at ease.
With all the necessary permissions secured, I felt much freer to proceed with my plans.
After exchanging some light hearted updates with the king, we left the throne room.
I also learned that the four heroes who had been summoned alongside me were doing well, which was reassuring news.
“All permissions have been granted.”
“Yes. The fact that the princess had already reported everything to the king beforehand helped a lot.”
“She must really like you. From what I know, the princess doesn’t usually take such proactive steps on her own.”
“Is that so? In any case, let’s give her the manga before we leave. Let’s ask the guards where she is.”
When we inquired with a nearby guard, we learned that the princess was currently in the study. With permission to enter, we made our way there.
Given that it was part of the royal castle, I had imagined the study to be as large as a library. However, it was much smaller than I expected—more in line with what one would typically think of as a personal study.
Perhaps even the king didn’t have the means to amass an enormous collection of books, considering how expensive they were, as evidenced by the prices at the pawnshop.
