Chapter 162: Will of the Dragon Clan
Once Milagros-san had recovered her health, I introduced her to both Sheila-san and Helena.
Since she was a demon, there was naturally some suspicion at first, but once they realized she bore no hostility, the tension quickly faded.
Sheila-san, who had been as stiff as stone during our first year together, has recently grown much more flexible.
That said, she still carries herself like a bodyguard—always ready to draw her blade in an instant.
In the end, Milagros-san decided to stay here until Yato-san and the others arrived, spending most of her time helping in the fields.
She could use advanced magic, and her physical abilities were above average too.
She was also a fast learner, quickly becoming a valuable hand in our work.
According to Sheila-san, demons in general are born with very high specs, and seeing Milagros-san in action, I could tell that was absolutely true.
I would love to ask her to stay longer, but she has her own complicated circumstances.
I can’t just casually make such a request—it’s something to consider only after everything else has settled.
And so—two days after I asked Crow to deliver a letter to Mount Edelgius—
Yato-san and Ashros-san came flying in earlier than expected.
I thought Kurikara-san or Tia-san might come as well, but it seems they’re not so quick to move about.
Still, when Milagros-san saw Yato-san’s dragon form, she was struck completely speechless.
Honestly, a talk with Yato-san alone was already more than enough.
“Getting a letter from you is rare, Sato! I flew over right away!”
“Thank you, Yato-san. The reason I sent the letter is that someone wants to ask you something.”
“Someone who wants to see me? …Would that be the unfamiliar face standing beside you, Sato?”
“Yes, that’s right. Milagros-san, please greet her.”
I gave a little signal to Milagros-san, who had been frozen until now, urging her to introduce herself.
“M-my name is Milagros. Thank you very much for coming all the way here.”
“Mhm. So then, what is it you wish to ask me?”
“Uh, um… I wanted to ask: if war truly breaks out between the Demon Lord’s army and humanity, which side would the Dragon Clan support?”
“A war between the Demon Lord’s army and humans? Quite the question for a first meeting.
In principle, I doubt we would take either side. However—if they were to cause harm here, or to Sato… then I would destroy the Demon Lord’s army.”
Normally, Yato-san is adorable in her human form, but when she declared that, her eyes turned deadly serious.
Even I broke into a cold sweat at the pressure she radiated.
She wasn’t bluffing—she would absolutely destroy them.
The way she said it made me imagine the scene vividly, and I felt her overwhelming force pressing down on me.
“I-I see… Thank you for answering.”
“Mhm. …Hm? Wait, is that all you wanted to ask?”
“Y-yes, I’m sorry. I came all the way from the Demon Lord’s territory just to confirm that one thing.”
“What in the world! That wasn’t worth traveling all the way here for!”
That’s what Yato-san said, but honestly, her words just now changed everything.
Milagros-san now knew the Dragon Clan would not side with the Demon Lord, and that in turn made it much less likely she herself would be forced to oppose us.
More than that, I was happy to know Yato-san genuinely valued this place.
It was also the first time I had seen her show the aura of a true legendary dragon.
“Thank you so much for coming, Yato-san. Now that the matter’s settled, I won’t say ‘please go home.’ Since you came all this way, I’ll treat you to a delicious meal instead.”
“Yay! Wonderful! Then I shall help in the fields again today!”
Just like that, the pressure she had exuded moments ago vanished, and she returned to her usual adorable self.
She skipped straight to the fields, where she and Ashros-san began working side by side.
“…So this is the Dragon Tribe. It’s my first time meeting one, and they’re overwhelming…”
Milagros-san muttered under her breath, trembling from the fear Yato-san had instilled.
“You don’t need to be so afraid. She’s usually very kind, and I’ve never once seen her attack anyone.”
“R-really? From the moment I saw her black dragon form, my body hasn’t stopped shaking.
To witness such overwhelming power and still act so calm—Sato, you’re incredible.”
“Hmm… well, I’m used to it by now.”
Honestly, I never really understood from the start.
Though I could feel the weight of Yato-san’s declaration earlier…
Whenever I see her dragon form, all I can think is how cool it looks.
Maybe the difference in power between us is so vast that I simply can’t sense what others do.
But Milagros-san is strong—strong enough to grasp just how terrifying Yato-san truly is.
“Getting used to that—I can’t even imagine. I don’t think I’d ever get used to it in my life.”
“If you spend more time with her, you might start to understand. In any case… thanks to this, the chance of you and I becoming enemies is close to zero now.”
“Yes. It’s all thanks to you, Sato. Truly, thank you.”
“Not at all. Will you be returning to the Demon Lord’s lands soon?”
“I plan to leave tomorrow morning. So, may I stay here just for today?”
“Of course. I’ll be treating Yato-san to dinner tonight, so please join us. I promise it’ll be even better than the rice porridge I made last time.”
“R-really!? I can’t even imagine a meal tastier than that!”
Rice porridge is good, but it’s best enjoyed as an occasional dish.
Unless you’re someone who prefers light flavors, I’m sure Milagros-san will enjoy my other cooking even more.
“I think you’ll find it delicious. Please look forward to it.”
“Just hearing that has shaken off the last of my fear—I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll work extra hard in the fields today.”
“Yes, thank you. Let’s give it our best.”
And so, we resumed the farmwork we had paused.
Both Yato-san and Milagros-san were motivated by the thought of tonight’s meal—
so I’d better prepare something truly amazing for them.
