Chapter 153: Perfect Day for Farming

A pleasant sunny day with not a single cloud in sight.

The air was dry and refreshing, and the temperature was extremely comfortable.

Today marks the restart of our farming activities, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.

“Ahhh! What a beautiful day. It’s perfect weather for farming!”

“Yes. I remember it was still quite cold around this time last year, but today it’s nice and warm—perfect indeed.”

“Right. I’m thinking of getting started right away… Have you already made the goblin squad your familiars?”

“No, I’m planning to do that now. I’ll handle instructing the goblin squad, so you can go ahead and start the work, Sheila.”

“Understood. I’ll get started right away, then.”

Sheila said this and cheerfully skipped off toward the fields.

Just seeing her back as she walked away made it clear how much she’d been looking forward to today.

After watching her go, I pulled out my tablet and began purchasing goblins.

First, just like with Shirei, I started by selecting a goblin who could serve as the squad leader.

Among the many goblins available, I chose a Goblin Marshal as the new commander.

It cost the same 15,000 NP as Shirei. As a marshal—a commander—it should have the leadership skills to manage the team, just like Shirei.

I tapped the purchase button on the tablet, and a goblin similar in appearance to Shirei appeared.

He didn’t look much different from a regular goblin, but like Shirei, his outfit gave off a smart impression.

Judging from appearance alone, he seemed like he could be a good squad leader.

“Nice to meet you, Goblin Marshal. I’ll be calling you ‘Marshal’ from today. Looking forward to working with you.”

“Uga.”

Marshal responded in a low, subdued tone.

Even that gave off an intelligent vibe, and the fact that he understood my words right away was definitely a plus.

From here, I went on to buy a large number of cheaper goblins.

Well, “cheap” is relative. Since I already purchased all the lower-cost ones last time, only goblins around the 3,000 NP range remained.

Still, that was relatively affordable, so I spent the remaining 25,000 NP on as many as I could get.

The goblins I ended up purchasing were: Bouncer, Mercenary, Fencer, Swordsman, Knight, Soldier, Archer, and Shooter — eight in total.

It felt like I managed to assemble a strong-looking team, but I wasn’t sure if they’d actually be useful for farming.

Other than Marshal, I didn’t expect much. I just hoped they’d at least do the bare minimum.

After greeting the goblins I’d made into familiars, I began teaching Marshal how to do the work.

Since I’d already done this once with Shirei, I carefully and patiently explained everything in detail.

It would likely take around two weeks before they became a reliable force, so I taught them without rushing.

Once I’d taught Marshal the basics, I rejoined Sheila and we began planting seedlings in the skill-enhanced field.

Watching seedlings being planted in the freshly tilled soil was a satisfying sight.

“Sato-san, do you think this looks about right? The first day always feels nice, but with so little work, it feels a bit lacking.”

“Yeah, it’s just planting and watering today. Looks like the other fields are already done too.”

“This field feels almost too small now. With so many familiars, anyone unaware of this place would be shocked.”

“That’s true. With the goblin squad added, there are now more monsters than people. Depending on how you look at it, it might seem like we’re being invaded by monsters.”

Since no outsiders usually come here, I hadn’t paid much attention to appearances, but depending on who saw it, the scene might be alarming.

To make it clear that everything’s okay, we should create something that stands out.

“It would be bad if people misunderstood. The king knows what’s going on, but the general public doesn’t—so it could easily cause a panic.”

“Let’s quickly make something that shows this place is safe. A big sign would probably be best, but we’ll need Sid to help with that.”

“I’m sure Sid could whip up a sign in no time. We’re done with today’s work anyway and have time, so let’s finish it today.”

So we decided to go ahead and build a sign right away.

With magic, we could probably create the sign itself easily. The key was deciding what to put on the sign.

If it just said “It’s Safe,” that might actually come across as creepy. We’d want to add a cute illustration or something.

But… no one here could draw.

The only one who could draw was Velvet.

I’d have to take Ash’s carriage to the capital and ask Velvet if she could draw us a cute illustration.

If she gets praised for her artwork, that might even give her the confidence to publish her manga—it could be a great opportunity.

The only issue is that she’s a princess and probably very busy, but if she has time, I’m sure she’ll come.

And so, after asking Sid to handle the sign, I quickly set off for the capital.
