Chapter 151: Strategy Meeting
A week had passed since the Christmas party ended.
Throughout the week, while cleaning up after the party, I also spent time having fun with Ren and the others who had been staying here long-term.
The Christmas party itself had been a massive upgrade from last year’s, and with more participants, it was incredibly enjoyable.
When Sheila and I first came to this villa together, I never imagined the day would come when it would feel too small.
It just shows how many people support me, and I feel like I was able to repay a bit of that kindness through the party.
I definitely want to host it again next year—no, this year—and make it even better. That’s one of my goals.
Tomorrow, we plan to resume farming. Today is our strategy meeting in preparation for that.
We could have gathered everyone, but I feel like this New Year’s strategy meeting should be just Sheila and me.
“Thank you for making time for this. Today, I’d like to go over our plans for starting farming tomorrow and reflect on the past year.”
“It’s finally time to restart farming tomorrow! Just like last year, the winter season felt so long.”
“I appreciate your enthusiasm, but are you sure you’re not starting to get bored? Farming is kind of repetitive, after all…”
“Not at all! It’s always exciting to see if what we’ve grown will turn into something amazing or delicious. And since we plant different crops each season, I think I could keep doing this for decades without getting bored.”
Not getting bored even after decades… That’s impressive.
She’s right though—changing crops with the seasons makes a big difference.
This is technically my second time planting spring crops, but I barely remember the first time.
Thanks to my skill that speeds up crop growth, I’ve naturally gone through more planting cycles—but even so, each year feels like a fresh experience.
“Decades might be stretching it, but I agree—I don’t see myself getting bored anytime soon. I’m glad you feel the same.”
“That’s my line. If you get bored, it’s all over. You must never get tired of this, okay?”
“Of course. I definitely won’t. And even if I do somehow get tired of it, I’ll still keep going.”
“Fufu, thank you.”
Smiling at each other, we reaffirmed our commitment to continue farming.
At the very least, as long as Sheila’s here, even if I had the chance to return to Japan, I don’t think I’d take it.
I do hope Ren and the others eventually go back, but I personally have no lingering attachments to Japan.
My parents have already passed away, and I didn’t have any friends or a girlfriend because I was a total corporate slave.
Even if I returned, all I’d do is live quietly in the countryside—and compared to that, my current life is hundreds, no, thousands of times better.
Still, if everyone pleaded with me to return to our original world, I’d probably have no choice but to comply.
“Sato-san? You were zoning out—are you okay?”
“Oh, sorry. Nothing’s wrong. Let’s get back to the main topic—the strategy meeting.”
“Right. By ‘strategy meeting,’ are we talking about how to use our points?”
“Yes. We still have a lot of points left over from winter, so I want to decide how to use them.”
Once again this year, I had holed up in the dungeon and saved up around 40,000 NP.
I was planning to use it all for the Christmas party, but even after making all that food, I still had this much left.
“If we go the same route as last year, we’ll either use it to improve the fields or invest in summoning more familiars, right?”
“Exactly. We could also spend it on entertainment, but since we’re about to start farming, I’m not really in the mood for that. So, it’s down to the two choices you mentioned.”
“Just out of curiosity—what upgrades can we make to the fields?”
“We can either add new types of crop seedlings, speed up growth, or improve the overall quality of the harvest.”
“Speeding up growth sounds great! But growing new types of crops is also really tempting…”
This was a tough call.
If we were upgrading skills, I’d prefer speeding up growth.
High turnover is really important.
“If we go with familiars, I’m thinking of expanding the goblin unit. It used to feel like overkill, but if we expand the fields, we’ll need more hands.”
“Hmm… That sounds good too. Expanding the goblin unit would mean focusing on earning money, right?”
“Right. Strengthening skills helps improve efficiency with NP, but the familiars mainly help earn money in this world.”
“Ugh… It’s such a tough decision! We didn’t really need money in this world before, but ever since Rozzo-san and Sid-san arrived, our needs have skyrocketed.”
Sheila’s right. NP used to be the top priority, but lately, the demand for local currency has risen sharply.
Construction, magic tools, salaries for everyone, funds for rare ingredients—it all costs money.
I made quite a bit in the dungeon, but it’s still not enough.
“Exactly. Even building houses costs money. So while leveling up skills is important, I want to earn money in parallel.”
“We can’t accept new settlers in our current state anyway. …After thinking it through, I believe creating a new goblin unit is the better option. Manpower is key!”
“I agree. Speeding up growth was my second choice, but let’s go ahead and build a new goblin unit like last time.”
And so, to prepare for the farming season starting tomorrow, we decided to create a new goblin unit.
We’ll expand the regular fields and focus on growing more crops to sell.
