Chapter 143: A Long-Awaited Return to the Villa
It’s been a while since I’ve been to the villa.
Just like last year, the scenery upon returning really lifts my spirits.
“It’s been a while since we were at the villa! Just like last year, I can’t help but feel excited.”
“I feel the same way. The dungeon was fun, but farming is on a whole different level.”
Agreeing with Sheila’s comment, I couldn’t help but feel naturally excited about being back at the villa.
And perhaps noticing the arrival of our carriage, Sid and the others came out to greet us.
Even Crow, who usually flies in the sky, and Ash, who’s always running around, were there—and seeing all these familiar faces again filled me with joy.
At a glance, I could see some new buildings had gone up, which made it clear that everyone had been working hard through the winter. That fact alone made me more excited.
“Sato, you’re finally back. I was seriously getting tired of waiting.”
“As I mentioned before, we spent the winter diving into the dungeon, so our return was a bit delayed.”
“Yeah, I knew that. Still, it felt like forever. Most importantly, I’m just glad everyone’s safe.”
Even before Sid spoke, I could already feel how much he and the others had worried about us. That thought filled me with warmth.
“Thank you for worrying about us. I’m relieved to see your face again too, Sid.”
“Really? You don’t exactly look thrilled to see me.”
“That’s not true at all. Not just you, Sid—Crow and Ash are here too. Honestly, I’ve been looking forward to coming back for about a week now.”
“Is that so? Well, good to hear.”
Sid’s expression looked a bit embarrassed. It was clear he had also been looking forward to our return.
His obvious shift in expression warmed my heart, and with that, we headed inside the villa.
“Phew… This place feels as comforting as my own home.”
“After two months away, it really hits harder. It may belong to the king, not me, but I think I feel even safer here than at home.”
“Same here. Just knowing I can get back to farming again fills me with peace.”
Once inside, Sheila and I started chatting lazily about how great the villa was.
Helena didn’t quite seem to feel the same yet, but I’m sure by next year she’ll feel the same way we do.
“It’s so comforting here that I almost want to just laze around forever… But Sheila, I’m guessing you want to eat some of the food from my world again, right?”
“Of course! Cup noodles weren’t bad, but nothing beats your cooking, Sato!”
“Master, I want to eat, too! I bet Joel and Brittany want some, too!”
“Well, if that’s how you all feel, I guess I’ll get cooking. Just wait a little longer, okay?”
And so, I ended up making the usual Japanese-style meal.
Those of us who had gone to the dungeon at least had some cup noodles, but those who stayed at the villa couldn’t even eat that.
As a way to show appreciation to both groups, I decided to make some Japanese food.
But with a Christmas party coming up soon, I wanted to keep it simple and cheap.
After thinking it over, I settled on making karaage (Japanese fried chicken), and immediately started prepping.
With Sheila helping with the meat preparation, I began frying up the chicken steadily.
While I did that, the rice finished cooking, which meant it was time for a karaage party.
After asking Sheila to go call Lua and the others who had gone back to their homes, we all sat down to eat the freshly fried chicken together.
“Sato’s cooking after so long… My stomach hasn’t stopped growling—it’s wild!”
“Same here! The smell alone is overwhelming!”
“Would’ve been great if Yato could eat with us too, though. Too bad Yato and Ashros went straight home. Poor guys, they missed out.”
Just like Brittany said, it’s kind of sad that Yato and Ashros aren’t here with us.
But I’ll make it up to them at the upcoming Christmas party.
For now, I just want us to enjoy this meal without thinking too hard about anything else.
“We’re planning to have a Christmas party soon, so I’ll make sure they have fun then. I do feel a little bad, but let’s not worry about it and just enjoy our food.”
“A Christmas party!? That sounds like so much fun!”
“We had one last year too, and it was amazing. …But never mind that right now—I just want to eat already!”
“True. Let’s talk about the party while we eat. For now, it’s karaage time!”
With that, we gave our thanks before the meal and dove into the karaage.
Freshly fried and juicy—real Japanese food after a long time was honestly so delicious it nearly brought tears to my eyes.
Cup noodles are great, but nothing beats a properly cooked meal. It really hits the spot.
From the bottom of my heart, I savoured the long-awaited karaage.
