Chapter 138: Well-Balanced
Several hours after we arrived at the dungeon, we were able to meet up with Yato-san and Ashros-san, who had arrived a bit later.
I had been worried whether they’d make it to the dungeon town, but it seems Ashros guided them without getting lost.
Since she can fly freely through the sky, it’s apparently hard for her to lose her way. Having wings really is enviable.
I found myself wanting to see Ashros’s “Dragon Form” too, as we all prepared to enter the dungeon.
Since it was the first time exploring the dungeon for the parties of Lua, Portia, and Yato, they split off at the entrance to receive guidance from Ren and the others.
Because Sheila and I had prior experience, our party was allowed to enter first.
“A dungeon after so long… I’m so excited!”
“Me too. I’ve been working hard in my own way, so I hope I can defeat at least one monster.”
“I will give Master my full support!”
Despite announcing my goal early on, my role is the same as before — carrying supplies.
I brought a large hiking backpack, so I’m fully prepared to haul back a large number of drop items.
We’ll try monster hunting later — for now, the plan is to reach the 20th floor in this expedition.
With Sheila, Helena, and Thread with us, it should go more smoothly than last time.
As expected, we easily made it to the 10th floor — our previous record.
We hadn’t entered the dungeon at all for an entire year, but thanks to our two months of focused training, our bodies remembered everything clearly.
Helena’s magic is a great asset, and Thread has truly shown his worth within the dungeon.
Until recently, I’d only seen Thread in his weakened daytime form, so I was shocked by how strong he’s become.
“Whew. Another Minotaur down.”
“Sheila, Helena, and Thread — you’re all so strong! Everything was so stable!”
“There’s no way I’d let a Minotaur give me trouble in front of Master.”
Helena wiped out the enemy with magic, and her confident words were reassuring.
We originally only planned to go as far as the 10th floor today, but maybe we could press on a little further.
“I’m really glad Helena is part of our team. So, what now? This was the planned floor, but shall we go a bit deeper?”
“I think we should. We’re moving at our fastest pace yet, and we still have plenty of stamina left.”
“I’ll leave the decision to Master.”
“Then let’s head for the 13th floor today. Let’s move forward — but no letting our guard down.”
And so, on our first day, we surpassed our previous highest floor.
It’s unexplored territory, but from what I’ve heard from Ren and the others, there shouldn’t be any major issues.
Our roles were the same as in the Minotaur battle:
- Sheila as the leader and main attacker
- Thread as the tank
- Helena as magic DPS and support
- And I’m the pack mule
Though I’m not much help in battle, carrying items is an essential role in dungeon exploration.
I committed myself to hauling supplies and supporting our solid trio.
Thanks to our well-defined roles — even more than last year — we progressed through floors 11 and 12 with no trouble, and soon reached our goal: the 13th floor.
“We made it to the 13th floor with no problems. The drop items are looking great too.”
“Helena’s impact is bigger than I expected. Last year, we were stalled by flying monsters, but now she just knocks them out of the sky with magic, so it’s much easier.”
“Master plays a big role, of course, but I think Thread is the biggest contributor. No monsters have reached me thanks to him.”
Thread pointed at me and nodded repeatedly in response to those words.
It seemed like he was complimenting me, but… I didn’t really do anything.
Still, I was grateful for Thread’s thoughtfulness.
Everyone seemed to have their own take, but we were all praising and appreciating each other. The mood was fantastic.
“It’s still only the first day and I’ve mostly been watching from the back, but the atmosphere is perfect, and the balance of the party is excellent. At this rate, we’ll reach the 20th floor easily.”
“Master, shall we reach it today?”
“No, let’s head back for now. I do feel like we could keep going, but winter is long. I want us to operate under a safety-first principle.”
“I agree with Sato-san. Getting injured during a dungeon crawl is the worst-case scenario.”
With Sheila’s agreement, we decided to wrap up today’s expedition at the 13th floor.
We’d reached our highest floor ever, and still had plenty of time to spare.
The good mood made it tempting to let our guard down, but we stayed alert until we were out of the dungeon.
We kept our eyes open the whole way back, just in case a monster room appeared out of nowhere.
