Chapter 131: Overprotective Parent
It seemed that not only Kurikara-san, but also Tia-san enjoyed the milk tea, as both of them finished their cups in no time.
As an icebreaker, it was a huge success—their satisfied expressions made that clear.
“Sato-san, that was absolutely delicious. Thank you so much.”
“Without question, it was the best drink I’ve ever had! I want a second cup!”
“Dear, don’t be greedy now.”
“It’s no problem at all. There’s still more, so I’ll bring seconds. I plan to add a little twist to it—Tia-san, would you like some too?”
“Oh, a twist, you say… In that case, I’d love to try it as well.”
“Of course.”
So this time, instead of the standard milk tea from earlier, I decided to serve them an arranged milk tea—made with Queen Needle honey.
With its richer sweetness, fragrance, and depth of flavor, this version brought visible awe to both Kurikara-san and Tia-san.
Though we hadn’t talked about much yet, I felt confident they now understood why Yato-san was so drawn to this place.
Using food as a means of persuasion was a bit forceful, but often the most effective.
“My ‘number one drink’ has just been instantly dethroned!? Sato, are you a beverage-making professional!?”
“Not at all. I think even you could make it, Kurikara-san.”
“A drink where sweetness, aroma, and richness blend so elegantly and delicately—I could make that!?”
“Yes. I’m sure you could.”
“I see… I regretfully admit that I now understand why Yato and Ashros spoke so passionately about you.”
“Yes. It’s more delicious than anything in the Dragon Village. I see now why Yato wants to visit this place.”
Just as planned, both Kurikara-san and Tia-san were convinced.
Relieved, I decided to ask a bit more directly.
“You came today out of concern, right? Please know that I have absolutely no intention of using Yato-san, nor will I ever put her in danger. Of course, I understand if you’re still skeptical.”
“Not at all—I already trust you. I even watched you working earlier. I’ve never seen Yato look so happy or focused before. She’s even started doing more on her own back in the Dragon Village, just so she can come here… And more than anything, I could tell from your eyes, Sato-san. You’re trustworthy.”
Hearing those words from Tia-san made me unbelievably happy.
She had been the one keeping Kurikara-san in check the whole time, and her warm smile showed what a truly kind person she was.
“I still don’t trust you completely… but I do feel reassured that you’re not using Yato. You’re weak, aren’t you, Sato?”
“Embarrassingly, yes. My stats rate me on par with a human child.”
“Hahaha! I knew it! Yato likes strong men, so I don’t need to worry about that. And now that I know she comes here for tasty drinks, there’s no need to be on guard anymore.”
Compared to Tia-san, those reasons felt kind of depressing to me, but I appreciated that Kurikara-san was finally letting his guard down.
“I’m not sure if ‘thank you’ is appropriate, but… thank you for easing your suspicion.”
“That’s not the right response! Sato-san, feel free to give this man a piece of your mind, alright?”
“That’s a bit much. Besides, I completely understand Kurikara-san’s behavior was all out of concern for Yato-san.”
“Heh, you really understand people, Sato-san.”
“Hmph! Hey, Sato! Tia! Don’t look at me with those smug, heartwarming faces! I wasn’t acting out of concern or anything!”
A gruff older man blushing? Who’s that for? But Kurikara-san was turning bright red, in an adorably awkward way.
He even started covering his face with both hands.
“Being worried about your child is perfectly natural—nothing to be embarrassed about.”
“I’m not embarrassed!”
“Hehehe, you’re quite the interesting one, Sato-san. You’re probably the weakest person my husband has ever met, and yet you’re the most composed in front of him.”
“Is that… okay? Kurikara-san won’t retaliate later or anything… right?”
“I’ll punch him later!”
“Don’t worry—I won’t let that happen. And besides, he’s all talk.”
“Let’s hope it stays that way.”
Yato-san’s parents are truly a wonderful couple.
Since I had heard Yato ran away from home, I was worried they might be toxic parents—but now I can see how much they love her, and that’s a relief.
“Anyway… now that you understand Yato-san dropping by occasionally, I’d like to offer some hospitality.”
“Hospitality? As in, something more than milk tea?”
“Yes. Milk tea was just the welcome drink. Kurikara-san, you mentioned that Yato comes here for tasty drinks—but those are just the bonus.”
“Milk tea is a bonus!? Y-you mean… there are still more delicious things here?”
“Exactly. I’ll be preparing them now, so please wait a moment.”
“T-terrifying!”
Chuckling at Kurikara-san’s Munch-style scream of terror, I headed into the kitchen.
As expected of Yato-san’s father, he was expressive and delightfully amusing.
Though it felt like the conversation had already been resolved, you could say this is where the real part begins.
Now, with some delicious Japanese cuisine, I’ll win them over even more.
