Chapter 128 – Treated as a Delicacy
“I’d really love to meet that Delicacy Hunter sometime. Since I’m from another world, I have absolutely no resistance to eating monster-based food.”
“I figured as much. Personally, I didn’t care for anything other than the Queen Needle honey, but you, Sato, might be able to discover some truly interesting ingredients. If there’s a chance, I’ll bring them along next time.”
If I can get a good story out of it, maybe I’ll consult with Lua and the others and have them hunt some tasty monsters. I mean, we’ve got skilled adventurers living nearby—no reason not to make use of them.
“Thanks a lot. Also, would it be alright if I used some of that honey to cook something?”
“Of course! I brought it partly for that reason.”
“Thanks! I’ll whip something up real quick, then.”
With the Queen Needle honey in hand, I headed to the kitchen to make dessert.
There are lots of things you can make with honey, but I think the best way to really appreciate the flavor is with pancakes.
Up until now, I’ve been using this world’s regular honey, so the difference in taste should be even more pronounced.
The Queen Needle honey already tasted better than the honey sold in Japan.
I quickly bought a pancake mix and used a frying pan to cook.
All you need is milk and eggs with this mix, which makes things super simple.
I really wanted to add vanilla ice cream on top, but since I was testing the honey’s flavor, I decided to keep it simple: just butter and honey.
Knowing they’d be sad if they found out later, I also made pancakes for Sheila and Helena, who were playing in the entertainment room, and brought them all to the living room.
“Thank you for waiting. These are pancakes.”
“My first time trying these. Are they kind of like bread?”
“Yes, you could say they’re sweet and fluffy bread. That’s a good way to think of it.”
I thought I’d served them to Velvet-san before, but apparently, I’d only ever made them for Sheila.
With it being Velvet’s first pancake and having Queen Needle honey on it, there’s no doubt she’d love it.
“That just sounds delicious! I’m digging in. —Delicious! The sweetness and richness hit the moment you take a bite!”
“Looks like it’s a hit. I’ll try mine, too.”
I took a bite of the pancake soaked in Queen Needle honey.
—It really is delicious!
It was good on its own, but when combined with the pancake, the taste multiplied exponentially.
The butter brought out the best of the strong aroma and sweetness of the Queen Needle honey.
Pancakes are already the perfect base—no wonder I couldn’t stop eating.
Out of all the desserts I’ve made since coming to this world, this one was by far the best.
“Haaah, that was so good! I scarfed it down in no time.”
“I did too. This has to be the best thing I’ve made yet.”
“Hey, can I have these last two—?”
Velvet was eyeing the pancakes I had made for Sheila and Helena, but stopped mid-sentence as she looked behind me.
I turned too—and there were Sheila and Helena, staring intently from outside the door.
“…Were you eating dessert in secret without us? That’s so unfair, Sato-san, Velvet-sama! That’s just cruel!”
“Master! No sneaking snacks!”
They stormed in, clearly upset and maybe a little hurt.
It seemed Velvet had been eyeing their pancakes, but luckily I had already made theirs—so it was all just a big misunderstanding.
“It’s a misunderstanding! I really did make these for you two. I was just about to come get you.”
“…Really?”
“Yes, really. Have a seat and try them. Velvet-san brought some delicious honey, and it’s made the pancakes even better than before.”
“…I’m sorry for doubting you, Sato-san. I’ll have some now!”
“I’m sorry too! Thank you for making them!”
The sad expressions from earlier vanished instantly.
Smiling brightly, Sheila and Helena took their seats and began eating the pancakes I had prepared.
“—This is amazing! What’s with these pancakes!? They’re way better than before!”
“They really are delicious! Master, all your cooking is great, but this might be the best yet.”
“It’s all thanks to the honey Velvet-san brought. Don’t worry, I won’t take yours—enjoy at your own pace.”
It had been a tense moment, but the pancakes turned it all around, bringing a warm, cheerful atmosphere.
Just like we’d all agreed—they were really good.
I used to think this world didn’t have any tasty ingredients, but monsters might be hiding some incredible flavors.
Alongside farming, I decided to start hunting for delicious monster ingredients as well…
And so, I spent the rest of the evening basking in a lively and joyful night.
