Chapter 117: Adventure Tale
About two weeks had passed since Yato and the others had last visited.
Because Yato-san was far more boisterous than expected, things now felt unusually quiet.
It was a little lonely, sure, but spending peaceful, quiet time like this was really enjoyable too.
As I was thinking that while harvesting the Bright Voice herbs, Lua and the others returned—looking completely exhausted.
Their clothes were in tatters, and Brittany-san was covered in wounds.
Still, all three of them had bright, satisfied expressions on their faces.
“Lua-san, Brittany-san, Joel-kun. You’re back! You all look pretty beat up, though—are you okay?”
“Definitely not okay. I’ve got fractures in my left pinky and middle finger.”
“I sprained my right wrist!”
“I’m unharmed, but my shield is completely destroyed.”
“You really are in rough shape… but your faces look cheerful.”
Their bodies were just as battered as their appearances suggested, yet they looked strangely happy. It was a bit bewildering.
“You noticed!? It was so tough, but it was so much fun!”
“I’ve been an adventurer for a long time, but this time? This was by far the most exciting.”
“I feel the same. I only became an adventurer because I was invited, but I’m truly glad I did.”
I didn’t know what had happened, but one thing was clear—they had a great time.
Seeing them so full of joy… honestly, I felt a little jealous.
“It was that fun, huh? I’d love to hear all about it—but first, please take your time to rest. I’ll make dinner tonight, so just relax until then.”
“Satou-san, thank you! Just thinking about getting to eat your cooking again after coming back—it’s bliss!”
“I couldn’t agree more. We’ll tell you all about it during dinner, so look forward to it.”
“Alright, I’ll be waiting!”
After seeing the three of them off toward the house, I resumed harvesting.
I looked forward to hearing their story while thinking about what to make for dinner.
—That evening.
Apparently, they all fell asleep as soon as they got home, and now they looked freshly woken up.
I was a little worried if they could eat right after waking up…
But the moment the food was placed in front of them, they immediately perked up.
Tonight’s dinner was tempura.
We were able to harvest vegetables from Lua-san’s field, so I deep-fried a variety of them to a perfect crisp.
I also used NP to purchase udon noodles and shrimp, planning to serve tempura udon.
Since they were just back from an adventure, I considered a heartier meal—but I really wanted to use the freshly harvested vegetables.
“Ahhh… This is so delicious! Fried food really is the best! Your variety of recipes never ceases to amaze me!”
While Sheila-san was singing praises, Lua and the others were stuffing their cheeks with food.
Everyone knew the kind of meals one could get while traveling—and the ingredients in this world generally aren’t very tasty to begin with.
After two weeks of that, Japanese cuisine must have tasted absolutely divine.
Watching them all eat so happily, I slowly enjoyed my own bowl of tempura udon.
“Phew… That was really good. We said we’d talk over dinner, but we ended up eating in complete silence.”
“We totally zoned out and just kept eating! Alright, I’ll tell you what happened now!”
“Please, do tell.”
And so, the three of them began telling me about their adventure.
Judging by how satisfied they looked, they must’ve accomplished something big—I was really looking forward to hearing it.
“We set off toward the borderlands, aiming to uncover the truth behind the white smoke!”
“We reached the border without issue, but I got us lost after that… My memory of the place was fuzzy.”
“Lua’s biggest weakness is her terrible sense of direction. Thanks to that, we ended up going in circles a few times.”
“I truly am sorry about that. Still, with Brittany’s guidance, we eventually managed to reach the source of the white smoke.”
“So that means… you figured out what the white smoke was?”
“Yes! But… it turned out to just be hot water.”
Their expressions looked a bit disappointed—but hot water? That means it was a natural hot spring!
As a Japanese person, I really want to go in a hot spring!
“That’s amazing! Did you go in?”
“Hm? We touched it, but didn’t actually bathe in it.”
“The smell was really strong, and it didn’t seem drinkable either! But what happened after discovering the source of the white smoke was the fun part!”
Apparently, near the hot spring was the territory of a monster called a Battle Ape, and they ended up in a fierce fight with its boss, the Battle Kong.
They managed to defeat it and even recovered a stash of treasure it had hidden.
But… my mind was completely overtaken by the idea of the hot spring.
I felt bad for Joel-kun, who was excitedly telling the story, but I could only half-listen from that point on.
