Chapter 112: Hospitality

“…Are you hungry?”

“I am not—no, I am! I passed out because I was too hungry! Are you satisfied now that you’ve heard it!?”

She tried to look intimidating with a “Grr!” face, but since she wasn’t in her dragon form, it just looked cute.

It was hard to believe a dragon could faint from hunger, but judging by her embarrassed reaction, she wasn’t lying—I was convinced it was true.

“I’m not particularly satisfied, but in any case, I’ll cook something for you. So, how much food do you usually eat?”

“…You’re going to give me food?”

“If you’re hungry, I can’t just ignore that. If it turns out you need dozens of kilos, I might not be able to feed you until you’re full, though.”

“I thought you were a mean one, but you’re actually kind! I’m in human form right now, so I don’t eat that much! Still, I’m really hungry, so I might eat enough for two people!”

“Got it. I’ll get started right away—come with me to the house.”

“Very well! Sorry for acting all high and mighty. You’re a good human!”

Hearing that she’d be getting food, Yato’s whole demeanor became visibly excited. With how expressive she was, she really just seemed like an ordinary girl.

On the way to the villa, Crow—the familiar who had found Yato—came flying down.

He seemed concerned about her and kept checking in on her condition.

“Oh, that monster is my familiar—his name is Crow. He found you and carried you here.”

“I see! I vaguely remember… He protected me from other monsters!”

“Is that so? Crow, well done.”

“Indeed! You were a great help!”

Yato patted Crow, who looked very pleased with himself. Somehow, it felt like he was fond of Yato. Maybe he recognized that she was a dragon, the top of the species hierarchy.

After watching them play for a bit, I went back into the villa to start cooking.

It didn’t matter what I made, but since I had the chance, I decided to serve her Japanese cuisine.

Dragons are typically seen as meat-eaters, but I wonder if she’d eat vegetables too?

“Yato, can you eat vegetables?”

“Yes! I don’t like them, but I can eat them! I definitely don’t like them, but if it’s offered, I won’t complain!”

“Understood.”

She emphasized how much she disliked them, so she probably didn’t want to eat them at all.

I had wanted to use the vegetables from the garden, but since she doesn’t like them, a meat dish it is.

If we’re talking about affordable and delicious meat dishes… shōgayaki (ginger pork) comes to mind.

Not sure if she’d like the punchy ginger flavor, but it’s a truly tasty dish, so I decided on it.

I bought some pork loin, seasoned it with salt and pepper, coated it in flour, and started cooking it.

Once it browned, I added mirin, soy sauce, and sugar, along with grated ginger to mix into the sauce—then topped it with thinly sliced ginger to finish.

It was a ginger-heavy version of shōgayaki, but it’s easy to make and absolutely delicious.

“That smells so good! Hurry, let me eat already!”

“It’s ready now, just a little longer, please.”

“Satou’s cooking is always amazing, Yato! You’re going to be blown away! I can’t wait to eat too!”

With their eyes sparkling, I brought over the shōgayaki and rice.

I hadn’t had time to cook fresh rice, so I just reheated some leftovers from yesterday—it should be fine.

“This is… what kind of dish is this? I’ve never seen anything like it!”

“Me neither! This is the first time you’ve made it, right!?”

“Yes, this is called shōgayaki. It might have a strong flavor, but I think you’ll like it.”

I personally enjoy the taste of ginger, but for someone unfamiliar, it can be quite unique.

I watched their reactions with curiosity.

While Yato hesitated a little, Sheila didn’t wait at all—she scooped some pork and rice together and put it in her mouth.

Her face lit up in bliss—at that moment, Yato’s stomach gave a loud growl.

“…Ahhh. It’s so delicious! Satou’s cooking really is something else!”

“I-I’m eating too!”

Following Sheila’s lead, Yato clumsily picked up the food with her chopsticks and put it in her mouth.

The big smile that spread across her face showed immediately that she liked it.

“It—it’s too delicious! W-what is this!? What is this food that tastes this amazing!?”

“This is what Satou’s cooking is like!”

“A genius! Satou is amazing!”

“There’s no need to rush—I’m not going to take it from you.”

Watching Yato eagerly devour the food made me smile without realizing it.

She may be a dragon, but her expressive, cute personality made her seem like just an ordinary girl.

After enjoying their reactions for a bit, I took a bite of the shōgayaki myself.

—Yup, it’s absolutely delicious.

The ginger flavor was strong, but perfectly balanced with the sauce.

The meat wasn’t tough, and it paired wonderfully with the rice.

The three of us enjoyed the shōgayaki together and ate until we were full.
