Chapter 5: Leveling Up with Magic Stones

Geo’s Home Garden
Level 1 1/5
Garden Area: 50/50
Skill: None

It seemed that this “1/5” number could be increased by one fraction if I used a magic stone.
Could it be… that something extraordinary would happen if it reached 5/5?
“Sena, do you have any other magic stones lying around?” I asked.
“I’ve got some!” she replied cheerfully.
Sena dug into her pocket and produced a jingling handful of magic stones, each glinting faintly in the light.
“Can you really get this many?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah. Normally, people wouldn’t bother bringing ones this small back home, though,” she said with a shrug.
Ever since she was little, Sena had the habit of bringing home things that weren’t exactly needed—cicada shells, flowers picked from the roadside, random trinkets.
Usually, I ended up discarding them, because once she brought them inside, they’d sit neglected in corners until I finally cleaned them up.
“Can I have all of these?” I asked.
“Sure, but only if you promise we’ll have stew tomorrow too,” she bargained with a mischievous grin.
“Deal,” I replied. That was a small price to pay.
Altogether, Sena handed me twelve magic stones. Without wasting a moment, I placed them on the garden plot.
〈Do you want to use the magic stones?〉
“Yes… use them all,” I said.
“Hmm? Onii-chan, who are you talking to?” Sena asked, tilting her head in curiosity.
“Don’t worry about it,” I replied with a small smile.
All twelve magic stones vanished in an instant.
“They’re gone again!?” Sena exclaimed, eyes wide.
And then, just as I had hoped, a familiar, expectant voice echoed in my mind:
〈Level up achieved〉
Yes! It worked!

Geo’s Home Garden
Level 2 8/10
Garden Area: 50/100
Skill: None

So this number really did correspond to my garden’s level. Out of thirteen magic stones in total, five had been consumed to achieve this level-up, leaving me at 8/10. That meant I would need two more stones to reach the next level.
〈Your garden’s area can be expanded due to the level-up. Expand?〉
I nodded eagerly. The garden’s area, which had previously held only fifty plots, doubled to one hundred.
〈The level-up has unlocked new crops for cultivation. Would you like to check them?〉
Apparently, more types of crops had become available:
- Bell Pepper — Medium Quality
- Broccoli — Medium Quality
- Cabbage — Medium Quality
- Sweet Potato — Medium Quality
- Spinach — Medium Quality
Some of these vegetables were unfamiliar to me. Sweet potato… what exactly is that? Perhaps a type of tuber?
Regardless, it was clear that with magic stones, I could continue to expand and improve my garden significantly.
As an adventurer, it seemed small magic stones were plentiful, and from now on, I could count on Sena to bring them home for me.
Using the magic stones Sena brought, I steadily raised the garden’s level. At Level 5, a remarkable change occurred.

Geo’s Home Garden
Level 5 8/25
Garden Area: 200/800
Skill: Fence Creation
―――――――――――
〈Skill Acquired: Fence Creation〉
“Whoa… it looks like I’ve learned a skill. Fence Creation…?”
〈Do you want to create a fence?〉
I decided to try it. Yes.
In an instant, the shabby wooden fence that had surrounded our yard was replaced by a tall, sturdy barrier. It was solid and imposing, cutting off any view from the outside.
“This is amazing… no one can peek in now,” I muttered. I had always worried about outsiders seeing into our yard, especially when the crops occasionally hopped or shook on their own during harvest. Anyone catching a glimpse of that would surely be startled.
It seemed that the maximum garden area doubled with each level-up, reaching eight hundred plots. However, having already used the entire yard space, only 200 plots were practically usable, so further expansion would be difficult.
The range of cultivable crops also increased, including many I had never heard of.
Vegetables were no longer the limit—mushrooms and even fruits could now be grown. Fruits, being rare and expensive, were especially coveted.
“Fruit paradise~!”
Sena, naturally fond of sweets, was thrilled to be able to eat as much fruit as she wanted.
Currently, we could grow ten types of fruits: strawberries, grapes, apples, melons, pears, oranges, kiwis, figs, muscats, and grapefruits. All medium quality, but unquestionably delicious.
“Onii-chan, you’re amazing! This is such an incredible gift! You could take over the world with this!”
“Uh… how exactly do you take over the world with a home garden?” I muttered. Her comments were always half-joking, and I simply let them slide.
“If we use more magic stones, I think we could grow even more things,” I suggested.
“I’ll work hard to bring lots more back!” Sena replied with unusual determination.
It was rare for our lazy little sister to get this motivated. Having received a gift like [Blessing of the Sword god], I hoped she would truly give it her all.
“Just… don’t overdo it, okay?” I warned.
“No worries. My policy is never to push myself to the point of death,” she said casually.
“Well, I think even you should make an exception if you were ever on the brink of death,” I joked.
The very next day, she returned from an adventure, practically bursting with excitement:
“Onii-chan! I got a huge magic stone!”
She held it up triumphantly—a fist-sized gem that sparkled like a captured star.
“This could sell for a decent price, but I’m giving it to you!”
“Thanks… I’ve been wanting to try this,” I said.
Until now, I had been slowly raising the garden’s level with small stones. But I had long wondered what would happen if I used a big one.
As higher levels required more stones, it had become harder to advance, but perhaps this one could propel the garden forward dramatically. I knew there was a chance it might count as only a single stone… but it was worth a try.
I placed the magic stone carefully.
〈Level up achieved〉

Geo’s Home Garden
Level 7 3/35
Garden Area: 200/3200
Skill: Fence Creation

Level 7… just like that!? I had only been Level 5 with 8/25 before. That meant this single large stone was equivalent to forty normal magic stones.
〈The level-up has unlocked new crops for cultivation. Would you like to check them?〉
- Beef — Medium Quality
- Chicken — Medium Quality
- Pork — Medium Quality
- Lamb — Medium Quality
- Goat Meat — Medium Quality
- Quail — Medium Quality
- Chicken Eggs — Medium Quality
- Quail Eggs — Medium Quality
- Cow’s Milk — Medium Quality
- Goat Milk — Medium Quality
Yes! I could now cultivate meat!
