Chapter 67. Let’s Think About New Bread — Part 4: The One Who Shines in the End
All the curry breads were incredibly delicious.
Honestly, the dough didn’t even matter anymore—whether it was baked or fried—because the fillings is just so tasty.
Any dough, any cooking method, it’s delicious.
Eh, what is this?
Isn’t Martha-san amazing?
How is it that with just my vague instructions, she can make such delicious dry curry that pairs perfectly with bread?
She only used about three or four kinds of spices, right? But this has turned into a truly mouthwatering curry, hasn’t it?
The flavor is quite rich and spicy enough, but the sweetness of the onions adds depth. The curry filling and the bread dough blend together so well that they seem to finish cooking in the mouth, creating a perfect harmony!
So tasty!
If I really had to find a difference, I’d say that the fried version has fewer air pockets between the filling and the bread, making it easier to eat. The dough is fluffy and chewy, especially the water roux dough—delicious.
And the baked ones—well, they have a wonderful crispy and fragrant texture to them that’s irresistible, and when you bite into it, the curry inside oozes out. It seems baking it concentrated the flavor even more. So good!
“Spicy, but so delicious…”
Luna said with tears in her eyes as she ate.
It seems they can’t stop eating even though it’s spicy.
“This is really good,”
Jude-san closed his eyes in ecstasy and licked the oil and sauce off his hand with a wistful look. It was bad manners, but I understand how he felt.
“This is a revolution in baked bread!! Wait, are these fried or baked??”
Oldman Jill looks confused.
“I made it a little too spicy, huh? And the texture still needs some improvement. Should I just use tomatoes without adding water entirely?”
Martha-san muttered while eating, lost in thought. can it get any tastier from here…?
It’s hard to imagine how it could.
“It’s delicious! Delicious, but could I make this filling all by myself…?”
Ann mumbled quietly to herself as she ate.
Apparently, even watching the cooking process up close, it’s still a mystery how it tastes so good. Yeah, I get it…
“Frying bread… If you fry it without baking, does it get this kind of texture?”
Ah, so that’s the idea—no one would’ve thought of frying the bread dough itself, rather than baking it. Larry-san also looked deep in thought. It’s very professional—he’s tasting the dough itself, not just being swayed by how good the filling is. Amazing.
When we think of bread, we usually imagine it being baked in a bread oven. Stone ovens require a lot of wood, after all.
Although good oil is a luxury, is being able to make bread without using a huge amount of firewood might actually an advantage?
Oh, I heard there’s also a magic oven tool. But Larry-san seems to be particular about the stone oven.
Well, I guess I can save talking about yeast donuts for next time…
And I also love bagels—boiled and then baked bread—but that can wait for another time too…
I was thinking, maybe I’ll cheat with my knowledge and become the unrivaled master of dry yeast?
But in the end, it’s Martha-san’s cooking prowess that shines through.
Martha-san is just incredible. And I, who brought her here, must surely be pretty amazing too. Yeah.
Since it’s the last day of the holiday, I’ll leave what I’ve written here as a short escape from reality.
And I’ve also written a completely different short story some time ago, so if you have a bit of free time, please check that out as well.
