Chapter 25: The Princess’s Desperate Act
“Alright. Here we are.”
“Wha—!?”
I teleported directly in front of the entrance gate to Weimar’s royal capital, causing the guard on duty to shout in surprise.
“Oh, did I scare you? My bad.”
“Uh? Oh, y-you’re…”
“Since I’ve already startled you, could you call someone high up in national defense for me?”
“Uh, wh-what?”
Tsk, what’s with this guy? He’s all flustered and completely useless.
As I considered looking for someone else, a figure approached us.
“What’s all this commotion!?”
Oh, I recognize this guy. He’s the one I talked to the last time I was here.
“Yo, long time no see.”
When I raised a hand in greeting, the man’s face twisted in astonishment.
“K-Kenta Maya!?”
“Yeah. You’ll do. Go get someone in charge of national defense, will you?”
“Trouble again?”
“Yeah, you could call it trouble.”
I gestured toward the rope in my hand. The man followed my gaze, and the sight made him clutch his mouth.
“This… This is one of our soldiers, isn’t it?”
“Urp… What?”
Still nauseous, the man reluctantly examined the corpses.
“…It’s true. These are our standard-issue uniforms, but… no way…”
Figures. He’s doubting me again.
“Are you blind? Look at the other bodies.”
“Others? Oh, t-this is!?”
“That armor is from Admos, right?”
When I asked, he nodded repeatedly.
“Admos soldiers killed your guards and infiltrated the forest. This guy here is a witness.”
I shoved the lone surviving Admos soldier, tied up with rope, in front of him.
“Admos soldiers killed our men!? This is a serious issue!”
“Which is why I told you to fetch someone in charge of defense.”
“U-understood. Someone! Go report this to the castle!!”
At his command, a soldier mounted a horse and galloped toward the royal palace.
As I watched him leave, the man lowered his head toward me.
“What now?”
“I-I’m sorry for doubting you without proof.”
“Whatever. As long as you get it.”
No point wasting energy on every little offense. If he’s apologizing, that’s enough for me.
We waited a few minutes, and then something familiar caught my eye.
A royal carriage, marked with the kingdom’s crest, came barreling toward us.
“Seen this before. Is the princess gonna leap out again?”
“I-I wonder…”
As I chatted with the man, the carriage came to an abrupt stop. Its door flung open, and out jumped the princess.
So far, it was identical to last time.
“Déjà vu.”
“Haha…”
But this time, her actions were different.
“I deeply apologize!!”
She slid to her knees in a dramatic bow of apology, right in front of me.
“…What exactly are you apologizing for?”
“T-that would be…”
“Breaking your promise, maybe?”
“?!”
My words made her face go pale as she looked up at me in shock.
“Seriously, you really messed up this time. Thanks to you, I had to go out of my way to fix things.”
She began trembling violently, likely recalling the incident involving her younger sister’s confinement in the tower.
“Honestly, I thought about blowing up the entire castle. But, breaking a promise isn’t worth getting that mad over. So, I settled for taking care of the culprits myself.”
“I-I’m deeply grateful for your mercy…”
“Sure. Anyway, I’m here today for a different reason.”
“I-I see…”
I tossed the bound and gagged Admos soldier I’d captured in front of the princess.
“Guh!”
The muffled groan was all he could manage, thanks to the gag. However, the armor he wore was clearly Admos’s standard issue.
Perhaps recognizing this as a member of royalty, the princess frowned deeply as she took in the sight of the soldier.
“Why is an Admos soldier here?”
“They killed the guards you stationed at the forest’s entrance and forced their way in.”
“What!?”
Only then did the princess seem to notice the corpses of her own kingdom’s soldiers lying nearby.
“This… this is outrageous!”
“Admos soldiers slaughtering Weimar soldiers within Weimar territory. That’s a pretty big deal, don’t you think?”
“O-of course it is!”
“In that case, Weimar is going to respond to Admos appropriately, right?”
“…What?”
At my words, the princess turned pale once again.
“What’s this? Your country’s soldiers were murdered by a foreign army, and you’re not going to do anything? Man, what a cold-hearted kingdom you’ve got here.”
“N-no, that’s not true!”
“Also—”
“!”
“Those guys took someone I know hostage and used them to break into the forest. Honestly, I’m furious. If your country doesn’t take action, I’ll march into Admos myself.”
“W-we understand! Weimar will handle this! So please, I beg you, remain calm!”
“That so? Then I’ll leave the cleanup to you.”
“Y-yes!”
“But just so you know, if you break your promise again… you know what’ll happen, right?”
“Y-yes, Your Excellency!”
The princess prostrated herself once more, bowing deeply at my feet.
Satisfied, I left the bodies and the witness behind and teleported back home.
Still…
Does that princess think I’m some kind of king or something?
With all this “Your Excellency” and “remain calm” nonsense, she’s being way too dramatic.
