Just another Isekai Lover~
Chapter 10: Those Who Have Touched the Dragon’s Wrath
A few days after Bennett’s last visit for Meyleen’s check-up, there was a reaction from the barrier.
Since I’ve already given passes to Ivern and the usual three who come here, it couldn’t be them. That leaves either a lost traveler—or an intruder.
“Meyleen, it looks like someone’s caught in the barrier. I’ll go check it out.”
Today, her morning sickness wasn’t as bad, and she seemed livelier than usual. She saw me off at the door.
“Be careful, okay?”
She kissed me goodbye.
“…One more time.”
“Heh, such a demanding daddy.”
She said, smiling as she stroked her still-flat belly and kissed me again.
Moments like these, when I’m with Meyleen, are the only times I really feel alive.
“Alright, I’m off.”
This time, I headed out for real, moving to where the barrier had reacted.
Following the signal… there they were. Three of them.
They’re wearing armor, but… not knights. I’ve seen Weimar’s knights a few times, and they all wear the same uniformed armor. These guys’ armor is all mismatched, like they got their gear from different shops. That makes them either adventurers or bounty hunters.
If they’re just lost adventurers, killing them on the spot would be more trouble than it’s worth. So, first things first: find out who they are.
“Hey there. What brings you out here? Lost?”
At the sound of my voice, all three spun around, visibly startled, hands moving to their sword hilts.
“Whoa, whoa. I was just checking if you were alright. How about you ease off the weapons, yeah?”
I raised my hands in front of me, waving them a little as I spoke.
But they didn’t let go of their swords.
Ah, bounty hunters, then?
“…Kenta Maya, is it?”
Just as I suspected, they called me by name. That confirms it—bounty hunters.
“That’s me.”
As I answered, they glanced around the area, seemingly disappointed.
“You live around here, right? Mind showing us to your place?”
“Why?”
What kind of idiot bounty hunter would expect me to invite them home?
One of them, who looked like the hot-headed type, scowled and barked at me.
“Hey! Quit yappin’ and just take us to your house already!”
“Yeah, but… why?”
It’s only natural I wouldn’t want to bring someone this rude to my home.
But it seemed my refusal only made him angrier.
“You little…! Don’t mess with me! Do you even know who I am? I’m Nigimarl, the strongest bounty hunter!”
“Eh? Never heard of you.”
Running Away? Well, since it’s not in Japanese, that kind of taunt won’t work on me.
By the way, the reason I can speak so fluently with people in this world is apparently due to a “summoning bonus.”
*Sigh*, how convenient.
But anyway, as I taunted him while fully aware of it, this “Nigimarl” character turned bright red, looking like his veins were about to burst.
“You… no one’s ever disrespected me like this before… I’m really pissed now… Alright, I’m gonna beat you to a pulp right here. Then, I’ll make you tell me where your house is while you’re crying and begging.”
“Oh? And what would you do once you know where it is?”
At that, Nigimarl gave a lecherous grin.
“I’d have some fun with that girl you’ve been hiding away…”
The moment I understood what he meant, I beheaded the other two beside him.
“…W-what?”
“H-hey!”
“Ahh!?”
Holding up the heads by their hair, I turned to Nigimarl, who let out a pathetic whimper.
Ignoring him, I kicked him hard in the gut, enough to hurt but not kill.
“Ughaaah!”
“Who told you about this?”
I looked down at Nigimarl, who was clutching his stomach and vomiting, and asked him.
“Ugh… ohhh…”
“Answer me. Now.”
When he didn’t respond, still doubled over, I stomped on his head, forcing his face into his own vomit.
“Who told you?”
Depending on his answer, I’d decide what I’d do next.
So, I wanted him to speak quickly.
“O-okay! I’ll tell you! Just… get your foot off me!”
“Not a chance. Speak like this.”
Why should I give him any advantage?
Ignoring his pleas, I pressed down harder on his head.
“Aghh! My head… it’s gonna split open!”
“Seems like you can still talk. Hurry up and you won’t have to worry about that.”
“I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you!!”
After a short pause, still lying on the ground, Nigimarl took out a wanted poster from his coat.
It was my wanted poster, and it looked like it was freshly issued.
I took it from him and read the contents.
As I read, I felt my blood boil.
On the poster, it said…
“WANTED: Kenta Maya, the most dangerous summoner, and his lover. A double reward will be paid for capturing the lover alive. Issued by the Weimar Kingdom.”
It was stated as follows.
Oh, I see…
So, they decided that if they couldn’t control me, they’d take Meyleen hostage to force my compliance.
And since the wanted poster only specifies “capture alive,” it implies they don’t care if she’s roughed up as long as she’s breathing.
“Sigh…”
Keeping my foot on Nigimarl’s head, I tied his hands and feet with rope and slung him over my shoulder.
“Eek! W-where are you taking me!?”
“Huh? Isn’t it obvious?”
The Weimar Kingdom issued something like this.
Apparently, they’re interested in going to war with me.
“We’re heading to Weimar’s royal castle. I don’t know the way, so you’re guiding me.”
“W-what!?”
“Oh, and if you lie about the directions, I’ll slice you to pieces on the spot. So make sure you guide me right.”
“Eek… a-alright…”
And with that, Nigimarl led the way as I set out for Weimar’s royal castle.
Oh, but first, I should let Meyleen know through telepathy.
Alright…
“Meyleen, looks like Wymar wants a war with me, so I’m heading to their castle for a bit. I’ll be back by dinner.”
“Alright. Be safe.”
Hearing Meyleen’s reply, I took off toward Weimar’s royal castle… flying through the sky.
“Aaaaahhhhhh!!!”
“Geez, shut up. This the right direction?”
“Uhhh… yes! Yes, it is! Just a little to the right!”
“Right, huh? Where?”
“Wh-whoa! So fast!! Oh man, look how tiny the road’s gotten… and we’re going really fast…”
“Hey, I asked you where.”
“Y-yes, s-sir! The road right below connects straight to the royal capital!”
Huh, suddenly he sounds like a total lackey.
Nigimarl the always-running coward, what else would I expect?
Following his directions, I sped straight down the road until a large city appeared in the distance.
“Hey, is that it?”
It was a big city, but I couldn’t be certain it was Weimar’s capital.
When I asked, Nigimarl nodded fervently.
“Y-yes! That’s it!! Amazing! Normally, it’d take a week to reach the capital, and you did it in seconds!!”
Seems like he’s finally excited, now that he’s fully in lackey mode. Nigimarl is a truly obnoxious character.
“Alright, let’s head down and go have a chat, shall we?”
I muttered, starting to descend from the sky.
“A chat?”
“Yep. Your kingdom’s absurd wanted poster has caused me a lot of trouble. So, I’m here to demand an apology and compensation.”
As we descended, Nigimarl started shrieking again.
“W-what!? Are you insane!? That’s practically picking a fight with the royal family!!”
What’s this idiot talking about?
“It’s not a fight.”
Because what I’m about to start isn’t just a mere conflict…
“It’s a war.”
“Aaaahhhhhh!!”
As we descended, Nigimarl kept screaming at the top of his lungs.
