Chapter 47: After the battle (Part one)

The dormant volcano, revived by the power of Asval, had fallen asleep once again, and all the lava flows and flames that had overflowed had died down.

In the Baldor Mountains, which had changed dramatically before and after the turmoil, a man and a woman were on their way down the mountain.

“…… here.”

Fiona, who had been asleep for some time, woke up.

She didn’t have much memory left after the defeat of Asval. She remembered that she had accomplished that with Ren’s help, but she had no memory of herself being able to do anything after that.

But as soon as she woke up, she was immediately baffled.

For she found herself being carried on Ren’s back down the snowy road.

“Re, Re….. Ren-sama!”

“Good morning. I’m sorry —- I don’t know what’s out there and I figured I’d better get down the mountain as soon as possible.”

Apparently, she fainted immediately after he defeated Asval.

Fiona noticed this and her cheeks rose in pity and embarrassment.

Of course, she immediately said she would walk on her own feet, but Ren said that Fiona’s ankle had swollen up a lot.

So Ren said he would continue this way, but Fiona said, “Oh, it’s all right! Even you are having a hard time…!” Ren replied, “At least, when we get to a more gentle road,” as if he had no choice.

So in the end, we continued on our way.

As Fiona’s tension eased slightly, she suddenly felt a lightness in her body that she had never felt before.

“As I thought, it’s getting less…”

“Fiona?”

“Oh, um…… the black power that should have been in my body, there’s only a little bit of it left.”

“…… yeah?”

Fiona took a deep breath and then —-

“I mean the power that I was born with— the skill of being a black priestess.”

It was abrupt.

Fiona’s skill, which Ren had been concerned about and had been wondering how to ask about, was revealed to him by her own mouth.

“I’m sorry I kept it a secret for so long— because it wasn’t a power I wasn’t comfortable talking about.”

But she couldn’t bring herself to keep it a secret.

If she thought that this power had led to Asval’s resurrection and involved Ren, she wouldn’t remain silent, no matter how much her father tried to stop her.

“Are you sure you should be telling me?”

Fiona nodded and continued.

“Did you know about the existence of the skill of the Black Priestess, Ren-sama?”

“I’m sorry. I’d never heard of it before.”

“I’ll explain to you what it is.”

She said that the Black Priestess is like a saint for demons.

It also seems that some of those who were in the service of the Demon King had such skills, and the Marquis Ignat kept this information a secret. This is also the reason why he told Fiona not to tell anyone.

“My father was concerned about my future. He‘s such a man that even if I had the skills of a black priestess, his own position wouldn’t be shaken.”

“Ah…… I can imagine that somehow.”

The reason is that it’s hard for the Marquis Ignat to imagine that his daughter’s disturbing skills would be a handicap for him.

After all, he’s the Marquis.

That said, Ren, too, only thinks in reference to his strengths in his gaming days.

What about Fiona instead, it’s easy to imagine her being scorned.

In Leomel, the Seven Heroes are a big part of the story, so it’s not surprising that it will be so, given the Black Priestess’s past. It seems that Marquis Ignat thought it best to keep it a secret so that his daughter wouldn’t have to face such a situation.

“So, you say that the power of the Black Priestess is weakening?”

“No, no! It’s not that her power seems to be weakening! But somehow, some of the power of the Black Priestess that was in my body, seems to have mysteriously gone away…..”

It’s an explanation that I can’t seem to come to terms with, but apparently Fiona herself doesn’t understand it very well either.

Ren continues to think while twisting his head.

“I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that you exhibited necromancy-like powers against Asval.”

“I don’t think so. The black priestess doesn’t have the power to bring dead monsters back to life as the undead.”

The one thing they have is magic power to empower monsters, and in addition to several effects that greatly increase their own magical aptitude, they’re also born with a vast amount of magical power.

But Fiona says she feels that the first magic power is gone.

(But Fiona-sama’s presence was sensed from a rather early stage, so I guess it can’t be equated with an ordinary monster.)

This is just Ren’s prediction.

He thought that Asval’s strength, which separated him from other monsters, might have caused the Black Priestess’ magic power to “empower monsters” to work this time, and Asval might have revived as an undead by chance.

It wasn’t so strange to think this way, considering Asval’s so incomplete resurrection.

(Which means, after all, that It was —-)

Asval, the flame sword.

The space that Ren wandered into just before he exercised that power and the jet-black long sword that was in that place, if you think of them as being influenced by Fiona, this also fits well.

Although the situation is different, it’s somewhat similar to the dazzling magic sword influenced by Licia’s magic power.

But in Licia’s case, she has magic power in her body.

“I’d like to ask you something that I can’t get my finger on, but there’s no way that you have a magic stone in your body, is there?”

“Yes…. there’s no such thing, but is there something wrong suddenly?”

“No, there’s something I heard that even I can’t understand myself.”

Fiona scowled at Ren’s back and immediately smiled mildly.

Ren, on the other hand, nodded in agreement.

(Licia-sama has a magic stone in her body, and she manifested a magic sword to me with its power. But Fiona’s is not like that.)

In Fiona’s case, the power of the black priestess made manifest the power that was in Ren’s body from the beginning….. and this was the impression I had. If some of her power has gone out because she shared it with Ren, then I think that explains a lot.

In the end, so many things were uncertain.

“…… will I now be targeted by those Demon cults?”

“Oh, I don’t think so.”

That’s all I could say clearly.

“Why do you say so?”

“I’m not saying there is zero possibility, of course, but Maidas and Kai, those two didn’t know about the power of the black priestess that you possessed. If they had known —- they would have been plotting to revive Asval from the beginning.”

But they didn’t. Moreover, the fact that those two didn’t understand the situation proves that the Asval situation was unexpected, even for them.

Their main goal was to get Marquis Ignat to secede from the empire, so they were probably just trying to achieve that goal.

I can imagine that the reason why the action was taken in a different way from the game was because, unlike in the game, Fiona was alive.

“If anything, they would have realized that they couldn’t be set up in a situation like this, and it’s no wonder that it’s hard for them to know that they’d get caught.”

This time, Marquis Ignat was caught in the gap, but it’s hard to believe that he’ll be set up in the same way the next time.

The reason is that this attempt wouldn’t have been possible except under the very special circumstances of taking the entrance exam for the Imperial Academy of Military Science.

…… In addition, it would seem that Fiona’s power no longer attracts the attention of the Demon King’s Cult.

The reason is that if the black priestess’s power to affect monsters has gone out of existence, it’s unlikely that they would try to use it as a reason to take control of her even if they did learn of Fiona’s power.

However, her value as the daughter of Marquis Ignat remains the same, so we should be more vigilant than ever about everything.

(Hmmm….. I knew it. I was the cause of all these.)

The Black Priestess gave some of her power to Ren in connection with the summoning of the magic sword.

But that doesn’t mean he can wander into that world, and as a matter of fact, Ren looked at the bracelet crystal to get to this point, but the name of the flaming sword, Asval, wasn’t there. It had reverted back to the original flame demon sword, and the mysterious name indicating the jet-black long sword was also gone.

It was the same situation as when it was influenced by Licia.

In other words, in order to manifest those powers again, It would need to receive some kind of powers from Fiona again—- Ren was sure of it.

It was as if the black priestess had shown her allegiance to Ren…… so she had lost some of her power.

—- Soon, a loud sound reached their ears.
