Chapter 58: Kyle’s thoughts
“So what the hell do you want? We’re alone now Cain-san.”
I was summoned by the self-proclaimed Cain and taken out to a side road in a deserted mine shaft. There are many such side roads, and some of them seem to be dug quite deep into the mine.
“No way. I didn’t think you’d actually follow me…..”
Somehow I knew that the self-proclaimed Cain in front of me was smiling self-deprecatingly through his mask. Then he takes off the mask.
He has the same golden hair as me and a neat face that is all too familiar. His true identity was Kyle Vermillion, as I had guessed. But there are some things that are different from before. The face is still painfully burned, and the left arm cut by Vigna is, of course, no longer there.
But what has changed the most is his expression. The man who always had a sarcastic smile on his face is now staring at me with an indescribable face.
Yes, his face looks apologetic.
“As expected. I’m not surprised and not angry, after all. I thought you were going to yell at me out of the blue.”

“Don’t get me wrong. Because of you, Asgard suffered a lot of damage. I’d like to punch you in the face, but that’s not important right now. What are you doing in Dwell?”
I hold my hand on the gun in my pocket as I speak, ready to respond immediately if Kyle uses magic on me. I know Kyle has no hostile intentions toward me as long as Galatea, who is secretly spying on us, doesn’t break in.
“Well, where do I start? I was almost killed when you guys turned on me, and an adventurer saved me.”
“Yeah, I know, that dragon tamer. Is he here too?”
I hate him as much as I hate Kyle. I’d have to say something sarcastic to make myself feel better. No, it still wouldn’t make me feel better.
“He’s probably off somewhere right now, taming powerful dragons. This is where he’s from, and he used to be an adventurer to earn money to help the dwarves survive. So when I lost the war and had nowhere else to go, he brought me here.”
“You said you had nowhere else to go. You should have just gone back to King’s Landing. You still have a lot of men under your command, don’t you?”
“That would have been difficult. Geor and I, we aren’t good friends, but rather, we are trying to kick one of us down to become the king. Do you think Georg would let me go, covered with scars and having made a big mistake? If I were him, I wouldn’t let him get away with it! I’ll pretend that you killed him. Then you, Grace will be my only rival for the throne.”
Kyle’s lips twisted into a self-deprecating smile. It’s true that there is no possibility that Georg wouldn’t secretly try to kill this guy after learning of Kyle’s defeat. No, he will. And that bastard of a father wouldn’t even help him, judging it to be part of a battle worthy of either of them as king.
There may be people who adore Kyle, like the maids in the castle, but they’re not powerful enough to stand up to the headstrong Georg.
“Well, it doesn’t matter. I called you here for one reason. Please try and listen to my request.”

“……It’s too late to ask for forgiveness now.”
I coldly dismissed Kyle’s words. It’s true that this guy may no longer be a threat to us. But it doesn’t matter. I can’t forgive him for continuing to mock me, but most of all, I can’t forgive him for attacking Asgard.
But his request was something I hadn’t expected.
“I will listen to any order you give me and if you want me to eat dirt like this, I’ll eat it. If you want me to wear a maid’s uniform, I’ll gladly wear it! So will you please keep Dwell and Ruby smiling? Grace, unlike me, you found a way to save them, didn’t you? Then do me this favor.”
Kyle puts his palms to the ground, forehead to the ground, and pleads with me. I can’t believe that prideful Kyle would behave like this to me, the man he made such a fool of.
“Why? Until now, you’ve only thought about using Ruby, right? And now…..”
“When I was hungry, she gave me some bread and asked me nicely if I was okay. She gave me food even though I was poor. To me, who lost…..”
“It was dad and Georg who made Dwell poor!!!! And you did the same thing in other countries!”
“Oh, yes, I was trash. I did a lot of things because I wanted to be recognized by our father, because I wanted to show my power, you know. I didn’t even realize it. I didn’t realize what would happen to the people who were living in those countries!”
Kyle’s face contorts at my words. I don’t understand the expression on his face. Because to me, Kyle was evil. He was a complete asshole of a brother who banished me and always made fun of the world.

And yet, this guy wants me to protect Dwell. He desperately pleads with me to protect Dwell, just like Ein and Gimli.
“Hey, Grace, Cain. Are you lost?”
“Master, are you all right?”
I breathed a sigh of relief at the intrusion. I honestly didn’t know what to do. While looking sides at Kyle, I headed back to the dwarves.
