Chapter 125: Marching with Unwanted Company

To quell the rebellion of Marquis Berlió Aiger, Prince Richard Aiwood led an army of 100,000 soldiers southeast from the capital. According to reports from spies sent ahead, the Marquis’ territory was already filled with nobles of the Queen Dowager’s faction, and their forces exceeded 50,000 soldiers.

“I just heard from one of the knights… It seems Marquis Aiger has no intention of holding out in a fortress. Instead, he’s set up a position in a basin on the capital side of his territory, ready to meet us head-on.”

 Marching into enemy territory.

Even though Rest hadn’t asked, “she” provided the information.

“Normally, the smaller force would fortify themselves, right? But did you know? A siege defense only works if you have reinforcements coming. Without them, a siege is just delaying defeat with no chance of victory. Marquis Aiger seems to understand that.”

“…I see.”

Rest replied.

“In open fields, the larger royal army would have the advantage. But since they’ve already fortified their position and we have to enter enemy territory, we can’t underestimate them. Considering their numbers are still growing and they have the home-field advantage, we shouldn’t take this war lightly.”

“… Okay, I understand. But… can I ask you something?”

“What is it? I’ll answer anything I know.”

“Why are you here… Yuri?”

Rest Clover, riding uncomfortably on a horse, was accompanied by Yuri Catreya, who had casually come up beside him. She was a classmate at the academy and the daughter of the Knight Commander, Marquis Catreya.

“Did you… follow us? You didn’t leave without telling Viola and Primula, did you?”

“Don’t worry. I left a note. ‘Just off to take the enemy general’s head,’ it said,”

Yuri said nonchalantly.

“Wouldn’t that just make them worry more?”

Yuri had been staying at the townhouse of Marquis Rosemary since the academy closed. Rest could easily imagine Viola and Primula being worried sick.

“And you intend to participate in the war?”

“Of course. That’s why I’m here.”

Yuri replied, puffing out her chest proudly. Her large bosom, clad in light armor for women, stood out.

“We learn martial arts and magic at the academy to face the kingdom’s crises, right? Isn’t today exactly the moment for that? How could we not use our trained bodies and skills now?”

“Well… you have a point.”

Rest admitted.

“Don’t get me wrong. I’m not criticizing those who didn’t come to the battlefield. Everyone has their role and fight suited to their birth and position. For instance, Viola and Primula staying home to protect the place you’re returning to is their fight. Thinking ‘I’m better because I’m on the battlefield’ is nonsense,”

“So, you’re saying coming here is your fight?”

“Exactly. I have no title, no rank, and nothing to protect. In times like this, shouldn’t I be the one to fight desperately?”

Rest tried to find a reason to send Yuri back to the capital, but he couldn’t find any suitable words. Yuri Catreya operated on a completely different wavelength than Rest and the Rosemary sisters. Once she decided on something, nothing could change her mind.

“Um… Excuse me, may I say something?”

Dible, who had been silently standing by, raised his hand.

“The deputy commander of the kingdom’s army is supposed to be the Knight Commander, Marquis Catreya. Are you prepared to face your father?”

“Oh…”

Rest cheered quietly. He remembered that Yuri had left home after a fight with her father, enrolling in the academy. Mentioning her father might persuade her to go back.

“As expected of Dible-sensei… you see things differently!”

“Indeed, my father is here.”

Yuri’s expression tensed briefly, then brightened.

“Well, it is what it is. If I see him, I’ll just deal with it!”

“Can you really brush it off that easily?”

Dible asked, perplexed.

“Didn’t you avoid the Monster Hunt Festival because your father was coming as a guest?”

Rest added. Yuri, who tended to be quite the musclehead, had skipped the festival to avoid her father.

“I… hate broccoli.”

Yuri stated.

“Huh?”

Rest and Dible were taken aback.

“Primula scolded me for my picky eating since I came to the Rosemary mansion. After a lot of practice, I can now eat broccoli.”

Yuri explained, leaving Rest and Dible speechless.

Dislikes are not good. She must mean that just as she overcame her dislike for broccoli, she also needs to overcome her aversion to her father.

“Are you really comparing your father to broccoli?”

“Don’t worry. I’ll act as a volunteer soldier. I won’t cause any trouble for Marquis Rosemary, so you don’t need to be concerned.”

“In fact, I’d feel more at ease if you stayed within my sight.”

“Let’s move freely on the battlefield. If I can manage to take down the enemy general, I might get knighted like you did!”

Yuri exclaimed.

“……”

“Oh! If that happens, I could resolve my issues with my father. If I establish a new house and become independent, I won’t have to deal with him anymore. Yes!”

“…Fine, do whatever you want.”

Rest resigned himself to letting her do as she pleased, realizing that arguing was pointless.

“Just, please, take care of yourself… If you die, Viola and Primula will be devastated.”

“Hmm? Wouldn’t you be sad if I died, Rest?”

“Of course I’d be sad… You’re an important friend.”

“I see… Yes, that’s right!”

Yuri beamed at him with a friendly smile, resembling a big, affectionate dog.

“In that case, I’ll do my best to survive! Let’s see who can achieve the most glory!”

“……”

Do whatever you want, Rest thought again, silently repeating it to himself.
