Chapter 5: The Skill-Stealing ‘Steal’

For now, I should check out the current strength and see what I can do. Also, I need to confirm if I can use the skills Lloyd stole with ‘Steal’ in the past.

With these thoughts in mind, I ventured deeper into the forest.

As I moved further into the forest, I heard rustling from the underbrush, so I drew my sword and pointed its tip towards the sound.

A moment later, a deer-like monster emerged from the underbrush. It was about the size of a deer you’d find in Nara Park.

“Let’s start by fighting with this one.” I 

The monster, noticing my drawn sword, hurriedly turned its back to escape. This was the perfect opportunity.

Without hesitation, I chose a skill from the ones I had acquired with ‘Steal.’

My body moved smoothly, without needing to think, as if I had used this skill many times before.

“Lightning Slash!”

Using the skill, a lightning-charged slash shot out from the tip of my sword.

Swoosh!

“Peeeeeeeeeeesssssss!!!”

The monster, hit by the ‘Lightning Slash,’ let out a scream before collapsing to the ground.

It seemed that while the skill wasn’t particularly large-scale, it was quite fast.

It was fairly usable.

“So, I can use the skills acquired with ‘Steal’ after all.” 

I murmured while sheathing my sword, looking at the fallen monster.

Next, I needed to dismantle the monster.

Though I had never dismantled a deer before, the method for dismantling seemed to come naturally to me.

It appeared that if Lloyd knew something, my body would instinctively perform it.

I took out my dismantling knife and crouched beside the monster.

Just as I was about to start draining the blood with the knife, I paused.

“…What happens if I use ‘Steal’ on a monster?”

Even though it’s a useful ability, I felt some resistance to taking skills from humans who have worked hard for them.

However, since I have this unique skill, I felt a desire to use it.

In that case, maybe I should try stealing a monster’s skill?

…Wait, can I even steal skills from monsters?

“Well, there’s only one way to find out.”

I focused my palm on the fallen monster and gathered strength in my arm.

“Steal.”

When I used ‘Steal,’ my palm briefly glowed.

Was it successful?

As I wondered, a status display screen suddenly appeared before me.

It showed the following text:

Successful Theft via ‘Steal’

Skill: Power Thrust (Magic)

“Oh, so I can steal skills from monsters too… Hmm? Power Thrust (Magic)? What’s (Magic) supposed to mean?”

Faced with this unfamiliar notation, I could only tilt my head in confusion.
