Chapter 30: Mock Battle Ends

“Fire Enchantment”

Kang!

When our swords collided, I was going to use fire enchantment to blow Shana away and make her lose her stance. But she wobbled a bit, quickly regained her stance, and became invisible. However, Shana’s pace was becoming more and more predictable. In the past, it would have been difficult to even prevent Shana’s attacks without wind enchantments. The effect of the title “Ishin-denshin” has made it easier to read my opponent’s actions. However, this alone is not enough to decide the match. Since I’m using enchantments, I can’t afford to lose.

“Thunder Enchant …”

“That’s it!!” (Knight captain)

“What!?”

“It wasn’t settled even after 30 minutes, so it’s a draw.”

“Huh …”

If I had decided to use the Thunder Enchantment a little earlier, I might have won.

“… How was I?”

“You were much stronger than before.”

“Good…”

Shana was surprisingly strong. When we faced the orc, I would have beaten Shana without using Thunder Enchantment. I can’t afford to be lazy.

“… You’ll be an adventurer when you enter the school, right?”

“I plan to be”

“Sophia with you?”

“Maybe”

No, I’m sure we’ll be together. I don’t know what would happen if I were the only one.

“… There are times when just two people aren’t enough, right?”

“Hmm?”

The first thing I thought of is that if  Sophie and I formed a party. I would be the vanguard and Sophie the rearguard. With my abilities, I can attack in the vanguard while attracting enemies, so I won’t need a shield. And since Sophie can use recovery magic, we wouldn’t need a healer.

“We’ll need someone who can detect traps and monsters. The current Sophia and I can’t do that. And even if we could, it would be difficult to do so in the middle of battle. We need someone who can protect himself at least and can monitor the battle situation. If I could, I would ask him to be the vanguard, so I could join the middle guard. I’d like to have someone like that in my party at some point.”

“I can do all that”

“eh?”

“I’ve also acquired sign detection, magic detection, and trap removal. And if I hide in secret, I can protect myself. And I can support you like when we faced the orc.”

If she says so much, I already know what she’s trying to say.

“Well? Do you need me?”

“Shana is needed for my party”

When I said that, Shana’s face was expressionless, but she looked happy and a little disappointed. Hmm? Disappointed?

“Sorry …”

Then she took something out from her pocket.

“When you said ‘I need Shana’, I was going to play this to my father and make it a fact…”

“You were recording this!?”

Scary!!! I can’t let my guard down! What happened to the word party?

“But I did record you asking me to a party, so if you become an adventurer on your own with just the two of you, I’ll process this, okay?”

“I’ll invite you properly …”

I don’t want to ask how she’ll process it. Or rather, it shouldn’t be easy to process …

“I’ll do my best to put a chain around your neck this time.”

“Do your best in something different …”

Finally, leaving a joke, Shana went away. She’s joking, right? She has to be.

“Hah …”

I turned to the back and sighed. Someone behind me was in a bad mood. It seems she doesn’t like the fact that I was talking to Shana. I’m sure she couldn’t get in because of the mock battle…and I’ll have to tell her I’m inviting Shana to the party…I’ll do my best!…

    1. I like this but it’s about 60/40. I realize the yandere thing is a story form but this poor MC. The sister is like I must spend every waking moment with you. No no you mustn’t. Does she stare under the door like a cat when he uses the restroom.

  1. So for a few chapters now, I’ve been thinking about the opening premise.

All of those skills that the Goddess wouldn’t let him take. Either because “everyone already took them” or “too popular” or “boring” or… well, yeah.

I can’t help but wonder who the person… or perhaps, two people…. are, that took those skills most recently. Surely, the Goddess didn’t make stuff up about the skills, right?

I can’t help but think that there might have been some plan dictated to the Goddess. Perhaps Zeros was supposed to end up pathetic, weak and helpless… the perfect pet … er… husband?

His chosen skill was something that the Goddess hadn’t heard of before though (he had to explain to the Goddess, how the skill worked) so perhaps… it is outside of the plans entirely.

Maybe I’m overthinking things. Either way, it’s fun to theorise about stories. (although inevitably I need to stop posting about it because I get paranoid I’ll accidentally spoil something with my semi-random guessing)
