Chapter 347: Sending Fabienne Off
When parting with the royal capital group, the next farewell is with Fabienne. Spring is already upon us. She cannot stay forever at the Heine Frontier Count’s Estate.
The day after Cain-niisan and the others departed, Fabienne also had to return to her family, the Baron Amber family.
“Thank you for everything during the winter.”
Fabienne deeply bowed in front of the Heine Frontier Count’s House, but my father stopped her.
“No, it was us who should be thanking you. Thank you.”
“Yes, we’ve gained a daughter, and we’ve been able to enjoy ourselves.”
At my parents’ words, Fabienne’s eyes welled up with tears. It’s not a permanent farewell, though. In fact, starting tomorrow, she will come here every day. The only time it will feel lonely is at night.
“Thank you, Miss Fabienne. Thanks to you, we’ve been able to get the Heine Trading Company on track. I would appreciate it if you could continue to lend us your support.”
“Of course. I will assist along with Julius-sama.”
“Is it true that you’re really leaving, big sister?”
“Rosalia, don’t trouble Miss Fabienne.”
Alex-niisan chided Rosalia, but his eyes were already filled with tears.
I did tell them that she would be coming again tomorrow, but the atmosphere here is probably making everyone feel melancholy.
“Well then, let’s go, Miss Fabienne.”
“Yes.”
“Kyuu.”
“Mira will stay here.”
“Kyuu!”
Mira gave her usual headbutt, but we were just sending Fabienne back home. I planned to return as soon as I had escorted her. There’s no need to feel too lonely. Rosalia also looks uneasy.
“I’ll return right away after I escort Miss Fabienne.”
“That seems best. If more people leave, it might make them anxious.”
Seeing Rosalia and Mira, my father smiled wryly. Normally, this wouldn’t happen, but since there were more people in the house this year, maybe it will feel even lonelier.
After petting Mira for a while, we set off.
The snow in the territory capital had completely melted. Perhaps because of this, the villagers had started going outside as well. People were coming and going along the streets, as if they were eagerly awaiting spring.
When we arrived at the Baron Amber House, as usual, the couple was waiting in front of the mansion’s door.
“Sorry for the delay.”
“Not at all. It seems we were just a little too early to go outside.”
“Welcome home, Fabienne.”
The couple warmly welcomed her. In the meantime, the servants were carrying the luggage from the carriage. The amount of luggage was slightly more than when we came, mostly consisting of products sold by the Heine Trading Company.
Fabienne seemed to like them, and she was using them.
After that, we were guided to the salon to discuss the future. It seemed that he had received a letter from my father, and he was constantly apologizing.
“I’m sorry for asking for such a favor.”
“You don’t need to apologize. We are the ones who are imposing. I am the one who should apologize.”
The women watched us, bowing to each other, with complicated expressions. They seemed to be in a position where they couldn’t take sides.
“As I mentioned in the letter, I will come to pick up Miss Fabienne every day.”
“Is that really alright? It will require quite a bit of effort… It’s fine to send her there instead.”
“No, it is us who would like to have Miss Fabienne’s help. It is only natural to pick her up and drop her off. Besides, she seems to be eager to do it herself.”
“She does?”
It seems that the letter from my father did not explain the detailed method of pick-up and drop-off. That makes sense, since Mira has only recently grown so large. Perhaps I should have brought Mira here and shown them once.
“We will pick her up and drop her off on the back of Saint Dragon Mira.”
“…”
The Baron Amber couple froze.
After that, Fabienne and I had to explain things to the couple. We talked about how we had already enjoyed walking in the air many times while riding on Mira’s back, and it seemed that they had finally resigned themselves to it. …Did I do something wrong?
“To go that far for us, what can we possibly say in thanks?”
Baron Amber looked terribly troubled. Maybe it would have been better to send her in a carriage after all. But I couldn’t just disregard Mira’s good intentions. After all, Mira must have grown larger because she wanted to be of help to me.
“If you want to thank anyone, please thank Mira. I’m sure she will be happy. Mira also wants to be praised by you both when she comes here.”
“Oh, of course, of course.”
The Baron Amber couple seemed ready to cry at any moment. The Saint Dragon legend—truly, it seemed like Mira was being regarded as some kind of divine being.
I think they’ve finally come to terms with it. From now on, I’ll need their cooperation every day for pick-ups and drop-offs.
After delivering Fabienne and confirming the future plans, I left the Baron Amber House.
On the return carriage, I was, of course, alone. The carriage felt much larger than usual. It seems that, like me, I’m feeling lonely because Fabienne isn’t here.
After all, she’s an important fiancée. I suppose it’s only natural. It’s lonely. I really should have brought Mira with me.
