Chapter 321: Heine Frontier Count Family Moves into Action
The next day, everyone promptly began to take action. Cain-niisan and my sister-in-law Mika headed to the knight order early in the morning. My sister-in-law Daniella planned to formalize yesterday’s “substitute matter” into official documents and send them to the royal capital before the snow gets too deep.
Teaching the craftsmen how to make the products would only start once the trading company’s building was organized. This meant I had a few days of leeway. During that time, I wanted to visit Lady Fabienne.
Returning to my room, I quickly wrote a letter. It would be a sudden visit, but it should be fine as long as I mention that the trading company is about to launch.
After handing the finished letter to a servant, I headed to the workshop. It seemed that Rosalia had dance practice in the morning, and Mira was joining her, so the workshop was empty.
“It’s a bit too quiet, but maybe this will help me get some work done. I think I’ll draft a procedural guide. Could you bring me some paper?”
“I’ll prepare it right away.”
If I wrote down the steps, they’d be able to handle things even when Rosalia or I weren’t around. If the craftsmen devised a more efficient method, it could be incorporated into the guide.
The necessary guides would be… for the washing machine, dishwasher, glass pen, magic stone heater, pencil, and their accessories. Plus, the liquid glue. Quite a lot, actually. In hindsight, I should’ve been making these diligently all along. I’ll do so from now on.
While wrestling with the paper, it turned noon, and I attended afternoon classes immediately afterward. Today’s lesson was packed to make up for the missed time, and even Nero was struggling.
My participation in the investigation team had burdened Nero, so I need to be more careful.
Before dinner, a servant brought me a letter. The sender was Lady Fabienne. It seemed she responded as soon as my letter reached her. How considerate.
Upon reading the contents, she said tomorrow would be fine. It’s short notice, but if I miss this chance, the next one might not come until the snow melts. I have no choice but to go.
To report this, I headed to the study, where I found Father and my Alex-niisan.
“Excuse me. Is there a problem?”
“No, everything’s going smoothly. Is something the matter?”
Father raised one eyebrow as he asked. Really? They seemed to be whispering about something. With Alex-niisan’s usual poker face, it was impossible to tell. I was a bit curious.
“I plan to visit Lady Fabienne’s home tomorrow, so I came to ask for permission.”
“I see. You’ve already informed the other party, right?”
“Of course.”
He gave a big nod at my response, and I thought I saw the slightest hint of a smile on his lips. Or maybe it was just my imagination?
“If that’s the case, then it’s fine. By the way, isn’t Lady Fabienne able to make magical potions as well?”
“Yes, that’s right. Lady Fabienne is the one who created the ‘potion effective for lung disease’ that circulates in the territory.”
Father nodded repeatedly. I had a strange feeling. What was he thinking? Father and my Alex-niisan exchanged significant glances. Could it be…?
“Actually, I was thinking of putting the hot cookies up for sale.”
“They’ve received great feedback from the knights. And it’s not just them; the servants are also big fans.”
“So you’ve been giving them to people to try…?”
“I wanted a wider range of opinions.”
My brother looked slightly embarrassed. It seemed he was quite taken with the hot cookies. After all, eating one allows you to work comfortably even in places without heating.
I see. If the trading company expands its operations, there will be more chances to negotiate product sales and check on store conditions, which means more travel. And yes, it’s cold during travel. This applies not only to Alex-niisan but also to sister-in-law Daniella.
This is sister-in-law Daniella’s first winter in the Margrave of Heine’s domain. She’ll likely find it freezing. The same goes for sister-in-law Mika. And for the employees, too. So, producing hot cookies seems essential.
“Should I ask Lady Fabienne if she could work for the trading company?”
“Could you? We’ll formally present the terms of employment to Baron Amber.”
“Understood.”
Ah, I might have created a bit of a mess. I might end up placing an unexpected burden on Lady Fabienne. I’ll need to apologize for this during tomorrow’s visit.
“Oh, and one more thing.”
“Is there something else?”
“Yes. I’ve proposed Lady Fabienne as a potential fiancée for you to Baron Amber. I received a letter of approval, so you might as well greet them tomorrow.”
“U-Understood.”
I couldn’t exactly say I already knew, so the atmosphere turned awkward. Not exactly romantic. As the three of us continued discussing, it became time for dinner.
“Julius-niisan, did you make something new while I was away?”
Rosalia, seated beside me, puffed her cheeks a little as she looked at me. It seemed that she had been busy all day and hadn’t had time to retreat to the workshop.
At this rate, Mother might scold you for making that face.
“I haven’t made anything new. If anything, I’ve been working on creating a procedural manual. It’s not finished yet, but I’ll show it to you later, Rosalia, and I’d like to hear your thoughts.”
“Understood!”
Rosalia’s face lit up with a smile, clearly happy to be relied upon. She began eating dinner in a cheerful mood.
At the dinner table, I mentioned that I’d be visiting Lady Fabienne in the morning, and Mira immediately clung to me. We had been apart all day, and she seemed desperate at the thought of being separated again tomorrow.
What should I do? Maybe I should take Mira with me. I’m sure Lady Fabienne would be pleased, and this way, Mira wouldn’t feel lonely. Two birds with one stone.
When I suggested it, Mira headbutted me with incredible enthusiasm. Her unusual way of showing affection, as always.
